GENERAL
As Apprentice Z. Sprie was unavailable and Jockey N. Tomizawa was injured, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards race day summary. Jockey Tomizawa was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
Race 1: HEIGHT4HIRE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1650M
IN AND AWAY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be have mild heat stress.
JAM PACKED – Slow into stride. Near the 1300m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
STEPLIKA LION – Raced wide throughout.
MONAROMA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
ENIDZEL – Slow into stride. Near the 1400m, commenced to race keenly and shifted wider. Continued to race keenly in the middle stages. Momentarily held up leaving the 400m.
STILL UNWANTED – Blundered on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and leaving the 1300m had to be steadied off heels.
WEEKEND ARTIST – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SAVEA – Raced wide for the majority.
MONTEVECCHIO – Began awkwardly. Apprentice J. Metcalfe was reminded of her obligations when using her whip when out of contention.
Following the running of race one, the track was upgraded to a Soft 7.
Race 2: CARSWELL & COMPANY CLASS 1 PLATE 2450M
AYASAKI – Slow into stride.
BLUEPRINT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
KIRORO PEAK (NZ) – Shifted in under pressure over the final 150m.
SEEYA LATER GATER – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the middles stages and had to be steadied off heels near the 1400m.
SOUTHOFTHEBORDER – Began awkwardly.
VISCOUNT SYDNEY – Apprentice J. Metcalfe advised her mount raced keenly throughout the event.
CRIMSON SPIRIT – Change of tactics; to settle off the pace. Settled behind the lead.
LA VITTORIA – Raced wide from the 800m.
Following the running of race two, the track was upgraded to a Soft 6.
Race 3: KARMO FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 PLATE 1200M
AUNTY RENE – Laid out rounding the home turn.
ONE BEAT NO BEAT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages.
RAINBOW LASS – Leaving the 400m, was inconvenienced and shifted out to avoid WARRIOR CHIEF.
WARRIOR CHIEF – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 400m, faltered in its action and was eased out of the race. An immediate veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained a significant injury to its near-hind leg. The mare was subsequently euthanized on humane grounds and samples were taken for analysis.
Race 4: KNIGHT FRANK MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
RED CAPE – Slow to begin and trailed the field throughout. Co-Trainer B. Costello was advised the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again for being uncompetitive.
SUMMIT – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running the early stages of the home straight and was inclined to lay in under pressure.
PENSIERO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Shifted out near the 75m, obliging Apprentice T. Fenlon to stop riding and straighten her mount.
MEDIA BRIEF – Began awkwardly.
CHAMPAGNE SUNSET – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
UP THE CREEK (NZ) – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
Following the running of race four, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.
Race 5: MORGANS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 3 PLATE 1200M
OAKFIELD STORM – Slow to begin.
REACHOVER – Declared a late scratching at 11:12am after having swelling in its front leg. Trainer W. O’Connell was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing or trialing.
CASANOVA MAN (NZ) – Slow to begin.
KEEPMEINTHELOPE – Laid out rounding the home turn.
SIR BEVERIDGE – Bumped shortly after the start.
WINCHMAN – Bumped shortly after the start.
CERTIFIED COPY – Near the 350m, dipped when racing tight with WINCHMAN. When asked to comment, jockey J. Lloyd advised the gelding is better suited when leading. Jockey J. Lloyd was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.
Race 6: AUSTRALIAN EARLY LEARNING COLLEGES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1400M
CANADIAN EXPRESS – Held up for clear running from the 400m until the 300m.
GOLD PRINCE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced for an extended period and was cleared to start. Leaving the 100m, shifted wider to obtain clear running.
TAKUNAI – Bumped at start.
INQUISITOR – Bumped at start. Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey A. Thompson reported his mount was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BLINDING SPEED – Held up for clear running from the 400m until the 300m. Approaching the 100m, raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of DRIALLE (A. Heinrich) which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice A. Heinrich was advised to stop riding and straighten her mount in similar circumstances.
ACE'S IN BLOOM (NZ) – As Apprentice J. Willams was overweight he was replaced by Jockey A. Allen. Apprentice Williams was subsequently fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
Race 7: ATD PROPERTY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1400M
THE BOSS MAN – When asked to comment, Jockey J. Huxtable advised the gelding had to do to much work in the early stages to obtain a forward position, which he believes was detrimental to its finishing efforts.
BENEDICT ARNOLD – Jockey A. Allen could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
CLEARLY GEORGE – Declared a late scratching at 2:23pm on veterinary advice when the gelding was found to be lame in the off-hindleg after being kicked on route to the track. Trainer V. Heading was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing or trialing.
DECARBONISE – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
SHANNON'S LEGACY – Laid in near the 400m and bumped CABO CASANOVA.
CABO CASANOVA – Leaving the 400m bumped by SHANNON’S LEAGACY which laid in.
SHACKAMAXON – Held up from the 350m until the entrance of the home straight.
FOREBEARS – Raced wide until the 700m.
ZELEZNY – Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice J. Metcalfe reported her mount felt stiff in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
