Cairns Jockey Club, Monday June 10th, 2019
Race 6 Class 1 Handicap 1250m
Following the running of this event Stewards, after reviewing the performance of Amata Sorella, which compounded in running and finished tailed off, subsequently advised Trainer Mr. P Rowe that any future nominations for the mare to compete at TAB race meetings would be refused until such time as its form improved by way of Country meetings. On Tuesday June 11th, Mr Rowe contacted Stewards and advised that Jockey P Romeo who rode the mare had been of the opinion Amata Sorella had got its tongue over the bit in running and as a result commenced to choke down leaving the 800m. This advice was corroborated by Jockey Romeo. In light of this Stewards  advised Mr Rowe that the TAB embargo would be lifted and the mare’s future performances closely monitored. Further both Mr Rowe and Jockey Romeo were reprimanded under the provisions of AR105 in relation to their failure to report the matter to Stewards immediately following the running of the race.
Race 1 – Accounting On The Tablelands Maiden Plate 1100m
Miss Krey Zee which refused to proceed to the barriers was withdrawn by order of Stewards at 12.43pm. Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on the mare be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed on the event prior to 12.43pm be subject to deductions of 27 cents in the dollar win and 19 cents in the dollar place on the face value of the betting ticket. Trainer Ms. S D’Avila was advised Miss Krey Zee would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
Uptown Toff – Shifted out abruptly soon after jumping inconveniencing runners to its outside. Raced wide in the middle stages.
Benvenuti – Slowly away. Was inconvenienced soon after jumping. Shifted out after being restrained off heels when over-racing near the 550m. On returning to the enclosure was found to have bled in running 1st time. Trainer Mr. F Wieland was advised the mandatory 3 months ban from racing would apply and Benvenuti would be required to perform a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
Tellmay – Was inconvenienced soon after jumping. Raced wide in the middle stages. Shifted in marginally near the 550m placing a runner to its inside in restricted room.

Trainers Representative Ms. K Allender was advised the mandatory 3 months ban from racing would apply and Hotel Hilltop would be required to perform a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
Race 4 – Watto’s Earthmoving Benchmark 50 Handicap (2) 1400m
Buxton – Began awkwardly after being fractious in the barrier.
Kalahari Pearl – Was slowly away after beginning awkwardly.
Mbwali – Jockey S Kaya reported the gelding was inclined to hang out in running.
Short Term – Was disappointed when attempting to improve near the 300m.
Liberation Lad – Raced wide for the majority.
When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance Trainer Ms. S Horner advised that Backtospec which was having its 3rd start today after a spell was a lazy trackworker and derived most of its fitness through racing. Ms. Horner also added Backtospec had appreciated today’s firmer racing surface, and being able to cross to the lead near the 800m and dictate the tempo of the race from that point had also been, in her opinion, a telling factor. Ms. Horner advised the stable had not supported the gelding in today’s race.

Whinging Wife – Slowly away.

Kensington Star – Shifted out abruptly on jumping hampering runners to its outside.
Run Hoff Run – Hampered on jumping by another runner which shifted out abruptly.
Rooster Hunter – Slowly away.
Alpine Magic – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Commenced to lose ground near the 800m and finished tailed off. Trainer Mr. B Hunter undertook to advise Stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may have affected the performance of the gelding.
Barwon – Was inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
On returning to scale App. A Thomson who rode 2nd placegetter Super Mario advised Stewards of her intention to lodge an objection against Rooster Hunter (S Wilson) being placed 1st on the grounds of alleged interference in the home straight. After hearing submissions from the connections of both runners, viewing the available patrol footage, and based on their own observations in running, Stewards established that approaching the 100m Rooster Hunter commenced to shift in under hard riding and soon after made heavy contact with Super Mario, which had maintained its line, causing that gelding to become unbalanced. As Stewards were of the opinion that the major contributing factor to the incident was the inwards shift from Rooster Hunter, and in consideration of the degree of interference caused by the significant contact between the 2 runners which were separated by a margin of a short head at the winning post, Stewards upheld the objection and reversed the Judge’s placings prior to declaring Correct Weight.
