Race 1: RFDS QTIS Maiden Plate 1200 metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, it was noted on the Stewards patrol footage that the barriers of PINNAROO and LITTLE MISS PEGGY were slow to open. Noting however that these runners were placed 1st and 2nd in the event, there were no grounds upon which Stewards could declare either runner a non-runner and therefore correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

Prior to the next event the barriers were tested and operated without fault.

PINNAROO- Stewards questioned jockey R McMahon in relation to him having a number of looks over his right shoulder approaching and rounding the home turn. Jockey McMahon advised that approaching the home turn he felt his horse was travelling strongly and that PAPARAZZI ROCKET, which was racing to his outside, had commenced to weaken at that point of the race. Jockey McMahon added that with this in mind he did not want to apply full pressure to his mount too early given the long straight and also with his horses form suggesting it would struggle to run out a strong 1200m. Therefore he reasoned that the decision to look to his outside was to observe if any runners had commenced to improve to his outside before having to apply full pressure to his mount. Stewards noted the explanation.

LITTLE MISS PEGGY- Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels in the early stages of the home straight.

PAPARAZZI ROCKET- Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

Race 2: BIRDSVILLE RACES ROADIES Class 3 Plate 1000 metres

PASS THE CARD- Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SPIRIT HOUSE- Hung out for the majority.

VIETTI- Slow to begin.

IMALI- As the mare had not started in a period exceeding 12months, it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the event and passed suitable to race. Slow to begin.

Race 3: VISITBIRDSVILLE.COM Class 3 Plate 1400 metres

SHAME SHAME SHAME- Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SAHAR- Jockey D Rewald was advised by Stewards, that whilst his whip use was in accordance with the rules, in that his whip hand remained on the reins, that he should modify his technique so as to not give the perception that his whip is being used excessively during the event.

Race 4: TAB Class 5 Handicap 1200 metres

KEDLESTON- Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

SILENTUS- Faulted near the 400m and suffered a significant injury to the off-fore leg. Following a Veterinary assessment, the gelding was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds.

Race 5: BIRDSVILLE HOTEL Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres

DALBERGIA- Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground.

DEVIL'S NUMBER- Bumped on jumping and then failed to muster early speed.

DO YOUR BEST- Over raced in the early stages.

MACKENZIE COUNTRY- Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 6: LYNDHURST STUD OPEN Handicap 1200 metres
