SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Gold Coast – Saturday 7 March 2026
Jockey D. Boutet was fined $100 pursuant to AR 128(2) for failing to seek permission from Stewards prior to leaving the course.
Gold Coast – Saturday 7 March 2026 – Race 7
Jockey J. Lloyd rider of BLACK MINTO pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that shortly after the start, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NIGHTCAPPED resulting in that runner being taken in and bumping with SMELTER which was severely tightened for room, checked and taken in onto NEOCLASSICISM which was bumped and became unbalanced. In issuing the charge, Stewards acknowledged there was a minor shift from the inside runners. Jockey Lloyd’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, commencing midnight Saturday 14th March 2026 and concluding midnight Thursday 26th March 2026. In assessing penalty, account was taken of the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines.
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 5: 9 AUTUNNO – B. Lerena + 0.5kg (56kg)
Race 5: 10 PAPAL MISS – J. Lloyd +0.5kg (56kg)
As jockey J. Bayliss had transport difficulties and was unable to fulfil his engagement in race 1, he was replaced by jockey D. Boche as the rider of PRINCE PHOENIX.
RACE 1:TAB WE'RE ON MAIDEN PLATE 1650M
CONCADOR – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1000m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
MISHANI HERCULES – Near the 400m, put in an awkward stride and brushed the running rail.
OAKFIELD GALAXY – Leaving the 300m, rolled out and bumped COME ON MR SNIPS.
ROCKET THREE – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported his mount was inclined to lay in from the 800m.
COME ON MR SNIPS – Leaving the 300m, bumped by OAKFIELD GALAXY which rolled out. Approaching the 250m, steadied when racing in restricted room and bumped with HOT MISS after being taken out by PRINCE PHOENIX was taken out by SICILIAN WARRIOR (G. Geran) which shifted out when not clear. Jockey G. Geran was severely reprimand pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
FLOP SHOT – Held up for clear running from approaching the 400m until approaching the 300m.
PRINCE PHOENIX – Raced keenly in the early stages. Taken out approaching the 250m by SICILIAN WARRIOR which shifted out. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SICILIAN WARRIOR – Shifted out approaching the 250m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
HOT MISS – Change of tactics; attempt to settle further forward. Settled in a midfield position. Approaching the 600m, raced in restricted room and was steadied between ROCKET THREE which laid in and COME ON MR SNIPS which shifted out marginally. Near the 250m, bumped heavily by COME ON MR SNIPS and became unbalanced.
RAZOR'S MAGIC – Over raced in the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn.
EMPRESS ASPEN – Raced wide for the majority.
RACE 2: QLD JEWEL RACEDAY MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
DAFFERS was declared a late scratching at 2:04pm after becoming fractious when Apprentice O. Kendal was attempting to mount the mare, resulting in DAFFERS becoming loose and galloping for some distance before being captured.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DAFFERS be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - MAJESTIC LOUVRE – 3c win, 4c place.
2nd - INSAIN LADY – 6c place.
3rd - TREFOIL – 5c place.
Trainer R. Chatterton was advised DAFFERS must officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a minor laceration to its rump.
CHOP CHOP GO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making heavy contact with a rail in the mounting enclosure and was cleared to start. Trainer R. Beaton was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its pre-race manners.
ROCKABILLY (NZ) – Near the 900m, steadied when tightened for room by MAJESTIC LOUVRE (B. Lerena) which shifted in when not clear. Jockey B. Lerena was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey A. Mallyon stated his mount travelled comfortably but when placed under pressure, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the geldings near foreleg.
RANCOUR – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
REVA'S CHOICE – Raced wide throughout.
TREFOIL – Slow to muster early speed.
RACE 3: BOOK A RACEDAY RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1200M
EXOFLOW – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
MAYBE – Laid in over the concluding stages.
LUCKY LASS – Slow into stride.
MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
HAPPY WINS – Raced keenly in the early stages.
RACE 4: TAB LIVE VISION BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200M
DISSELATION – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 800m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced in close proximity with I'M ZAC over the concluding stages.
THE HAMO – Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor advised the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cast its off fore plate and removed a part of its off fore heel bulb. Co-Trainer W. Hulbert advised it is the intention to send the gelding for a spell.
I'M ZAC – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Near the 150m, Jockey A. Mallyon dropped his offside rein and was unable to regather it until after passing the winning post. Raced in close proximity with DISSELATION over the concluding stages. Cast its off-fore plate in running.
KEIKO SAY – Slow into stride.
RACE 5: OWNERS PAVILION @ JEWEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 2450M
JUSTICE SERVED – Blundered at the start. Raced wide for the majority.
TEWKESBURY – Steadied after improving onto heels approaching the winning post on the first occasion. Bumped with LIKEABEEL on a number of occasions in the home straight. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported the gelding was not suited to the slow tempo of the race.
WILL IT SNOW (NZ) – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
LIKEABEEL – Bumped with REVELAIDE at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and bumped with TEWKESBURY on a number of occasions.
GIDDY GAN'S JOY – Change of tactics; to be ridden further back than its previous start. Settled at the rear. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in near the 400m and again in the home straight when placed under pressure. Jockey J. Taylor reported the mare hung in at various stages during the event, proving difficult to ride. Trainer S. Foster was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for its racing manners.
REVELAIDE – Bumped with LIKEABEEL at the start. Raced keenly in the middle stages before being allowed to stride forward to take up the lead near the 1000m. Apprentice C. Baker advised it wasn’t her intention to lead, however the gelding raced very keenly in the early and middle stages and for this reason leaving the 1200m, she allowed her mount to stride forward rather than restrain.
AUTUNNO – Near the 400m, checked when tightened for room to the inside of PAPAL MISS which was taken in by JUSTICE SERVED which was taken in by VERMILION KIRIN which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
PAPAL MISS – Leaving the 400m, tightened for room and checked when taken in by JUSTICE SERVED. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer V. Venkaya was advised PAPAL MISS would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
ALASKA DE LUNE – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
MAURITA – Near the 900m, improved onto heels had to be steadied.
RACE 6: MARCH 15TH GOLD COAST BOWLS & COMMUNITY CLUB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1650M
YUKANUMA – Approaching the 500m, raced in restricted room and was steadied between SHAPE OF WATER and POSSIBILITIES.
RASHFORD – Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor, rider of RASHFORD, pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m (13 in totality). Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, commencing midnight Thursday 12th March 2026 and concluding midnight Thursday 19th March 2026. In assessing penalty, account was taken of the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
SIR BEVERIDGE – Raced wide for the majority.
SHAPE OF WATER – Slow to begin.
POWER ACE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey C. Graham reported her mount was inclined to hang throughout.
VACILLATION – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
POSSIBILITIES – Slow to begin. Laid in rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey A. Mallyon reported the mare was not suited to the tight turning track.
RACE 7: BEAUDESERT ANZAC DAY RACEDAY RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1650M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately 5 minutes when SKORPIOS ISLE was declared a late scratching at 5:12pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious and cast in the barriers.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SKORPIOS ISLE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - LOU VEGA – 20c win, 19c place.
2nd - HOKKAIDO (NZ) – 19c place.
3rd - EFFIE'S JOY – 18c place.
A veterinary examination revealed SKORPIOS ISLE to have blood present in both nostrils, which Stewards were satisfied was attributable to external trauma. Trainer L. Gough was advised SKORPIOS ISLE would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming. Trainer L. Gough was also advised that the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
GAVIN – Near the 300m, blundered and dislodged Apprentice L. Martyn. Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the reasons why Apprentice L. Martyn was dislodged near the 300m. Apprentice Martyn was examined by the QAS officials and transported to hospital for further observations. Apprentice Martyn was advised that she would incur a 12 day stand down as per the QRIC Concussion Protocol and would be required to obtain a medical certificate and complete a satisfactory cognitive test prior to next riding. A post-race veterinary examination of GAVIN revealed no apparent abnormalities.
HOKKAIDO (NZ) – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground.
MARAVICH (IRE) – Inconvenienced near the 300m.
SAVVY BEE (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making heavy contact with the gate leaving the mounting enclosure and was cleared to start. Trainer O. Cairns was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare for its pre-race manners. Taken wider near the 900m by EFFIE'S JOY and raced wide for the remainder. Eased down in the home straight. Jockey D. Thornton reported his mount when placed under pressure, didn’t feel comfortable in its action and for this reason he desisted on pressuring the mare to the finish line. As the horse had been removed from the racecourse prior to the veterinarian being able to examine it, Trainer O. Cairns was advised SAVVY BEE (NZ) would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming. Trainer O. Cairns advised that it is the intention to retire the mare.
BETA BETTER – Inconvenienced near the 300m.
EFFIE'S JOY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Inconvenienced near the 300m. Laid in on the entrance to the home straight.
CAVARETTA – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced near the 300m.
THE WELLIAN – Raced keenly in the early stages.
LOU VEGA – Jockey G. Cartwright reported her mount was inclined to hang out during the event.
LISSARO (NZ) – Inconvenienced near the 300m.
