GENERAL
The distances of Races 3, 4 and 5 were amended from 1100m to 1200m due to inconsistent track surfaces in the vicinity of the 1000m due to a burst water main which occurred earlier in the week.
Race 1: Rebel FM Two-Year Old Maiden Handicap – 1200m
Jockey J. Morris was reprimanded for failing to arrive on course by the prescribed time.
TRE BROWN – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by L. Dittman for being unable to make the allotted weight on the gelding. N. Masuda was substituted as the rider of that horse. Overraced near the 900m and had to be steadied from heels. Raced 3 wide throughout.
GO BETTER – Slow to begin.
CAPTAIN ADRIATIC – Tightened for room and lost ground at the start.
RALPH THE DRAGON – Bumped at start. Overraced in the early stages.
ELEMENTAL BOY – Shifted in at the start and made contact with another runner. Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race.
CHICKS DIG ME – Became unbalanced shortly after the start and shifted in and had to be steadied from heels.
REVERSE LOGIC – When asked to explain the performance, rider T. Treichel stated that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however failed to run on when placed under pressure and, in his opinion, proved disappointing.
Race 2: Corinthian Doors Social Club Class 3 Plate – 1300m
WALTER – Slow to begin.
HIDE THE ACE – Slow to begin.
Race 3: Beaudesert Times Maiden Plate – 1200m
MASTER KWILA – Slow to begin.
VERSACE MISS – Tightened for room and lost ground on jumping away between ANGEL OF LIBERTY, which shifted out, and PEQUENINOS , which was taken in by MIDNIGHT OIL, which began awkwardly and shifted in. Had to be momentarily steadied near the 900m when LULIN shifted in. K. Stanley, rider of LULIN, was advised to exercise more care.
FLYING SENORITA – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 300m of a tiring runner and had to be steadied.
MIDNIGHT OIL – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
YARD GLASS – Raced wide in the middle stages.
GREEN STYLE – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 300m, making contact on a number of occasions with EDICTUM, and again near the 100m shifted out making contact with EDICTUM, which then shifted out, bumping ANGEL OF LIBERTY, which shifted in slightly. R. Jamieson, rider of GREEN STYLE, was reprimanded and advised to make greater effort to keep her mounts straight in similar circumstances.
ANGEL OF LIBERTY – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
LULIN – Raced wide throughout.
INTEGRITY – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Budget Screens, Blinds and Awnings Class 4 H’cap – 1200m
CAMPIONESSA – Slow to begin.
PURE INTELLIGENCE – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air on a number of occasions and lost ground.
SUBSTATION – Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out with full vigour over the concluding stages.
Race 5: Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce Ratings Band 0-62 H’cap – 1200m
LITTLE ELVIS – Slow to begin.
HIGH DEGREE – Overraced in the early stages.
MOE’S TAVERN – When asked to explain the performance, rider B. Ainsworth explained that after beginning only fairly she elected to settle the horse back off the pace, however felt the horse was never comfortable on today’s track conditions and never travelled well at any stage and failed to let down when placed under pressure leaving the 500m, and, in her opinion, proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 6: Haymans Electrical Beaudesert Cup Open H’cap – 1400m
Due to transport difficulties, M. Wood was unable to fulfil his engagement on EMPRESS ME and was subsequently replaced by K. Stanley.
EMPRESS ME – Threw its head in the air on jumping away.
BARONESS ZEENA – Tightened for room at the start between MOONLIGHT NOVA,
which shifted out and STAR DRAGON, which shifted in. Shifted in under pressure overthe final 100m.
GET ON - Tightened for room at the start
MOONLIGHT NOVA – Held up for clear running and unable to improve from a point leaving the 500m until near the 200m.
UNION – Raced 3 wide throughout the race.
STAR DRAGON – Raced 3 wide throughout the race.
Race 7: West Arana Hills Old Boys Class 1 H’cap – 1400m
CHEEKYBOI – Slow to begin.
HE’S DIRT CHEAP – Slow to begin.
OH MY ROCKET – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, rider F. Jervis stated that she was mindful of the wide position she was in, however her instructions were that once getting to the 800m to ride forward from that point of the race. She further stated that leaving the 1000m she attempted to settle the horse however was forced wider on the track when SAVVY GIRL, which had a tendency to overrace, shifted out, forcing her wider. She further added that whilst she acknowledged she was racing wide she was mindful of her instructions and rode the horse accordingly. Trainer P. Dawson confirmed the instructions as he felt the horse raced better when ridden in that manner. Stewards noted the explanation.
SAVVY GIRL – Stewards afforded S. Eilbeck the opportunity to explain the tactics adopted on the horse in the early and middle stages. She stated that whilst she rides the mare work she is mindful of its racing manners in that when trying to restrain the horse it has a tendency to throw its head in the air and overrace. She further added that approaching the 800m the mare improved onto the heels of LEGAL COUNSEL and instead of fighting against the horse she allowed the mare to improve to its outside and as a result raced wide for the majority of the race. Whilst stewards noted her explanation they nonetheless advised her they would anticipate a greater effort from her to restrain her mounts in similar circumstances.
