GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight at today’s meeting:
Race 3: Apprentice Jockey M. Goring - 0.5kg of 2kg claim.
 
A track inspection was conducted by Stewards on arrival at the Barcaldine racecourse and as a result the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 10.55am.

RACE 1:MICHAEL RAFTER MEMORIAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1600 M

ARDEN GREEN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and bumped FERGHANA. Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Approaching the 250m when weakening, steadied off the heels of FERGHANA which shifted out to obtain clear running.

FERGHANA  - Bumped on jumping. Held up for clear running from 300m to the150m before shifting out across heels to obtain clear running.
 
CALL OUT -  Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NOTACLUEHOWORWHO - Slow to begin.
 
FLOP TURN RIVER – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.

HOWSE – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.     

RACE 2:WESTERN PRODUCE & RURAL SUPPLIES MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M

ARE YA THERE – Became fractious and dislodged Apprentice Jockey M Goring behind the barriers before galloping some distance and breaking through the outside running rail before being captured. ARE YA THERE was declared a late scratching at 1:58pm on Vets advice with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st – BLUE ROMAN – 5 cents win, 6 cents place.
2nd – TAKE A BREAK – 6 cents place.
3rd – CIRCUS MAXIMUS – 6 cents place.
 
A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B Johnson was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
BLUE ROMAN – Over-raced in the early stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TAKE A BREAK – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
BEL SONG - Slow to begin and slow into stride. Momentarily held up for clear running passing the 300m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages of the event.
 
BELLA RUSSIAN – Bumped on jumping.

BOOM FLYER – Raced wide throughoutthe event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Stewards accepted the reason given by Trainer M Pitman regarding the late notification of a rider for the mare.

TRIPLE JAB - Reluctant to leave the mounting yard. Stood flat footed when the start was affected. Trainer R Zahl was advised the mare would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. Trainer R Zahl was also advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s pre-race behavior.
 
ASK ME HARRY - Began awkwardly bumping BELLA RUSSIAN. Laid out rounding the home turn.

RACE 3:MICHAEL HORMAN BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000 M

LOVE CHILD (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted out and inconvenienced SPEC OF SILVER.
 
BLANC DE NOIR -  Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SPEC OF SILVER – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when LOVE CHILD and POTESTAS both shifted ground on jumping.
 
WORKSMEUP - Raced wide throughout the event. Approaching the 100m steadied from the heels of BLANC DE NOIR when that runner shifted in under pressure. Apprentice Jockey M Mankalow, rider of BLANC DE NOIR was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
CURRY LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Stewards permitted Apprentice Jockey M Goring to only claim 0.5kg of his 2kg allowance as there was no other available rider to replace him. Apprentice Goring was fined $200 pursuant to AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance.
 
CHIEF MONDO - Raced wide throughout the event.
 
POTESTAS - Shifted in on jumping, inconveniencing SPEC OF SILVER. Held up for clear running entering the home straight until the 150m.       
 
RACE 4:CAPRICORN PLUMBING QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 1300 M

REBELIOUS RED - Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection behind the barriers after being kicked by another runner and was cleared to start. Shifted out on jumping bumping SHARP DAZZLER. Over-raced in the early stages of the event. Shifted in under pressure passing the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
REGAL JUDGEMENT – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SHARP DAZZLER - Bumped on jumping and then shifted out bumping REGAL JUDGEMENT.
 
ARMSTRONG BAY - Raced wide throughout the event. Jockey R Faehr was reminded of his obligations in relation to raising his whip arm above shoulder height.
 
BOOMROUX – Apprentice Jockey M Mankelow reported that BOOMROUX was inclined to over-race in the early stages of the event.
 
WANT TO BE PROUD - Raced wide throughout the event. When questioned regarding the gelding’s performance, Jockey E Bell stated that WANT TO BE PROUD failed to respond to her riding throughout the event and in her opinion the gelding didn’t appreciate today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
YOU KAY SQUEEZE – Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.  

RACE 5:PAT OGDEN MEMORIAL TREE OF KNOWLEDGE CUP/OUTBACK RACING SHOWCASE - OPEN PLATE 1600 M

CAFFREY (IRE) – Slow to begin. Steadied off the heels of VICTORY BAY near the 800m. Held up for clear running from the 400m until the passing the 250m.

HEYINGTON STATION – Over-raced in the early stages of the event. Laid in on entering the home straight. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
HURRICANE THUNDER - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughoutthe event. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Slow into stride.
 
TAVANASIA (NZ) -  Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Held up for clear running entering the home straight.

BOLD HUSSAR – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

LITTLE COINTREAU (NZ) - Over-raced in the early stages of the event. ‘

RACE 6:THANK YOU RIDEWEST FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE WEST CLASS 6 PLATE 1200 M

SHOALWATER BAY – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start commenced to over-race before being steadied off the heels of FINAL COMMENT. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

GRANITE PRINCE  - Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
TANGO FAME – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Jockey E Bell reported that TANGO FAME felt flat throughout the event and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an irregular heartbeat. Trainer B Richardson was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trialing again. 

SCHMOOZER – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Restrained soon after jumping to obtain a position closer to the inside rail from an outside barrier. Held up for clear running down the home straight.
