Team Munce launches two-pronged attack in Pink Ribbon Cup

The father and son training partnership of Chris and Corey Munce will once again throw its support behind Pink Ribbon Cup day at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The Gold Coast Turf Club has proudly conducted the breast cancer fund raising day since its inaugural year in 2008 and the Munce family has been a regular supporter.

The Pink Ribbon Cup is a fund raiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Team Munce will launch a two-pronged attack on the Pink Ribbon Cup with Carravilla and Pocketmoney.

Co-trainer Chris Munce has supported the club’s fund-raising efforts for many years after beating his own battle with throat cancer in 2013 during his highly successful riding days.

His son Corey knows what it’s like to be a family member of a cancer sufferer.

“Cancer affects most people at some stage and most people know of a person who has had the disease,” Corey Munce said.

“It’s a worthy cause so why wouldn’t you support it.”

Munce believes he has a great chance of a breakthrough win in the Pink Ribbon Cup this year but finds it hard to separate his pair.

“We haven’t won this race to my knowledge yet but I think both ours have really good chances,” Munce said.

“Both are great live chances and they’ve been prepared for this race.”

Carravilla was bought by Munce for $130,000 at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney and has won five times in 22 starts.

The daughter of Pierata is coming off a last start third to the Kristie Clark-Peoples-trained Blazing Harry in a 1350-metre Benchmark race at Doomben on August 22.

The five-year-old previously finished second in the Noosa Cup at the Sunshine Coast on August 16.

“Carravilla finished third over a slightly shorter trip last start but she’s had a jump out and is going well,” Munce said.

Pocketmoney won four starts back at the Gold Coast in June and is coming off a last start seventh to the Tony Gollan-trained Millane in a 1200-metre race at Eagle Farm on September 5.

“She’s won at this track over this distance and she’s in the right grade against fillies and mares,” Munce said.

“She raced against horses last time that had run in Listed races so I was very happy with her performance.

“The Gold Coast track has been racing fair of late so every horse will get a chance.”
