Kingsbrae Brett will run over 600 metres for the first time in the fourth Cyndie’s Magic heat at Q2 Parklands on Thursday night.

Kingsbrae Brett's trainer, Jacob Northfield, who is based at Leeville in northern New South Wales, is unsure how he will go over the distance.

“He’s never been over that distance before, so we’ll see what happens,” Northfield said.

However, there is every chance Kingsbrae Brett could surprise from box six.

He certainly did so when he broke the track record over 411 metres at Casino last year.

That was after he produced a scorching 22.76 second effort and saluted eight-and-three-quarter lengths.

“We were a bit surprised, but we knew the dog had the ability. He pretty much jumped in front that day,” Northfield said.

“I was stoked. Emmett Patton, the owner, was training him at the time.

“He was over the moon. I’m training six dogs at the moment. Brett is the standout. He’s always calm.”

Kingsbrae Brett has won five of his past six starts, with two of those coming over 520 metres at Q2 Parklands.

His last start was a disappointing sixth in the Casino Beef Week Cup Final over 484 metres on May 29.

The Ando’s Mac and Lil Macie Breeze chaser missed the start and could not get back into the contest like he often has.

“He normally comes out behind them,” Northfield said.

However, the 34-year-old conditioner said he did not put too much emphasis on trying to fix his box manners.

Kingsbrae Brett turns four on June 24 and has 24 wins from 56 starts for almost $72,000 in career prizemoney.

He has certainly shown he knows what to do on a greyhound racing track.

“I just let him be. He knows what to do – it’s just about whether he comes out or not,” Northfield said.

“He’s always been strong.”

Kingsbrae Brett’s dam, Lil Macie Breeze, recorded 13 wins from 99 starts for Jacob’s cousin, Charles Northfield.

The experienced chaser comes from a strong litter which includes Typhoon Nev, who has 20 victories to his name from 79 starts, and over $82,000 in career prizemoney.

“Lil Macie Breeze keeps throwing good ones,” Northfield said.
