Druery family could celebrate trackside and in parade ring

It could be a big afternoon for the Druery family both on the track and in the parade ring this Sunday.
The Burpengary-based Jean Druery has Pickle And Jean ready to win another title in the Racing Queensland Greyhound Sweepstakes in the 150th Ekka at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
The four-year-old red fawn bitch took out Best Intermediate Bitch last year and this weekend she will enter the Open Bitch four years to six years parading category.
Pickle And Jean was trained by Druery’s brother, Cecil, who has Lakoda Talk, Giverny and Farmor Relief engaged at the Capalaba straight, also on Sunday.
Lakoda Talk has won two of her past five starts and the black bitch, who turns three on August 28, will jump from box six over 366 metres on Sunday.
Jean Druery’s sister-in-law Kirsty also has Lakoda Eclipse and Lakoda Bonnie running at Capalaba this Sunday, with Lakoda Bonnie winning her first three starts by big margins.
The two-year-old red brindle bitch has eight career starts to her name.
Jean Druery said Pickle And Jean – who recorded a win from 10 career starts – had the right attitude to be a good performer in the show ring.
“She has got a good temperament,” she said.
“Last year she won the Best Intermediate Bitch.
"There were only three bitches in it. A win’s a win. Last year was the first year I entered.”
Jean Druery added the Racing Queensland Greyhound Sweepstakes would provide the industry with an ideal opportunity to showcase the gentle nature of their dogs.
“This one we’re showing, I’m halves with my brother in it. We brought her back from a season to breed with her," she said.
“She only came on season once and she’s living with a poodle.
"She’s settled in and makes herself comfortable wherever she can go.
“That could be on the lounge chair. She’s got a mat and bed on the floor and she’ll get on that during the day.
“And, she’ll get up on the lounge at night.”
Meanwhile, Lakoda Bonnie looks a decent chance to bring up a fourth career win for Kirsty Druery in race four at Capalaba on Sunday.
She just missed as favourite last start on Wednesday, finishing third behind the winner, Lady Elloise for Douglas Gladman.
She recorded a time of 19.85 seconds on Wednesday. From box two on Sunday, she can claim the rail early if she outjumps those drawn either side.
From the same starting lane, Farmor Relief can also find a good early position for Cecil Druery in race three on the card.
The veteran five-year-old dog has 11 wins from 93 starts to his name across his career.
