Kilcoy turns pink for special harness race day

7 October 2026

Every time a thoroughbred race meeting is conducted at Kilcoy, the town and region receives worldwide television publicity via the Sky Racing network telecasting the meetings throughout the length and breadth of Australia and to many overseas countries.

And the spotlight will well and truly be shining on Kilcoy Race Club this Sunday, October 11.

The majority of Kilcoy race days are for thoroughbreds - however on two Sundays per year, the club creates some history with the running of grass track harness meetings.

The concept of harness races on grass at Kilcoy was an idea of then-Kilcoy RC chairman Con Searle and his counterpart at the Redcliffe Harness Racing Club, the late Kerry Ebert, around fifteen years ago.

It was felt that harness racing would become a new spectacle and interest for people residing in and around Kilcoy. And on a broader view, it takes harness racing to a new audience.

This Sunday, the Kilcoy races will be part of 'Pink Up Kilcoy' supporting the McGrath Foundation's outstanding work with cancer care.

Racegoers, male and female, are invited to attend dressed in pink as part of Fashions on the Field.

Admission to the race day is free, with gates open from 11 am. The first race is at 12.45pm with the last set for 4.50pm.

The distance of each race is 1830m with the horses lining up behind the mobile barrier on their way to covering one and a half laps of the Kilcoy track.

In addition to the harness races which attract betting on and off course, the Queensland Mini Trotters Association will be there with non-betting races which always attract a keen following.

Various packages in reserved areas are available for purchase as part of the 'Pink Up Kilcoy' theme for the day.
