Form Analysis: Albion Park May 16

16 May 2026

RACE ONE

An absolute cracking Band 5 event to kick off the card with five last start winners lining up. One of those is MEGS BOY (8) which will be chasing five on the bounce after claiming a 2m victory in a qualifier last time out. He will need a slice of luck from this gate but has the speed to arrive.

MAJOR CRUNCH (1)
had the speed to take control here last week and from the front was able to fend off the challengers and post a 5m margin. Bad gates had hampered his performances in the previous two starts and with the speed to control his position, he will throw it down in this.

REDS ABLAZE (9)
is two from three this season after dictating in a mare’s qualifier here last week highlighted by a 26.9 closing panel. If they overdo it in front, she can descend late.

BRAVENTREACHEROUS (5)
is a slick beginner that can fire some early bullets from this gate. Leading before releasing from gate 3 last start and then arriving up the lane, he can feature here.

SELECTIONS: MEGS BOY (8), MAJOR CRUNCH (1), REDS ABLAZE (9), BRAVENTREACHEROUS (5)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 1-5-8-9

RACE TWO

After two impressive victories including one at this trip, SALLY BIGTIME (6) will chase the threepeat. This will be the next step up after successive wins against her own sex, but both wins suggest that she is up to the task. Overcoming this same gate in both, the tempo will help.

TINDER SURPRISE (3)
made full use of the gate to fire off the arm, take control and dictate to a 2m victory at this trip two starts back. Buried from the second line last start and luckless when 4m from the winner FRENCH FRIES, he can flash some early hustle to issue the challenge.

CHARGE AHEAD (8)
was chasing a hat-trick here two starts back when asked to sit parked from gate 5 but fading over the closing stages. With a soft map from this gate, he can chime in.

BUDDY PERFECT (4)
faced a wide gate last start, was restrained to the rear before making some late metres in a sectionally strong performance. Settling closer will assist his podium claims.

SELECTIONS:
SALLY BIGTIME (6), TINDER SURPRISE (3), CHARGE AHEAD (8), BUDDY PERFECT (4)
SUGGESTED BET:
SALLY BIGTIME (6) to win

RACE THREE

Taking benefit from his return to the track last week, BIRKIRKARA (4) moves to the front line after starting from gate 10 when resuming. Producing some solid sectional numbers in the 3m deficit, he finds the right set up to reach a neat dozen victories in his short career to date.

CALL TO ORDER (3) was quick out of the machine here three starts back, finding the front and over the mile, had the speed to claim a PB win with 3m to spare. Buried last start when angled to the poles from a second line gate, he can find the front here and dictating will be hard to catch.

WHOS DELIGHT (1)
won his first two starts for the new stable when arriving in February but has been unplaced in six subsequent appearances. Finishing 8m from EXCLUSIVE HUSTLER last week, he secures the mapping options to feature.

OZZIE PUNTA (8) shanghaied off the arm from gate 5 last week to find the front before taking cover and then running the winner to a half-head margin. Runner-up at his past four in succession, he will be probing.

SELECTIONS: BIRKIRKARA (4), CALL TO ORDER (3), WHOS DELIGHT (1), OZZIE PUNTA (8)
SUGGESTED BET:
Exotics 1-3-4-8

RACE FOUR

Faced with a 10m tape last week, AJAY VOLSTEAD (4) was safely away and capitalised in the early stages to find the front and then put them away with 6m to spare on the wire. Taking further benefit from the outing when second up from a let up, a return to mobile conditions should suit.

ALDEBARANSTILINSKI (3)
made a mess of it when the tapes released last time out and his chances expired. A winner at the mobile mile two runs back when working to the front after being beaten for early speed, he can be handy enough to issue a challenge.

GOLDEN SUNSET (7)
faced a 30m handicap last week from the tapes and was fighting to the wire in grabbing the bronze. An uncharacteristic error at the start proved costly two starts back, but the run thereafter in defeat was enormous. She is in the fight.

IKIGAI (6)
ran the hands off the clock sectionally here last Saturday when making an error before producing a sizzling individual last mile. A similar scenario unfolded on Tuesday, a mistake ending any chance. The speed is there, just needs to find some manners.

SELECTIONS: AJAY VOLSTEAD (4), ALDEBARANSTILINSKI (3), GOLDEN SUNSET (7), IKIGAI (6)
SUGGESTED BET:
AJAY VOLSTEAD (4) to win

RACE FIVE

Sent out in red figures at her first appearance for the new barn, DEBBIE LINCOLN (9) was sent hard off the arm to find the front. Three sub 28 panels left her vulnerable and the fight to hold on for 3rd behind TREMENDOUS SENSATION was valiant. Added fitness and tempo can see her arrive.

BELLA DANZA (10)
was second up last start when angled to the poles from a second line gate to settle three back as LUX AETERNA set the speed from the front. Hitting the line with power to run the winner to a neck margin, her closing sectionals suggest a challenge is imminent.

ZAHRA LOU (3)
has been runner-up in three of her past five, the latest when trying to make a closing raid and finishing 1m astern of CHEER LEADER. The gate advantage can see her feature.

CHEER LEADER (5)
started from outside the second line last start and with the right tempo from the front descended on them in the stretch to claim the verdict. Positioning cheaply will be key.

SELECTIONS: DEBBIE LINCOLN (9), BELLA DANZA (10), ZAHRA LOU (3), CHEER LEADER (5)
 SUGGESTED BET:
DEBBIE LINCOLN (9) to win

RACE SIX

There is some talent in this mare’s qualifier where the wide gate and first up appearance by RUBY RULES (6) will certainly make it a tougher task for the 4YO. Last seen back on December 6 with a stunning 1.50.5 mile after circling to the chair from gate 10, she can look to return with a bang.

SWEET DIOR (9)
started from inside the second line last start and was locked away in the run as REDS ABALZE dictated from the front. Taking them all the way at 2138 two starts back, she will be pressing through in the early stages here to issue a challenge.

NEEDBEE (1)
is a newcomer to the Shawn Grimsey stable that arrives a 10-win mare. Only a neck away two starts back, she maps for the right trip to feature first up in the Sunshine State.

OAKLEY SHARD (4)
started in red figures last start where a sub 27 opening panel left her vulnerable. Fighting hard to go under by a neck, and end a three win streak, she has claims here.

SELECTIONS: RUBY RULES (6), SWEET DIOR (9), NEEDBEE (1), OAKLEY SHARD (4)
SUGGESTED BET:

RACE SEVEN

FOXFIRE EASTON (4) forms part of the advance party for the Brad Hewitt stable ahead of the Constellations and finds the right contest to challenge in first up. Against tempo and not finding the smoothest passage last start at Bathurst, he has the early hustle to capitalise here.

ALWAYS BE CHAPS (9)
joins the Matt Elkins stable, fresh off a break. With a local trial in readiness for the first outing, he produced a tidy piece of work with a sharp hit out and despite the second line gate, can find the right trip to throw down the challenge.

STUDLEIGH MARK (2)
has early speed and can get forward from this gate. A Marburg winner two starts back, he was buried from the second line here last week behind BRAVENTREACHEROUS and the gate is a plus for this assignment.

MATTEO (3)
circled them from the second line at Redcliffe three starts back and was able to claim a 2m margin. Beaten by gate 6 in both subsequent runs, the improved gate will assist his claims.

SELECTIONS: FOXFIRE EASTON (4), ALWAYS BE CHAPS (9), STUDLEIGH MARK (2), MATTEO (3)
SUGGESTED BET:

RACE EIGHT

Snagged off the arm at Redcliffe last time out, TWO TICKS (10) had the closing speed to descend on them for a smart win in a career PB rate. Not suited when asked to park here two starts back, a solid tempo will assist her claims here of descending on them in the stretch.

OUT OF EDEN (8)
has struggled to convert her chances here at HQ and always seems to find a bad gate or an unsuitable set up. Too far back last week at REDS ABLAZE dictated in front, she will be sweating on being leaders back here and from that spot could challenge.

HEAVENS BADGIRL (5)
was struggling to show her best since arriving in Qld before finding the right conditions to dart through on the passing lane to score two runs back. The right trip can see her feature.

TIME TO TORQUE (4) is a newcomer to the Jack Butler team and arrives following three down the line performances at Bathurst. A winner in successive starts prior, she can feature first up.

SELECTIONS: TWO TICKS (10), OUT OF EDEN (8), HEAVENS BADGIRL (5), TIME TO TORQUE (4)
SUGGESTED BET:
TWO TICKS (10) win/place

RACE NINE

Runner-up at his past four starts in succession, STRIKEM (4) finds the right conditions to finally go one better for a second win of 2026. 2m astern of MEGS BOY last start, he was in front all bar the place it mattered when beaten a head two back. He gets every chance here.

SMARTER THAN YOU (2)
was caught in gridlock here last week and when the gap finally opened, he charged through to hit the line in nice order. A passing lane winner at Redcliffe two starts back when stalking the speed, he can be close enough to chime in.

LA CAVALETTA (8)
started from the second line last start when racing in the 1x1 trail and grabbing the bronze behind BRAVENTREACHEROUS. A soft trip aids his podium claims here.

ARKIN WICKED (1)
held the pocket trail from this gate last week and held on for the silver behind the leader and winner MAJOR CRUNCH. A similar trip can produce a similar result.

SELECTIONS: STRIKEM (4), SMARTER THAN YOU (2), LA CAVALETTA (8), ARKIN WICKED (1)
SUGGESTED BET:
Exotics 4 / 1-2-8
