Roxy Cambla will soon have eight smart siblings running around in Queensland after contesting a race over 510 metres at Rockhampton on Wednesday night.

It will be her third attempt at the distance for Louise Cameron. She will travel north with an impressive seven wins from 13 starts.

“She’s only young and she hasn’t conquered the 510 metres,” Cameron said.

“It’s always more exciting when you breed them yourself. She’s certainly been better than we ever imagined.”

While her expectations for Roxy Cambla are not high, the Bundaberg region trainer has plenty to look forward to in the coming months.

The 21-month-old bitch’s dam, Cardi Rocks, recently had a repeat mating with Mount Cambla. Both dogs are still living with Cameron.

“They’re best mates and they always went out in the paddock together of an evening,” she said.

“Next minute I went ‘I think she’s in season’. There are another eight on the ground. They’re six months old. The first time Cardi Rocks only had three.”

Cameron said her Mount Cambla and Cardi Rocks pups were not lacking in strength and racing nous.

“The next eight are not as big as the last lot because she only had three. And, now she’s had eight,” she said.

“But, they’re strong-looking pups. They’re very smart.

“That’s the best thing about her pups. They’re all very clever. They’re all in the same yard. We put their bowls out and say, ‘one each’. And, they all go to their own bowls. They’re amazing.”

Despite their collective smarts and strength, Cameron will be closely monitoring the curiosity of her new eight-dog litter.

“Cardi, when she went straight, she was extremely fast,” she said.

“And, their Dad, he was hitting the peak of his career and he got injured.

“However, his brother Cambla Bear had one race, but he never got on the racetrack again. He was the fastest dog we’ve ever owned.

"And, now it’s just a matter of how lucky or unlucky we are.”

Roxy Cambla will have the benefit of starting from box one in just a four-dog field on Wednesday night.

But, she is still learning over 510 metres, which is why Cameron is not sweating on the outcome.

“As for the 510 metres, her times over that distance are 30 seconds or more,” she said.

“The Young Guns are coming up over 510 metres. So, it’s just to give her a bit of strengthening.”

Cardi Rocks registered three wins from 20 starts for Cameron, who was her trainer and owner.

She passed on strength and tenacity to Roxy Cambla, who has saluted in five of her past eight starts.

“Cardi has size and length. She’s a very long dog and never gave up,” Cameron said.

Cambla Diva is also in form for Cameron, with four wins from her past five starts.

The two-year-old bitch by Tommy Shelby and out of Princess Zeal will start over 407 metres at Rockhampton on Wednesday night.
