LADBROKES CANNON PARK CAIRNS 12 JUNE 2023

Race 6: CAIRNS DIESEL SERVICE PTY LTD BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1250 metres

BELLE ADELE – Trainer R. Baker subsequently advised stewards that following further examinations of the mare after returning to its stable had revealed no abnormalities and it has since pleased him in its preparations and he would now experiment with a further gear change prior to its next race start.

GENERAL

The following runners which had not raced for an extended period all underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were cleared to start. Promise Bay, Night Guy.

Race 1: BOOKIES CLASS B HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

PROMIS BAY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 2: EXPRESSWAY SIGNS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

LADYLOU – Shifted out on jumping forcing PROPHETS wider. Checked near the 1100 metres when tightened for room by PROPHETS which shifted in when placed in restricted room by BEAN WARRIOR which shifted in. Jockey M. Abe, the rider of BEAN WARRIOR pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that he permitted BEAN WARRIOR to shift in when not fully clear of PROPHETS which was taken in onto the rightful running of LADYLOU which was checked. Jockey M. Abe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of (7) days to commence midnight Saturday 24 June 2023 and expire midnight Saturday 1 July 2023. In considering penalty stewards considered jockey Abe’s recent good record in relation to this breach and his guilty plea. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

HERVOR – Slow to begin.

DUBAI EAGLE – Slow to begin.

IT’S A PLOY – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping LADY OF FORTUNE. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

LADY OF FOTUNE – Bumped on jumping.

PROPHETS – Forced wider on jumping. Placed in restricted room near the 1100 metres and shifted in tightening LADYLOU.

BEAN WARRIOR – Shifted in near the 1100 metres placing PROPHETS in restricted room.

SCAMDEMIC – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer T. Rowe advised stewards it is his intention that SCAMDEMIC be retired from racing. Stewards will follow this up with Mr Rowe.

Race 3: ATHERTON FAMILY DENTAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 Metres

SHADOW ECLIPSE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

NOISE WORKS – Race wide in the early stages and threw it head in the air when restrained near the 1000 metres to take a position closer to the inside running rail. Shifted wider leaving the 800 metres.

NONO JOE – Raced wide in the early stages. Rider D. Sparks was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish line.

Race 4: – NQ HYDRAULICS & HEAVY DIESEL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1400
Metres

ARUBA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly.

DAY TO FAVOUR – Was declared a late scratching at 2.54pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice when found to be lame in the off-foreleg. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on DAY TO FAVOUR was ordered to be refunded with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable. Trainer M. Taylor was advised he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance for the mare being permitted to race or trial again.

NIGHT GUY – Wide early.

SWANY SUE – Wide early.

Race 5: – TOLGA HOTEL MAGIC MILLIONS/ROB KOCH MEMORIAL / FNQ UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 2000 Metres

THE BEAT GOES ON – Saddle shifted back soon after the start placing rider at a distinct disadvantage for the remainder of the race. Raced ungenerously for a short distance after the start.

TOFF ROCKS – Jockey N. Nelson was questioned regarding the tactics and riding of the gelding particularly in the early and middle stages. Ms Nelson stated she was issued instructions to ride TOFF ROCKS out of the barriers as it can be tardy out of the barriers however the gelding took charge of her in the early stages, and it was not her intention to lead. Trainer A. Paterson confirmed the instructions. Ms Nelson further advised the gelding caught her by surprise near the 1000 metres when it dropped the bit and lost ground quickly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

DAMMOSQUITO – Rider N. Day dropped his whip approaching the 100 metres.
