GENERAL

Trainer T Thomas was reprimanded under LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual accepted RAPID DUDE by the prescribed time. Stewards were mindful of Mr Thomas’ good record in relation to this rule.

RACE 1: VISY QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1090M
 
DENMAN AVENUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
GOLD STARS – Shifted outwards on jumping impeding SECRET CAVIAR and slow to begin as a result. Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards over the concluding stages.
 
HOT FLAMINGO – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards carrying BLAME THE BUBBLES wider.
 
RICHBOY HARRY – Hung outwards rounding the home turn and lost ground. When questioned in relation seemingly disappointing performance jockey K Gates reported that after hanging rounding the home turn and losing ground as a result the gelding went to the line only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
BLAME THE BUBBLES – Carried outwards on jumping by HOT FLAMINGO. When questioned in relation to the performance apprentice T Orr reported that his mount traveled well through the early stages however proved disappointing over the concluding stages. He further added that the filly may derive benefit from a step up in distance and the addition of a tongue tie.
 
SECRET CAVIAR – Impeded on jumping by GOLD STARS and slow to begin as a result. Raced wide in the early stages.
 


RACE 2: CORTEVA & RIVULIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP         1212 M

COINCIDE – Blundered on jumping. Near the 1000m laid inwards and became awkwardly placed on the heels of NICCONORI.
 
NICCONORI – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
CINDERELLA MAN – Bumped and impeded on jumping by MISS RINEHEART. Improved wider on the track from the 700m. Raced wide throughout.
 
CULTURAL SPIRIT – Jockey N Thomas reported that his mount was inclined to hang throughout proving difficult to fully test his mount.
 
BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid outwards over the concluding stages. When questioned in relation to the performance Apprentice B Barker reported that her mount began well however during the middle stages had failed to travel due to the heavier sand conditions today, which proved detrimental overall.
 
DARLING CLEMENTINE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not starting for an extended period and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLICK – Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISS RINEHART – Began awkwardly shifting inwards bumping and impeding CINDERELLA MAN. Raced wide throughout.
 


RACE 3: HAIFA LIGHTNING OPEN HANDICAP 850M

MAXIMUM OUTPUT – Began awkwardly. Steps out for a stride shortly after the start impeding CITY CHICK. Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MR TANGLES – Shifted inwards shortly after the start impeding CITY CHICK despite the efforts of its rider.
 
CITY CHICK – Began awkwardly and impeded shortly after the start when MR TANGLES shifted inwards despite the efforts of its rider and MAXIMUM momentarily steps out for a stride, losing ground. Raced wide throughout.
 
JAMESATELLI – Began awkwardly impeded shortly after the start by AMPHAWA. Raced wide in the early stages. Hung inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey A Spinks was questioned in relation to his vigour over the concluding stages, he explained that his mount was hanging inwards proving difficult to ride out. After viewing replays and considering the explanation stewards could not be satisfied that jockey spinks actions had cost his mount a placing, nonetheless, stewards reminded jockey A Spinks of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the finish.
 
ABLETT – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
CLOCKS TICKING – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery.
 
AMPHAWA – Shifted out on jumping impeding JAMESATELLI.
 
 

RACE 4: LINDSAY AUSTRALIA LTD BUNDABERG GOLD CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1380M

UNDER THE CAP – Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to getting back during the early stages, apprentice S Tierney explained that after beginning only fairly from a wide draw, she got trapped wide, in combination with her mount resenting the kickback she allowed her mount to travel where comfortable and improved wider during the middle stages.
 
VILLADEN (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages.
 
MOORABINDA MICK – Raced wide throughout.
 
HEAT – Raced wide throughout. Hung inwards under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected on a number of occasions by its rider. When questioned in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance apprentice T Orr stated that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages however getting trapped wide throughout the event proved detrimental to the geldings chances. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
CORKSCREW (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 

RACE 5: NUFARM / INTEGRATED PACKAGING GROUP BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1380M

ALL BUSINESS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result.
 
ACES UP (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
SIDESHOW FRANKIE – Impeded on jumping by DAUNTING INSTINCT. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
RAPID DUDE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted wider near the 600m to improve. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
OPTIMUS MAXIMUS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
DAUNTING INSTINCT – Shifted out on jumping impeding SIDESHOW FRANKIE.
 
I'M FAMOUS – Jockey R Wilson was questioned in relation to her riding of the mare in the home straight, it was established that she had become jaded as she had only recently returned to race riding. Considering the circumstances stewards admonished Ms Wilson and advised her that when accepting rides she must present herself with a fitness level to be able to ride her mount out to the required standard.
 
MEDIA GEM – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice T Orr was fined $100 under AR211(1) after returning to the scales in excess of 0.5kg overweight. Stewards were mindful of Mr Orr’s unblemished record in relation to this rule and his guilty plea.
 
BEATLEMANIA – When questioned in relation to the performance jockey M Kennedy advised that the mare had travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when asked for an effort had failed to respond. She further added that BEATLEMANIA had felt awkward in its action and subsequently eased the mare out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer G Finnigan was advised that a warning would be placed on BEATLEMANIA’s record for a poor performance.
