SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Gold Coast 19.12.15 – Race 7: Trainer D. Kelly reported that x-rays performed on SPECIAL JAY following the race revealed the horse to have jarred up and as such would be treated accordingly before racing again.

From Gold Coast 26.12.15 – Race 4: Trainer T. Edmonds reported that SUNDANCE had jarred up following the race and would be monitored in the coming days, however his present intention was to continue with the colt’s current racing preparation.

Race 1: BEAUDESERT SOFT DRINKS F&M MAIDEN PLATE– 1050M

ADJOURNED – Had to be steadied near the 1000m when OXFORD ROAD was taken in by TIS MINE. Near the 800m shifted out and away from YOU SAY NO WAY, which was racing ungenerously, making contact with FLYING SENORITA.

GAMBLE UP A STORM – Slow to begin.

OXFORD ROAD – Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that her mount raced greenly throughout the event.

RED COMANDA – Slow to begin, bumped by another runner.

YOU SAY NO WAY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner. Raced ungenerously from the 800m and shifted wider on the track, then approaching the 600m shifted out forcing ADJOURNED wider on the track. The filly was then allowed to improve forward and raced wide from the 600m.

FLYING SENORITA – Bumped near the 800m. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 6.

Race 2: XXXX C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

As apprentice M. Murphy was delayed due to transport difficulties, J. Guthmann-Chester was substituted as the rider of MISHANI PHOENIX.

ISAPHAN – Apprentice S. Alam was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

DYNAMIC STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover.

MISHANI PHOENIX – Slow into stride. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester stated after receiving instructions he expected the gelding to show early speed, however after beginning well the gelding was unable to muster early speed, but once placed under pressure leaving the 600m, commenced to find the line well and in his opinion will be much better suited over a longer distance than that of today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.

REVERSE LOGIC – Began awkwardly and made contact with the inside barrier gate.

KAPSTAR – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

WIG WAM BAM – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: PSP QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

As apprentice M. Murphy was delayed due to transport difficulties, J. Guthmann-Chester was substituted as the rider of BIG BAMBOO.

WORLD SPECIAL – After dislodging its rider during the preliminary and galloping for some distance, the horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 1.25 pm by stewards acting on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on WORLD SPECIAL be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cent in the dollar for the Win #6
1 cent in the dollar for place of winner #6
1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place #1

Race 4: LADIES DAY SUNDAY 24TH JANUARY CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M

SHOW HARMONY – J. Morris was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to his mount passing the winning post.

CASHINKO – Began awkwardly. Near the 600m had to be steadied from the heels of FRISCO JOE, which shifted out. Apprentice B. Ainsworth, the rider of FRISCO JOE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

MAGAZINE MISS – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground. When asked to explain the horse’s performance, rider E. Ljung stated that after beginning awkwardly the mare never travelled comfortably throughout the race, however when asked for an effort leaving the 400m, did make some ground in the home straight but was nevertheless disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer S. Iverson was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse starting again.

ITALIAN QUEEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 5.

Race 5: COUNTRY SHOWCASE SUNDAY 24TH JANUARY C,G&E BM62 H'CAP – 1100M

ROYAL PHYSICIAN – Jockey S. Shield reported that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when asked to improve leaving the 300m it failed to respond and was very disappointing in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a mild case of the thumps.

SUPERIOR DRAGON – Jockey R. Fradd reported that the gelding was slow to begin and as a result was obliged to settle further back than anticipated. He added that as a consequence he was forced to make a wide run from the 500m and the gelding then peaked on its run over the concluding stages, but nonetheless he was disappointed in its overall performance. Trainer N. McCall agreed with the comments of jockey Fradd.

BLOODED – Had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of GET THAT INDYA, which shifted in. Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of GET THAT INDYA, was advised to exercise more care when her mounts shift ground.

RIALTO GUY – Shifted in of its own accord near the 500m and made contact with the running rail. Failed to be competitive throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg due to shifting a plate during the race. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that the horse would be ineligible to compete at TAB meetings until such time as it establishes satisfactory country form.

Race 6: RAILWAY HOTEL F&M BM62 H'CAP – 1100M

FLINDERS PEAK – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.

GINA BALLERINA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

POCILLO – Had to be steadied near the 1000m when tightened for room between FLINDERS PEAK, which shifted out slightly, and QUINTANA, which shifted in slightly.

BLACKJACK PRINCESS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and then had to be steadied near the 150m when disappointed for a run and then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event.

STAR STRIDER – Bumped at the start. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

HALLE CAT – Raced wide throughout.

Race 7: CLEAR SUMMER LODGE RATINGS BAND 0-62 H'CAP – 1650M

KENTAUR – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

WE’RE READY – When questioned as to the horse’s performance, B. Stewart stated that after leaving the 600m he was unable to improve and lost ground when positioned on the back of NEAR THE CITY. He added that passing the 400m he was able to shift out and improve, at which point the gelding was only able to finish the race off fairly and in his opinion was somewhat disappointing. Jockey Stewart further added that connections had indicated that the gelding would be given a freshen up prior to its next start. Trainer J. Pritchard stated that she would attempt to place the gelding in races over further distances in future.

SCOOT FILOOT – Began awkwardly. Had to be steadied from the heels of ADIZERO near the 1500m. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

ADIZERO – Clipped the heels of KENTAUR near the 1500m, blundered and shifted out, resulting in J. Morris losing the use of his nearside iron for some distance thereafter. At a subsequent inquiry, S. Apthorpe, the rider of UNDER THE WEATHER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1500m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ADIZERO, which was forced in on to the heels of KENTAUR. S. Apthorpe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 3 January 2016 and expire at midnight on Tuesday 12 January 2016.

ROYALTOWN ROAD – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

NEAR THE CITY – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

UNDER THE WEATHER – Raced wide in the early stages.

AGENCIA – Had to be steadied and lost ground near the 1400m.

CHINSKY – Apprentice B. Ainsworth was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 8: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400M

KING WILLEM – When questioned as to the horse’s performance, jockey Morris stated that the gelding was slow to muster speed in the early stages despite his efforts and as a result raced further back in the field than anticipated. He added that when placed under pressure passing the 400m the gelding responded and finished the race off well. Jockey Morris further added that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited over further distances than that of today’s event.

MISHANI DE NIRO – Shifted wider on the track leaving the 800m and raced wide from that point onwards until entering the home straight.

JOLLY BOY – Had to be steadied from heels leaving the 800m.
