WEATHER – Fine     TRACK RATING – Good 4     RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – R Hanson.
Stewards – Z Lines (Cadet).

GENERAL

Due to the hot weather conditions that were forecast for the Barcaldine race day, the start time for the programme was set at 10.00am with each race following to be started at 30-minute intervals. The race meeting was conducted in accordance with the QRIC caring for racing animals in extreme heat policy with pre-race parade times significantly reduced and the establishment of on-course cooling stations in the race-day tie-ups, parade areas and a number of other relevant measures.

As Jockey M Gray was not riding at today’s meeting due to acceptable reasons, replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Stewards accepted the reasons offered by trainers regarding the late notification of riders at today’s meeting which are reported as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Stewards permitted the following overweight at today’s meeting:
Race 4: Jockey R Faehr - +0.5kg.

Race 1: GBA CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1600 Metres

SUMMER SIZZLING – Shifted in approaching the 100m to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CALYX ROSE – Slow to begin. Jockey D Evans reported that after being slow to begin and losing ground, CALYX ROSE shifted wider passing the 600m to improve but the amount of ground lost at the start proved detrimental to the chances of the mare in today’s event.

SHOALWATER BAY – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

HIT 'EM UP – Underwent a prerace Veterinary examination at the request of Trainer G Rafter and was subsequently passed suitable to start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Jockey Townsend received further treatment from QAS Officers following the running of this race and was advised that she would require a medical certificate prior to next race riding.

PRIDE OF ICE – As Jockey T Townsend was unable to fulfill her riding engagement on PRIDE OF ICE due to illness she was replaced by Jockey A Butler. Trainer P O’Toole was advised that the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on PRIDE OF ICE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
