GENERAL
Due to the abandonment of today’s Newcastle meeting, the race start times were amended and advertised as below:

As Apprentice S Pointon was not riding at today’s meeting due to being injured, rider replacements were made as per the Steward’s Race Day Summary.
RACE 1: CAPRICORN PLUMBING & BUILDING SUPPLIES MAIDEN PLATE (1200 M)
COOL MAN SHOW – Began awkwardly.
FULL OF EURO – Bumped shortly after the start by TRAPEZE FLYER which shifted outwards. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
TRAPEZE FLYER – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards, bumping FULL OF EURO shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
IKNOWYOU – Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a lead position near the 900m.
PLEA – Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the lead near the 900m. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
READY LIGHTLY – Raced keenly in the early stages.
BOOGIE FEVER – Slow to begin. Underwent a post-race Veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D Rewald advised that the immediate racing future of BOOGIE FEVER would be considered within his stable.
RACE 2: BARCALDINE REGIONAL COUNCIL BM50 HANDICAP (1000 M)
Correct weight was delayed allowing Jockey R Faehr, the rider of fifth placegetter BOATING, to view the photo finish. After viewing the photo, Jockey Faehr was satisfied in his finishing position and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.
FREDDIE EDDIE – Shifted out across heels passing the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
IDHANA – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Bumped with POTESTAS near the 300m when that runner had shifted outwards.
PENMAN – Bumped by POTESTAS which shifted outwards shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
BOATING – Began awkwardly.
CHIEF MONDO – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards abruptly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
POTESTAS – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards, bumping PENMAN. Approaching the 800m had to restrain to avoid the heels of BOATING which shifted inwards when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey R Faehr was reminded of his obligations in ensuring he is clear of other runners when shifting ground. Shifted outwards near the 300m and bumped with IDHANA. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
MISHANI TWILIGHT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
MIDSUMMER NIGHT – Knuckled on jumping.
RACE 3: GBA ENGINEERS BM60 HANDICAP (1000 M)
ABLETT – Apprentice C Lowe pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 10 times prior to the 100m, 13 times in total. Apprentice Lowe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days with the suspension to commence midnight 24th May 2025 and to conclude midnight 1st June 2025. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration the QRIC whip penalty guidelines. Apprentice C Lowe was advised of her rights to an appeal.
JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Following the running of the event, Trainer T Schofield advised that a post-race examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Trainer T Schofield was advised that JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) would be stood down from racing under the provisions of AR79(4) for 3 months and would be required to trial, jump out or gallop 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to racing again.
CHANGE IS COMING – Was declared a late scratching at 1:33pm on Veterinary advice after becoming fractious in its stable prior to arriving on course. Trainer P O’Toole was advised that CHANGE IS COMING would require a Veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
INREADYNESS – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination after having competed at Emerald on the 17th of May and was cleared to start. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
HUMOUR ME – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
PALAZZO SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
ABOUT RIGHT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
RACE 4: WESTERN TRUCK GROUP QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE (1200 M)
Correct weight was delayed allowing Jockey T Townsend, the rider of second placegetter GROWL, to view the photo finish. After viewing the photo, Jockey Townsend was satisfied with the finish margin and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.
BALDASSARE – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Upon returning to scale, Apprentice J Busuttin advised that her mount was inclined to hang in throughout the event, proving difficult to ride out fully to the finish.
GROWL – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination at the barriers after becoming fractious in the mounting yard and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer G Bell was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its pre-race manners.
SCHMOOZER – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards.
TANGO FAME – Raced wide in the early stages. Had to momentarily steady near the 100m after racing in restricted room between BALDASSARE which laid out and GROWL which laid in.
BOSTON OF TUFFY – Slow to begin.
FRIENDLY SIZZLE – Proved difficult to load. Trainer A Webb was advised that a warning would be placed on the mares record for being difficult to load. When asked for a comment on the performance, Jockey T Chambers stated that FRIENDLY SIZZLE travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when asked for an effort in the home straight, the mare failed to respond and ultimately went to the line in a disappointing manner. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer A Webb was advised that a further warning would be placed on the mares record for its poor performance.
JOHNNY UTAH – Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in from a point near the 600m.
BIJARA – Slow to begin.
FRASER'S RIDGE – Held up in the home straight until shifting inwards to obtain clear racing room at a point near the 300m.
RACE 5: BARCALDINE WELDING WORKS QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE (1200 M)
BOLD SMUGGLER – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
SHARP DAZZLER – Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages and had to be corrected by its rider. Upon returning to scale, Apprentice J Busuttin reported that SHARP DAZZLER is better suited racing over further distances and would derive benefit from the run.
SO OUTRAGEOUS – When asked for a comment on the performance, Apprentice G Semmens stated that the gelding never travelled well throughout the event. Trainer R Williams reported that in his opinion, SO OUTRAGEOUS failed to handle today’s softer track conditions. Underwent a post-race Veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DESERT STAR – Raced wide from a point near the 700m.
HEARSAY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, Trainer J Manzelmann stated that HEARSAY had been racing consistently over its previous starts, but with no luck. Trainer Manzelmann further added that the drop back in grade today also proved beneficial in the gelding’s overall chances.
SPIN DOCTOR – Slow to begin.
FINAL MISSION – Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
MORE THAN A STAR – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
LOOMING LEGEND – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
HENNY PENNY – Raced wide throughout.
RACE 6: ROSS SHEARING CLASS 6 PLATE (1300 M)
ENABLER – Was reluctant to load. Raced keenly in the early stages.
FELONIOUS – Shifted outwards on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance, Trainer H Forster stated that they will look to change the racing pattern of the gelding moving forward with future intentions to have FELONIOUS ridden more conservatively and attempt to settle further back in the field. Underwent a post-race Veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
GOLDEELUCK – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
PREFERRAL (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
JOURNALISM – Began awkwardly and as a result lost ground.
SPERANZOSO (GB) – Slow to begin. Commence to overrace in the early stages and had to be restrained. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
UPSTART LEGEND – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards shortly after the start.
RACE 7: RLR PHOTOGRAPHY BM55 HANDICAP (1300 M)
BADGE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
LONERGY – Had to steady and shift inwards to avoid the heels of SPILL THE DIAMONDS which laid out near the 250m. Jockey C McIver, the rider of SPILL THE DIAMONDS was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of another runner.
ISHOTTHEDEPUTY – Laid in over the concluding stages.
MORICONI – Shifted inwards on jumping, hampering GOODFUN. Raced wide in the early stages.
SPILL THE DIAMONDS – Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
CUSHY (NZ) – Shifted outwards on jumping, hampering GOODFUN. Raced wide throughout.
HAMISO – Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
VALIANT JOAN – Raced wide in the early stages.
GOODFUN – Hampered on jumping by MORICONI which shifted inwards and CUSHY (NZ) which shifted outwards, and as a result lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Apprentice N Palmer was reprimanded under the provisions of AR211(1) for weighing in excess of 0.5kg overweight. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration that this was apprentice Palmer’s first breach under this rule.
RACE 8: MICHAEL HORMAN TRANSPORT OPEN HANDICAP (1000 M)
THE HANGER CAT – Began awkwardly.
DEHORNED UNICORN – Bumped with SCARZEL on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.
SCARZEL – Bumped with DEHORNED UNICORN on jumping.
KINJINA – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
GOTTA FLY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
THE SQUIRE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
MON PIERRE – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
BURDEKIN – Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages and had to momentarily steady from the heels of SCARZEL passing the 200m.
