8 June 2026

Racing Queensland has today published its FY27 calendars for each of the three codes of racing.

This release follows extensive discussion and consultation with all clubs and relevant industry stakeholder bodies.

In total, 1696 race meetings (668 Thoroughbred, 302 Harness, 726 Greyhounds) will be run across 110 venues, with racing scheduled to be run on every day of the year outside of Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Code highlights include:

Thoroughbreds

  • Changes to counter a reduction in the third TAB meeting (Sky 2) on Saturdays which produce lower commercial outcomes for industry, including:
    • An increase in twilight and night racing to enhance investment in lighting infrastructure and to maximise key evening wagering periods. This programming is also designed to take advantage of opportunities to drive on-course attendance;
    • A slight abridging in meeting/product count (14 meetings) to reduce programming clashes and address reduction in average field sizes;
  • An increased number in Non-TAB meetings converted to TAB status– with retention of the same prize money levels –to secure broadcast and commercial returns for industry. Likely to be more than 30 conversions in FY27.
  • Key feature carnivals will include the Queensland Racing Carnival, the Queensland Summer Racing Carnival – featuring the Magic Millions – and the Queensland Northern Racing Carnival with $1 million in bonuses on offer through the Great Northern Crowns.

Greyhounds

  • Comparable racing schedule year-on-year, inclusive of total number of meetings;
  • Brisbane Cup heats and final both to be run on Saturday nights and showcased on Sky Racing 1 to maximise broadcast, wagering and on-course patronage;
  • Rockhampton Cup moved to feature Friday night slot to grow wagering and on-course patronage;
  • The 2026 Capelbourne Cup – historically a Non-TAB meeting – has moved from Melbourne Cup Day (November 3) to the following day. This change enables RQ to elevate the meeting to TAB status, meaning that all FY27 race meetings are TAB status;
  • A continuation of Rockhampton Sunday night meetings and weekly Wednesday Capalaba meetings while Bundaberg is offline as a result of its track upgrade; and
  • Key feature carnivals will include the Golden Greys Summer Carnival and Queensland Winter Greyhound Racing Carnival.

Harness

  • A slight abridging in meeting count (10 meetings) to address reduced field sizes particularly in the January–March period;
  • Albion Park to race on Thursday from July–September and April–June, with Redcliffe to race in this slot from October–March;
  • Redcliffe to race on Friday from July–September and April–June, with Albion Park to race in this slot from October-March;
  • Key feature carnivals will include the Queensland Constellations headlined by the Inter Dominion Championships, the Queensland Summer Harness Carnival headlined by the Group 1Blacks A Fake, the Ultimate Driver Championship in February and Trot Rods in May.
