General:
Stewards interviewed licensed stablehand Mr A Marshall in relation to his conduct when horses returned to the enclosure after the running of race 1. After taking evidence from Mr A Marshall and licensed trainer Mr M Lee, Mr A Marshall was severely reprimanded under AR175(j) in that he did conduct himself improperly towards a Steward when given a direction.

Race 1: Bottlemart Malanda Class B Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – WICKED THOUGHTS 2nd – KING OF THEBES 3rd – DIVIDED 4th – KANA AKA

DIVIDED – Difficult to load. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to its chest.

PENTHOUSE POPPY – After being placed into the barriers reared over backwards and became cast. In this incident apprentice B Swaffer sustained an injury to his right ankle requiring medical attention. PENTHOUSE POPPY then underwent a veterinary examination and was declared unfit. Acting on this advice the mare was a late withdrawal at 1:18pm and when correct weight was declared it was ordered that all bets placed on PENTHOUSE POPPY be refunded in full and all other successful bets placed on the race be subject to the following deductions of 9c win and 12c place on the face value of the betting ticket. Trainer Mr T Rowe was told that prior to racing again PENTHOUSE POPPY would have to obtain a further barrier certificate. Apprentice B Swaffer was stood down for the remainder of program and was told that prior to riding again he would be required to furnish a medical certificate. Riding substitutions were made as per the steward’s summary.

Race 2: 1911 Restaurant Benchmark 65 Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – FIRMITAS 2nd – ARMY OF ONE 3rd – GLADIUS 4th – SIDADA

ARMY OF ONE – Was slow to begin.

GLADIUS – Overraced in the middle stages and was held up for clear running in the straight.

Stewards permitted nil claiming apprentice S Wiseman to replace S Pawsey (overweight) on BANDIDAS. S Pawsey was fined $100 under AR120b.

Race 3: Tom English Memorial Maiden Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – MR WRECKER 2nd – DRAGON HEART 3rd – OUT OF THE BLUE 4th – MONASHEE LASS

OUT OF THE BLUE – Was slow into stride.

MR WRECKER – Approaching the 1100m was placed in restricted and had to be steadied. Jockey accidentally dropped hid whip near the 50m.

Race 4: Spar Malanda Benchmark 55 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – BAZZA’S BID 2nd – SIGNIFICANT CHOICE 3rd – BEARIZAN 4th – SWEET ASA ROSE

CASHED UP BULLY – Approaching the 900m commenced to buck and was retired from the race. Trainer Mr A Molino was advised that prior to racing again the gelding would have to perform satisfactorily in a trial.

SIGNIFICANT CHOICE – On return to scale was found to have blood present in the near side nostril. Jockey S Pawsey explained that the gelding struck its head when fractious in the barriers. A post race veterinary examination revealed an injury consistent with that of external trauma.

Race 5: Malanda Hotel Open Handicap 1100 metres:
1st – GENERAL RIPPA 2nd – SIZZELON 3rd – BESIEGED 4th – LIDEEM

LIDEEM – Slow to begin.

SEEK DE FORTUNE – Shifted in at the start and made contact with another runner.

GLAURANG – Bumped at the start.
