CAPTAIN ADRIATIC – Had to be steadied from the heels of JAZZY RULER which shifted out near the 150m.
EMVEPEE – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice M. McGuren stated that his intention was to settle closer to the speed today, however despite his efforts it failed to muster speed and as a result he was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated. Apprentice McGuren added that in his opinion his mount failed to travel comfortably in the early and middle stages. He added that he was forced to race extremely wide rounding the home turn and once balanced upon straightening, the colt responded to his riding and finished the race off well. Apprentice McGuren was of the opinion that the colt may not have been entirely comfortable on today’s firm conditions. Trainer B. Hill stated that the colt had raced in a similar fashion at its last start at the Gold Coast, and despite working well leading into today’s event, he was disappointed in its overall performance and as such he will send it for an immediate spell. Cahill stated that from the wide barrier today he was unable to obtain cover and he was forced to race wide throughout. He added that the gelding was under pressure leaving the 500m and in his opinion was somewhat disappointing today, however, bearing in mind the extra ground the gelding was obliged to cover, he was not totally disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
REPO ZEST – Badly held up over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
ALWAYS A GIBBERER – Unable to improve when held up passing the 500m. Steadied from the heels of THREE RONDAVELS, which shifted in near the 200m. M.
