Streaking Jenni Moreese set for carnival spotlight

27 April 2026

By Jordan Gerrans

Toowoomba winning machine Jenni Moreese will put her four-run streak on the line when she heads to Eagle Farm on the opening day of the Queensland Racing Carnival on Saturday.

The daughter of Maurice has been an absolute revelation in recent times for the son-and-mother training team of Corey and Kylie Geran.

About five months ago, Jenni Moreese was battling away in Benchmark races at Warwick and Ballina on the country and provincial circuit.

She has quickly climbed the ladder and won four straight races, with three of those being on a Saturday in town.

The five-year-old mare has been to the races on 13 occasions since early October, so the stable does not have long carnival plans for her in 2026, but they are hopeful of pinching another victory before she heads to the paddock.

“I don’t really have a path in mind specifically for Jenni Moreese as she has been in work quite a while,” co-trainer Corey Geran said.

“She continues to come along well.

“So, we'll just take her run by run. Jenni Moreese and Let'sfacethemusic are probably the main two from our stable for the carnival this year.

“We have a few exciting ones at the moment.

“Jenni Moreese is stringing together Saturday wins now and Let'sfacethemusic won in Brisbane on a Wednesday and is a potential winter carnival horse.”

Jenni Moreese has found her sweet spot at Eagle Farm over the middle-distance trip.

She began her four-run spree at the Sunshine Coast over 1800 metres in late February before adding three more at Brisbane’s headquarters of racing over a similar trip in recent weeks.

Her latest triumph was in the middle of April with apprentice hoop Corey Sutherland in the saddle over 1805 metres in a Class 6 Handicap.

Sutherland has been in the saddle on all four occasions since her winning run commenced.

She steps out in the Benchmark 90 Handicap over 1825 metres on Saturday.

“She is a credit to jockey Corey, my team, Grant Goodrum and his ownership team in this horse,” co-trainer Corey Geran said.

“To win three city races in a row, I think is a pretty good effort for any horse, let alone the type of horse she is.

“But, she's gone to another level. We don’t know where her ceiling is yet but while they keep putting these races on for her, we will keep coming down.

“I think she has better things in store.”

The 22-year-old Sutherland has developed a close affinity with Jenni Moreese and understands the way she needs to be ridden to run at her best.

The apprentice hoop has on several occasions taken her wide before the home turn at Eagle Farm to put her into the race and she has skipped away to score.

Co-trainer Corey Geran says she can be a ‘firey’ customer, so he is happy to let Sutherland keep rolling along with the tactics seeing as they are providing the results.

Jenni Moreese was tried over 2000 metres and beyond earlier in her career, but the Darling Downs barn have found her sweet spot around 1800 metres.

Also in the nominations for Saturday’s city races are fellow Geran-prepared runners Our Magnus (Benchmark 85 Handicap over 1400 metres) and Grey Northern (Benchmark 78 Handicap over 2200 metres).

“Our Magnus, he will go through to some Listed races hopefully now over the carnival,” Corey Geran said.

“Our Magnus has been an old war horse for us for a very long time and he'll continue to have a good campaign this season.”

The 30-year-old Corey likes the prospects of his team ahead of the carnival of 2026.

“We are looking forward to the carnival, Connecticut is a horse that is on the way back,” he said.

“We have got a good few mix of stayers and sprinters that we've got coming through.

“We also have some nice ones that we haven't tried yet that are still here waiting. We've got a horse that has just come up from Sydney called Mirra Impact and a couple of other horses there.

“We have a lot of two-year-olds that we haven't raced just yet, as well. So, we have a lot of exciting ones to come through.

“Hopefully some of them start to put their hand up soon but there's a few there that we're looking forward to.”
