Stewards conducted inspections of on-course training establishments during the course of today’s race meeting.
Race 1: Tableland Top Meats Maiden Plate 1000 metres:
1st – MAN AROUND TOWN 2nd – GEORGIE PORGIE 3rd – CHRISTMAS VAMPIRE 4th – HUMPTY BUMPTY
The gelding HUMPTY BUMPTY, which was resuming after a prolonged absence from racing, was subject to a veterinary examination pre-race and was passed fit to start.
ALFREEZO – Was fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly.
GEORGIE PORGIE - Shortly after straightening shifted out bumping with another runner.
HUMPTY BUMPTY – Was bumped by another runner shortly after straightening.
Race 2: Emersons Bus Company QTIS Benchmark 60 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – NINETYNINE PERCENT 2nd – ROSE OF CLARE 3rd – OKAY SWIFT 4th – ALEXSTRASZA
The gelding GARDEN CITY, which was a late arrival on course due to transport difficulties, was subject to a veterinary examination pre-race and was passed fit to start.
DRAGON ACE – Was fractious in the barriers.
BEADSWORTH – Began awkwardly. Was inclined to over-race when awkwardly placed to the inside of runners near the 700 metres.
OKAY SWIFT – Bumped with another runner at the start. Was severely checked near the 800 metres when a runner to its outside shifted in.
PUDZIANOWSKI – Bumped with another runner at the start.
NINETYNINE PERCENT – Was racing in restricted room near the 800 metres.
Jockey F Edwards, rider of ALEXSTRASZA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of OKAY SWIFT resulting in that gelding being checked severely and losing its rightful position in running. Jockey Edwards was suspended from riding in races for a period covering two (2) NQ race meetings to commence at midnight May 10th and to expire at midnight May 16th.
Race 3: Tablelands Respite Care Association Class 3 Plate 1200 metres:
1st – LADY FOXY 2nd – MODEL TO EXCEED 3rd – I’M MARIAH (NZ) 4th – GRISWALD
GRISWALD – Began awkwardly,shifting out abruptly and crowding a runner to its outside. Commenced to over-race when the pace steadied in the middle stages.
LADY BULLMORE – Lost ground at the start when crowded between runners.
DADON – Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.
MODEL TO EXCEED – Bumped with another runner shortly after the start. Made the turn near the 800 metres awkwardly. Commenced to over-race when the pace steadied in the middle stages.
I’M MARIAH (NZ) – Made the turn near the 800 metres awkwardly. Was inclined to hang out for some distance thereafter.
Race 4: Bundaberg Rum Magic Millions/FNQ Up & Coming Stayers Benchmark 55 Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – ARCANUS 2nd – OZEIN 3rd – CRAIGLEA FOCUS 4th – CASHED UP BULLY
JUST A FRACTION – Was slowly away.
MAECENUS – Raced wide throughout.
ARCANUS – Was held up for clear running on straightening. Was crowded for racing room passing the 200 metres by a runner to its inside which was shifting out.
MANALUTE – Was severely checked approaching the 200 metres by a runner to its inside which was shifting out.
Apprentice jockey Ms. N Nelson, rider of CASHED UP BULLY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 200 metres she permitted her mount to shift out across the running of MANALUTE which clipped the heels of CASHED UP BULLY and blundered,further resulting in ARCANUS being crowded for racing room. App. Nelson was suspended from riding in races for a period covering two (2) NQ race meetings to commence immediately and to expire at midnight May 16th.
Race 5: Airfirst Open Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – IDLE SITUATION 2nd – MIDNITE RAID 3rd – DE LA SOUL 4th – KAMARAH
FRENCH LESSON was a late scratching at 3:58pm on Veterinary advice after the gelding had sustained an injury to its nearside.hind stifle. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on FRENCH LESSON be refunded in full and that all winning bets placed before 3:58pm be subject to deductions of 58 cents for the win and 39 cents for the place.
KAMARAH – Was slowly into stride.
MIDNITE RAID – Raced wide at the home turn. Shortly after straightening shifted in bumping with another runner.
KOOLASACAT – Was bumped by another runner shortly after straightening.
