OUR HOT FRIEND- Stewards questioned App. L Barr in relation to the performance of the gelding and further as to her riding of the gelding during the middle stages. App. Barr advised that the gelding settled towards the rear of the field as she had expected, and that she did not overly pressure the horse in the early stages as it has a tenancy to over race if ridden aggressively in its races. App Barr added that near the 1100m, when the pace of the raced quickened, OUR HOT FIREND became detached from the main body of the field and for that reason she commenced to ride her mount along from the 900m to improve her position. App Barr went on to say that from this point the gelding ran on reasonably, however overall in her opinion was disappointing. Having had an opportunity to review the patrol footage, App Barr agreed with Stewards that between the 1100m and 900m she erred in not placing her mount under greater pressure sooner than she did in an endeavour to improve her position closer to the remainder of the field. Stewards however bearing in mind App. Barr’s inexperience as an apprentice rider took the matter no further. A post-race Veterinary examination of gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
