GENERAL
Stewards accepted the explanation for the late rider declaration of riders from Trainer M Currie in Races 4 and 6 for acceptable reasons.
 
Gatton 2/11/2023 Race 7 Class 3 Handicap – Trainer T Cotsiopoulos reported TECOMA STREET, which pulled up significantly lame in the near hind leg had recovered well and it was now her intention to give the horse a short let up before continuing with its current preparation.
 
Race 1: PRYDES EASIFEED EASIOIL OPEN HANDICAP  1100 M
 
OVIDIUS – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW – Rider T Brooker reported her mount was inclined to lay out for the majority of the event and as a consequence, when rounding the home turn, OVIDIUS was able to obtain a run to the inside of that horse on entrance to the home straight.
 
CELESTIAL SOL – Passing the 400m laid in and contacted the running rail. When asked to comment on today’s performance rider B Ainsworth reported the gelding failed to muster early speed as expected, was inclined to lay in and proved disappointing in the run to the finish.
 
NEVER PAID – The saddle on the horse shifted back shortly after the start placing rider L Tarrant at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Raced wide throughout.
 
GEE BEE ESS – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
Race 2: PRYDES EASIFEED EASIPERFORMANCE CLASS 2 PLATE  1650 M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, L Tarrant rider of 4th place getter BADER lodged a protest against 2nd past the post WONFORWAZZA (A Allen) for interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from connections of both runners and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that near the 150m WONFORWAZZA shifted in and crowded the running of BADER which had to be checked. Bearing in mind the 1 ½ length margin and the manner in which both runners finished the race off, Stewards dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared of the semaphore placings. At a subsequent inquiry, A Allen rider of WONFORWAZZA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that near the 150m, he made insufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in which resulted in BADER being crowded for room and having the be checked. Jockey A Allen’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days commencing midnight 7/11/2023 up to and including midnight 16/11/2023.
 
COLLECTION POINT – Passing the winning post on the first occasion near the 1300m, was crowded for room and had to be steadied when FLASH ZARIZ shifted in when not fully clear. M Savva rider of FLASH ZARIZ was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
BADER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
WONFORWAZZA – Trainer M Morrison was reprimanded pursuant to LR 30(1)(b) for failing to have the horse on course by the prescribed time.
 
Race 3: PRYDES EASIFEED RACING CUBE MAIDEN PLATE  1650 M
 
BELPHEGOR – Contacted the enclosure gate moving onto the track. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, commenced to hang out, taking BEASTICON wider on the track. Eased out of the event passing the 1000m and failed to complete the event. Trainer S Alam was advised BELPHEGOR must trial satisfactorily before racing again. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities
 
CAPTURED IN TIME – Taken wider near the 1300m when the pace of the race eased significantly.
 
FIT AND PROPER – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, had to be checked from the heels of NEWMARKET MISS when the pace of the race eased significantly. B Ainsworth rider of NEWMARKET MISS was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(d) for excessively slowing the pace.
 
WORD FROM ABOVE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1300m, checked from the heels of BEASTICON when that runner was taken wider. A short distance later T Brooker allowed the horse to stride forward and obtain the lead near the 900m.
 
BEASTICON – Shifted in on jumping. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, had to be checked from the heels of NEWMARKET MISS when the pace of the race eased significantly and taken wider on the track. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FRENCH MINER – Weakened from the 900m. Trainer V Coombes was advised a warning would be placed on FRENCH MINER for poor performance.  
 
RED VEGAS – Declared a late scratching at 1:57pm by order of Stewards after becoming fractious in the mounting yard and was unable to be mounted by its rider. Trainer V Coombes was advised the mare must trial satisfactorily under race day conditions prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed RED VEGAS to have sustained minor lacerations on both hind legs.  Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested in RED VEGAS to be refunded with the following deductions:
1st place – 3c win, 4c place.
2nd place – 4c place
3rd place – 7c place.
 
LOVE LOCH – On arrival to the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and declared a late scratching at 2:02pm on veterinary advice after found to be lame in the off foreleg. Stewards ordered all monies invested in LOVE LOCH to be refunded with the following deductions:
1st place – 2c win, 2c place.
2nd place – 2c place.
3rd place – 3c place.
 
Trainer D Lane was advised LOVE LOCH would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
Race 4: PRYDES EASIFEED THREE JERICHO CUP (HEAT) BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP  3090 M
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing L Gough, trainer of 2nd place getter GRAND SHANGAI, to view the photo finish image for first place.
 
GO MILLO – Left a rearward trailing position near the 1800m, progressed forward, and raced outside the leader near the 1500m.
 
READY BY DESIGN – Left a rearward trailing position near the 1800m, progressed forward, and led the event near the 1500m.
 
JIMMY THE TULIP – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FURTHERING – Raced wide from the 1700m. Over raced throughout the event and proved difficult to settle.
 
AWESOME MOON – Weakened from the 700m. Rider N Tomizawa reported when placed under pressure near the 1000m, failed to respond to his riding from that point adding that in his opinion, AWESOME MOON was not suited by the distance of today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BOOG'S BOY – When weakening near the 450m, momentarily crowded for room when LUCASAYD was taken in by TUKI TWELVE. Weakened from the 600m. Rider R Thorburn advised Stewards his mount failed to run out today’s event distance of 3090m.
 
Race 5: PRYDES EASIFEED ENERGYPAK MAIDEN PLATE  1100 M
 
PRADO – Shifted wider rounding the home turn to secure clear running taking POLENS wider on the track.
 
BENNU – Raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.
 
GREGARIOUS – Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. Approaching the finish line, laid out under pressure and momentarily hampered MAPLE MAGIC.
 
SCOTTISH FARMER – Laid out rounding the home turn. Jockey D Smith was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being 1 more than permitted.
 
POLENS – Bumped after the start. Raced wide for majority. Forced wider rounding the home turn when PRADO shifted out to improve.
 
SIMPLY ROSE – Raced wide for majority.
 
TRACONI'S PRIDE – Jumped in at the start and bumped POLENS.

Race 6: PRYDES EASIFEED BIOMARE CUBES CLASS 1 PLATE  1200 M
 
Due to a power malfunction, the start of this race was affected manually.
 
CRAZY EYED FRED – Slow to begin.
 
JOY MCCOY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Shifted wider on the track from the 500m and near the 400m laid in momentarily. Passing the 100m, the whip of rider M Powell momentarily became entangled with the offside rein, placing him at a minor disadvantage.
 
PHARAONIC – Began very awkwardly and as a result partially displaced near side winker before becoming dislodged near the 600m. Raced in restricted room to the inside of SILVER ONYX for some distance passing the 300m and near the 250m brushed the running rail.
 
SILVER ONYX – Laid in under pressure near the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
 
NAVY BLACK – After contacting the saddling enclosure rail underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
WHITE RIBBON – Became fractious in the mounting yard and contacted the saddling enclosure fence. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Trainer T Gollan was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s pre-race manners.
 
DESTINY'S DANCER –Approaching the 100m shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip. Raced wide for majority of the event. Apprentice C Krahnen, rider of DESTINY’S DANCER, was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(i) for use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
