GENERAL
 
Due to hot weather conditions, this race meeting was conducted in accordance with the QRIC caring for racing animals in extreme heat policy with pre-race parade times significantly reduced and the establishment of on-course cooling stations in the race-day tie-ups, parade areas and a number of other relevant measures.
 
As Jockey M Gray was injured and not riding at today’s meeting, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary. Jockey Gray was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to next race riding.
 
Due to transport difficulties on route to today’s meeting, MON PIERRE was declared a late scratching from Race 3 at 8.10am.
 
The following horses were declared late scratching’s by Stewards at 3.30pm when there were no riders available to replace Jockey J Baker who was transported to hospital by QAS officers after becoming ill at the completion of Race 3:

Race 5: LEGOLAS
Race 6: DEEP BREATH
 
Race 1: CLARENDEN CATTLE CO. MAIDEN PLATE 3-Y-O & Up 1050 Metres
 
CIRCUS MAXIMUS – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J Missen reported that CIRCUS MAXIMUS began well but was slow to muster speed. Jockey Missen added that the gelding improved during the run and added that in his opinion CIRCUS MAXIMUS will be better suited in races over a further distance than today.
 
REIGNING CAPTAIN – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R Faehr reported that in his opinion REIGNING CAPTAIN didn’t handle today’s tight circuit and was inclined to hang out around the turn between the 800m and the 400m.
 
LA SUERTE – Began awkwardly and shifted in shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
SALTCLAY – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
Race 2: HEWITT QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1050 Metres
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Apprentice Jockey A Meissner to view the footage of the home straight. When Apprentice Meissner and Stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was given on the judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
BOURBON LANE – Shifted in on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FREDDIE EDDIE – Slow to begin and bumped on jumping.
 
OUTBACK STEP – Jumped outwards and bumped FREDDIE EDDIE.
 
TOO MANY KISSES – Disappointed for a run passing the 200m between JUKEBOX LUCY and HIGHGROUND before shifting in to obtain clear running.
 
YEMEAN – Declared a late scratching at 1.45pm after making contact with the outside rail at the 1550m on route to the barriers resulting in Jockey R Faehr being dislodged. After dislodging Jockey Faehr, the mare then galloped riderless around the track until reaching the 1200m where she attempted to jump the outside running rail and fell, resulting in YEMEAN sustaining a fractured near side front leg and consequently the mare was euthanised on humane grounds. Jockey Faehr was examined by the on course QAS Officers and was passed suitable to fulfill his remaining rides.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on YEMEAN be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) - 12c win, 11c place
2nd – HIGHGROUND - 11c place
3rd – TOO MANY KISSES - 11c place
 
EL QUINTO – Began awkwardly and was taken in by BOURBON LANE which shifted in on jumping and inconvenienced FREDDIE EDDIE.
 
CONSORTING ONE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
Race 3: FOREST PARK SANTAS COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP 1050 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed due to the incident in the previous race.
 
WRITTLE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MON PIERRE – Due to transport difficulties on route to today’s meeting, MON PIERRE was declared a late scratching at 8.10am.
 
SINGLE HONOR – After pulling up at the 1200m at the conclusion of the race, Jockey J Baker felt ill and dismounted from SINGLE HONOR in an attempt to regain his breath. Jockey Baker was examined by the on course QAS Officers and was diagnosed as showing signs of heat exhaustion and was transported to hospital for further treatment. Jockey Baker was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to next race riding.
 
THE SQUIRE – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run to the outside of JUST SUPER passing the 100m before shifting in to obtain clear running.
 
TOKYO SINS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
MAMARAGAN – Slow to begin.
 
POWER SISTER – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
UPTURN – Underwent a resaddle at the request of the rider on arrival to the barriers. Raced wide throughout the event. Jockey J Rudd reported that UPTURN raced well in the early stages of the event before commencing to hang out on the home turn. Jockey Rudd added that after he straightened the gelding, UPTURN failed to respond to his riding over the concluding stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 4: SWAN HILL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed due to the previous race starting late and to wait for a replacement ambulance.
 
TURNSTAR – As there were no senior riders available to replace Jockey M Gray, Stewards permitted Apprentice Jockey S Robbins to ride the gelding.
 
BOLD SMUGGLER – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped FLY ON BYE.
 
FLY ON BYE – Bumped on jumping.
 
ALL ENGLAND – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
DEEP FURY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
DELUXE LEGEND – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
GUNBOAT – As Jockey J Baker was ill and unable to fulfill his engagement and there were no other riders available, the gelding was declared a late scratching at 3.30pm and as betting had commenced on the race, prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on GUNBOAT be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – ALL ENGLAND - 19c win, 16c place
2nd – DELUXE LEGEND - 16c place
3rd – TURNSTAR - 16c place
 
Race 5: BULL CREEK CLASS 3 PLATE 3-Y-O & Up 1400 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed due to the previous race starting late.
 
BOYFRIEND MATERIAL – Began awkwardly and made contact with the near side barrier gate.
 
MONEY MAN – As there were no senior riders available to replace Jockey M Gray, Stewards permitted Apprentice Jockey M Mankelow to ride the gelding. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice Mankelow reported that MONEY MAN over raced in the early stages of the event and as a result she was unable to gain a position closer to the rail and was caught in a wider position than she would have liked.
 
ARMSTRONG BAY – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
FERGHANA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HIT 'EM UP – Slow to begin.
 
LEGOLAS – As Jockey J Baker was ill and unable to fulfill his engagement and there were no other riders available, the gelding was declared a late scratching at 3.30pm.
 
WAYFARER'S WAY – Began awkwardly.
 
THE COAT HANGER – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: STRATHMORE SANTA GERTRUDIS BLACKALL CUP/COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP 1400 Metres
