GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight for today’s meeting:
Race 3: Jockey M Gray + 0.5kg = 56.5kg
Race 1: CAPRICORN PLUMBING & BUILDING SUPPLIES MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres.
Correct weight was delayed allowing connections and the rider of 2nd placegetter MINT STREET, Jockey M Gray to view the photo finish of the event. When connections, Jockey Gray and Stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was given on the judges’ semaphored numbers.
BOP 'N' DAN – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in down the home straight from the 300m until passing the 100m.
FULL OF EURO – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI OUTLAW – Jockey Anna Bakos-Schrapel reported that the gelding raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
MINT STREET – Began awkwardly and shifted out shortly after jumping. Inclined to lay out from the 600m until entering the home straight. Shifted out under pressure passing the 150m and had to be straightened by its rider. Raced wide throughout.
Race 2: GBA ENGINEERS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000 Metres.
PALAZZO SPIRIT – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages and had to be steadied from heels passing the 800m. Momentarily raced in restricted room when improving into a run between CHIEF MONDO and BOATING passing the 100m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PENMAN – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously when being restrained passing the 800m and shifted out. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
RUBY SURPRISE – Inclined to lay out under pressure passing the 100m.
BURDEKIN BOY – Slow to begin. Taken wider on the track passing the 800m when PENMAN shifted out when racing ungenerously. Raced wide throughout.
POTESTAS – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.
Race 3: THANK YOU BARCALDINE RACE CLUB VOLUNTEERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 Metres.
BALDASSARE – Held up for clear running entering the home straight and shifted in to obtain clear running. Apprentice Jockey J Devine reported that BALDASSARE was inclined to hang out for the majority of the event.
INFLUENTIAL JACK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
DWINDLING SPIRIT – Jumped outwards at the start.
TRANSCELTIC – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Inclined to lay in down the home straight.
BRILLIANT MELODY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
OLIGARCHY – Weakened over the final 250m. A post-race Veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.
HIGHGROUND – Jockey Anna Bakos-Schrapel reported that in her opinion, the gelding was reluctant to respond to her riding and proved to be disappointing in today’s event.
MINTO'S POWER – Began awkwardly and as a result lost ground.
BITTERSWEET PLUCK – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the home straight.
JAMAICAN – Due to a shortage of riders, Stewards exceeded to a request from Jockey M Gray to ride JAMAICAN half a kilogram over the allotted weight. Jockey M Gray was reprimanded pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
VALIANT JOAN – When asked to comment on today’s performance of VALIANT JOAN, Trainer H Forster stated that the mare had trained well leading up to today’s event and had gainedfitness from her previous starts in the lead up. Mr Forster added that in his opinion, VALIANT JOAN was also suited by todays track conditions.
Race 4: MICHAEL HORMAN TRANSPORT QTIS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1300 Metres.
BELLO BELLO – Slow to begin and slow into stride. Tailed the field before responding to the riding of Jockey J Missen when entering the home straight and finished the race off strongly.
DIRECT AFFECT – Momentarily steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of BAUHINIA BEANS which shifted out slightly when under pressure passing the 150m.
SHAMUKA – Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
SPILL THE DIAMONDS – Slow to begin. Shifted wider to improve passing the 600m and raced wide for the remainder of the event. Laid in over the final 200m.
VAIN FOX – Raced wide throughout.
THE LANDING – Raced wide throughout.
BAUHINIA BEANS – Shifted out slightly when under pressure passing the 150m.
HENNY PENNY – Weakened over the final 300m. Jockey J Rudd reported that in his opinion HENNY PENNY was not suited by the step up in distance at today’s event.
Race 5: PAT OGDEN MEMORIAL TREE OF KNOWLEDGE CUP/OUTBACK RACING SHOWCASE OPEN PLATE 1600 Metres.
CAFFREY (IRE) – Shifted out under pressure passing the 90m resulting in the rider requiring to stop riding momentarily and straighten the gelding.
JOHNNY DASH – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
GOLDEELUCK – When being loaded into the barriers for this race, GOLDEELUCK backed out of the barriers before the back gates could be shut and harmlessly dislodged Jockey T Banks.
NASSAU COUNTY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight,resulting in the rider requiring to stop riding momentarily and straighten the gelding passing the 100m.
