Trainer B. Dais was fined $100 for the late declaration of S. Fawke as the rider of WALTZ IN FLIGHT.

LAKOUDIS – Slow to begin.

RALPH THE DRAGON – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages.

EVA FEROCIA – Cast its off fore plate in running.

WALTZ IN FLIGHT – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 6.

Race 2: TRADE ALLIANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

MOUNT PERRY – Steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

TAVY NIGHTS – Became awkward of its own accord near the 500m and lost ground.

MOE’S TAVERN – Rider M. Dracos was found guilty of a charge under AR. 137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out approaching the end of the race with sufficient vigour, specifically the portion of the race between the 100m and the 30m. Jockey Dracos’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 weeks, to commence at midnight on Saturday 31 January 2015 and expire at midnight on Saturday 14 February 2015. Whilst stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that jockey Dracos’s actions did cost his mount first place, they were of the view that his actions did cast some doubt as to whether or not MOE’S TAVERN should have won the race.

QALATERAL – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

GIVE ME A CHANCE – Had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room at the start.

VERSACE MISS – Raced wide in the early stages and then raced ungenerously for some distance passing the 600m.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 5.

Race 4: HAPPY BIRTHDAY KERRI CLASS 1 PLATE – 1650M

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer K. Hickmott for the late declaration of R. Jamieson as the rider of BLESSINGS and TUNED IN in Race 6.

ALWAYS A GIBBERER – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

MISTER LOOSEEL – Began awkwardly.

OUTSTRIP – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

ACADANE – Raced wide throughout.

WARSHIP – Blundered on jumping away. Raced wide throughout.

TEQUILA SLAMMER – Raced wide throughout.

TEMUDGIN – Began awkwardly.

Race 5: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1400M

BREEZE ON BY – Began awkwardly.

DOLL IN HI HEELS – Began awkwardly.

BLACK POINT – Lost ground when tightened for room at the start. Weakened noticeably from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer V. Chalmers was advised that she will be required to produce the results of an ECG and the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to it being permitted to race again. Ms Chalmers indicated that BLACK POINT would now be sent for a spell.

D’ARCY ARMS – Lost ground when tightened for room at the start.

Race 6: RAILWAY HOTEL COUNTRY QUEENSLAND SHOWCASE CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1200M

As J. Hull was indisposed due to illness, B. Appo was substituted as the rider of SIMPLY SMART.

The start was delayed whilst a section of the running rail near the 200m had to be repaired.

SIMPLY SMART – Contacted by another runner on jumping. Laid in and had to be steadied from heels leaving the 200m.

IDLE SITUATION – When questioned as to the gelding’s disappointing performance, trainer G. Baker noted that it was first up over an unsuitable distance and in his opinion would perform better when stepped up over further distances. Mr Baker also noted that the gelding performed best when racing on firm surfaces and in his opinion did not appreciate today’s track conditions. Stewards noted his comments. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

DALINE – Raced three wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

TUNED IN – Bumped by another runner leaving the 200m.

MOONLIGHT NOVA – Raced wide in the early stages.

PANDORA CHARM – Slow to begin.

LADY GUEVARA – Began awkwardly.

KATIKA – Jumped out at the start and made contact with another runner.

Race 7: BRACKEN RIDGE TAVERN CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

NO IFS OR BUTS – Raced wide in the early stages and was ridden forward to take up the leading position on the fence near the 800m.

CLIFF’S DREAM – Began awkwardly. Obliged to steady from the heels of JOLIE MADELEINE approaching the 100m and shift to the outside of that runner to obtain clear running.

BAY HERO – Laid in in the early stages of the home straight.

SUM IT UP – Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 100m.

KING OF THE BAY – Began awkwardly.

POCILLO – Slow to begin. Steadied when tightened for room over the concluding stages.

BEYOND THE STORM – When questioned as to his riding of the gelding, jockey A. Allen stated that he was instructed to wait until straightening to place the gelding under pressure as the trainer had advised him that it possessed a short sprint. Jockey Allen added that leaving the 400m CLIFF’S DREAM shifted out in order to improve, at which point his mount became awkward at the heels of that runner, resulting in him having to steady. Jockey Allen further added that bearing in mind the trainer’s instructions and the fact that he did not want to be taken wider on the track rounding the home turn, he waited until the 300m to place the gelding under pressure, at which point it began to respond. Jockey Allen noted that in the early stages of the straight his mount was inclined to lay in behind the heels of another runner, however finished the race off well over the final 150m. His explanation was noted.

MAHOE LASS – Raced wide throughout.
