GENERAL
 
The following horses were declared late scratching’s by Stewards at 7.59am due to no riders being available at the meeting:
Race 4: NASSAU COUNTY - DAWN EMBERS.
Race 6: ROLL UP - MOKTAFFY (IRE).
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight at today’s meeting:
Race 4: Apprentice Jockey Mitch Goring + 0.5kg – Claim 0.5kg of 1kg allowance.
 
 
Race 1: HAPPY EASTER BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP BM60 1000 Metres
 
GOTTA FLY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SCHMOOZER.
 
MR CASHMAN – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
SCHMOOZER – Bumped on jumping. Momentarily steadied from heels approaching the 800m. Laid in under pressure down the home straight.
 
CURRY LEGEND – Began awkwardly and bumped SCHMOOZER.
 
Race 2: CAPRICORN PLUMBING MAIDEN PLATE 2-Y-O & Up 1000 Metres
 
ANXO – Steadied from heels passing the 700m. Laid in under pressure down the home straight.
 
CIRCUS MAXIMUS – Bumped on jumping.
 
BAILE BHOID – Began awkwardly and bumped CIRCUS MAXIMUS resulting in BAILE BHOID losing ground. Raced wide throughout the event. Weakened over the concluding stages.
 
BELLA RUSSIAN – Jockey E Bell reported that BELLA RUSSIAN was inclined to lay out down the home straight and as a result she was unable to fully test the mare over the concluding stages of the event. Trainer C Austin was advised that a warning would be placed against the racing manners of BELLA RUSSIAN.
 
NAORO – Slow to begin.
 
HOLY HOLY HOLY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure down the home straight.
 
SIMPLY SMASHING – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
Race 3: BARCALDINE SANDGOANNAS CLASS 2 PLATE 3-Y-O & Up 1000 Metres
 
ALL VALOUR – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
POTESTAS – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure down the home straight.
 
BRISKET – Reared out of the barriers as the start was affected and lost ground. Steadied from heels and shifted out approaching the 600m. Trainer P O’Toole was advised that a warning would be placed against the mare for her barrier manners.
 
HASANA – Approaching the 600m commenced to throw her head in the air and was eased out of the race. Apprentice Jockey M Mankelow reported that HASANA locked on to the offside rein and veered to the outside rail leaving her no option than to stop riding and ease the mare out of the race. Apprentice Mankelow also added that HASANA has had a tendency to grab the bit and hang out in recent trackwork. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer T Schofield was advised that HASANA would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. Trainer T Schofield advised Stewards that the mare would be retired from racing.
 
TELL US TOLL – As a result of TELL US TOLL being reluctant to proceed to the barriers, Trainer B Johnson was advised a warning would be placed against the pre-race manners of the mare.
 
Race 4: GBA QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP BM55 1200 Metres
 
NASSAU COUNTY – Declared to be a late scratching at 7.59am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
 
BOOMROUX – Inclined to lay in when weakening over the concluding stages.
 
BOURBON LANE – Raced wide throughout the event. Weakened over the concluding stages.
 
DAWN EMBERS – Declared to be a late scratching at 7.59am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
 
WINDORAH – Laid out under pressure approaching the 100m before being straightened by its rider.
 
YES LARRY – Held up passing the 300m before shifting out around the weakening TAHKIAN BUBBLES to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
RUN FREDA RUN – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure down the home straight.
 
TRAPEZE FLYER – Slow to begin. Apprentice Jockey M Goring advised Stewards that he would be unable to claim his full allowance due to being dehydrated after riding at Mt Isa the previous day. After considering all relevant factors put forward to Stewards and as there were no other riders available, Stewards permitted Apprentice Goring to claim 0.5kg of his allocated 1kg claim. Apprentice Goring was reprimanded pursuant to AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance.
 
Race 5: BARCALDINE WELDING CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1300 Metres
 
LITTLE COINTREAU (NZ) – Bumped shortly after the start when LASTING PROMISE shifted in. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
ALL TOO LUCKY – Slow to begin.
 
CALL OUT – Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure over the final 50m.
 
FERGHANA – Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in down the home straight.
 
THE COAT HANGER – Slow to begin.
 
LASTING PROMISE – Shifted in on jumping and bumped LITTLE COINTREAU (NZ). Raced wide throughout the event.
 
Race 6: TREE OF KNOWLEDGE CUP DAY 2 MAY OPEN HANDICAP 1300 Metres
 
After this race, Apprentice Jockey M Goring reported to Stewards that he was experiencing pain in his left foot which he attributed to making contact with the barrier gate on jumping in Race 4. Apprentice Goring was examined by on course QAS Officers and was diagnosed with bruising to the foot and was advised by QAS to seek further scans to determine if there may be any further injury. Apprentice Goring was advised that he would require a medical certificate before riding again.
 
CAFFREY (IRE) – After being loaded into the barriers, the gelding’s barrier gate opened prematurely and CAFFREY (IRE) travelled a short distance before being pulled up by Apprentice Jockey V Soulsby and was returned to the starting position where the gelding underwent a Veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start. Slow to begin. Apprentice Soulsby reported that after being slow to begin, CAFFREY (IRE) travelled well and in her opinion missing the start proved detrimental to the gelding’s chances in the event. Apprentice Soulsby also added that she was not disappointed with the gelding’s effort and the gelding will derive benefit from the fitness gained in today’s event.
 
ROLL UP – Declared to be a late scratching at 7.59am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
 
HURTLE – Slow to begin. Apprentice M Goring dropped his offside rein passing the 50m and was unable to regain the rein before the finish line.
 
STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Shifted in passing the 100m to obtain clear running.
 
VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure passing the 200m.
 
OCEAN EMPEROR – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure passing the 100m
 
MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Declared to be a late scratching at 7.59am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
 
HURRICANE THUNDER – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
GREGARIOUS – Shifted in under pressure passing the 120m.
 
BITTERSWEET PLUCK – Laid in in the early stages of the event. Raced wide throughout. Weakened over the concluding stages.
