Cairns Amateurs Race Meeting 11 September 2021

Race 4 – Class 6 Plate – 950 Metres

RIGEL – Trainer S. Massingham advised stewards following its disappointing performance that a subsequent veterinary examination and blood tests revealed no abnormalities. He further advised the gelding has since pleased him in its trackwork and whilst monitoring RIGELS progress, he will proceed with its preparation.

General:

Due to Covid-19 restrictions and a shortage of jockeys the following riders were permitted to ride their respective mounts over their allotted weights.

Race 1,
Arawelo – A. Abe + 1kg, Fascinating Miss – S. Sheargold + 1.5kg

Race 6 – A. Thomson + .5kg

Race 1: WAX ON WAX OFF MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 Metres

FASCINATING MISS – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Slow to begin. Trainer A. Holmes was advised a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners. Mr Holmes further advised it is now his intention to send filly for an immediate spell.

SLIPPERY SLIME – Slow to begin.

OUR FLAMING MOES – Began awkwardly and slow into stride.

MILLAA MISS – Laid out rounding the home turn shifting wider.

Race 2: PANORAMA VIEWS ESTATE CLASS B HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

STYLE LINE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

TADEMA – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

STARFILLY – Laid out approaching the 800 metres and made the turn awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages.

Race 3: SAVANNAH CAMPERS & TRAILERS QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

OCTOBER STORM – Slow to begin.

RED DENARO – Slow to begin.

MISS CLAIR – Shifted wider leaving the 650 metres.

WHITTERICK – Laid out rounding the home-turn.

MISTER MAGNUSIFENT – Disappointed for a run leaving the 150 metres and was steadied.

VIENNA CRUISE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

SET TO SIZZLE – Laid out for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 4: CENTRAL TYRE SERVICE OPEN HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

Correct weight was delayed when the second placegetter, Jockey S. Pawsey (SPACE TIME) requested to view the patrol films to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the first placegetter DREAM I CAN (S. Sheargold) After viewing the films, and the photo finish print jockey Pawsey advised that he did not wish to proceed with the protest.

DREAM I CAN – Raced keenly in the early stages.

SPACE TIME – Steadied off heels near the 800 metres.

Race 5: COSTA'S CUP BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

CONQUERING JUDAS – Declared a late scratching at 1.38pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice due to a laceration in its upper left lip which occurred in transit to the course. Trainer G. Hughes will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding’s next start.

CRAIGLEA SIMMO – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Lost its off-hind plate during in the race.

MUSICAL GIRL – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Race 6: BARRON VALLEY HOTEL, LIQUOR LEGENDS & XXXX ATHERTON CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 2000 Metres

LOVE FLIES – Was declared a late scratching at 11.20am due to no available rider.

KINGSBRIDGE – Due to a shortage of available rider’s stewards permitted A. Thomson to ride the gelding 1/2 kilogram over its allotted weight despite Ms Thomson at present not being permitted to accept rides under 56 kilograms.

CITY SMART – Slow to begin.

BUXTON – Improved into a tight run near the 1500 metres and was checked.
