Race 1: RES QTIS CLASS B HANDICAP (SPONSORED BY SEILERS TPT / JIM’S JERKY) 1050 Metres
On return to scale, and on viewing the patrol footage, P. Hamblin, rider of fifth placegetter SAPANA’S PEARL lodged a protest against second past the post IDHANA (Apprentice S. Bailey) and third past the post FRIDAY’S JET (R. Payne) alleging interference near the 100m. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from connections of both runners, Stewards found that passing the 100m, IDHANA shifted out under pressure and almost simultaneously FRIDAY’S JET shifted in under pressure, resulting in SAPANA’S PEARL racing in restricted room for two strides, however bearing in mind the beaten margin’s between the runners, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had to the crowding not occurred to SAPANA’S PEARL, that the mare would have finished ahead of IDHANA or FRIDAY’S JET and therefore the protest was dismissed.
Stewards further considered a protest lodged by Apprentice G. Semmens, rider of fourth placegetter CRAIGLEA BRONTE against second past the post IDHANA (Apprentice S. Bailey), alleging interference over the final 30m. After viewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from connections of both runners, Stewards found that near the 30m, IDHANA shifted in before being corrected by the rider, resulting in G. Semmens momentarily taking hold and CRAIGLEA BRONTE racing in restricted room over the concluding stages, however bearing in mind where the interference occurred, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered by CRAIGLEA BRONTE exceeded the beaten margin between both runners and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judges placing’s.
At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice S. Bailey was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to stop riding and straighten her mounts sooner than she did on both instances on this occasion. Rider R. Payne (FRIDAY’S JET) was advised to exercise care.
DULVERTON CHARM – Checked and lost ground at the start when tightened between KANTAI and FRODASH, which was bumped heavily by FRIDAY’S JET, which jumped out.
IDHANA – Laid in under pressure for the majority of the home straight.
FRODASH – Bumped heavily at the start. Shortly after the start shifted out and away from FRIDAY’S JET and bumped KANTAI which became unbalanced.
ABSOLVE – Raced wide in the early stages. Rider N. Fazackerley reported that the gelding did not handle today’s firmer track conditions.
SAPANA’S PEARL – Raced in restricted room momentarily passing the 100m.
KANTAI – Bumped at the start and again a short distance later and became unbalanced. When asked to comment on the performance, rider W. O’Connell stated that the mare was unable to keep up with the quick pace of the race, adding that KANTAI was not comfortable on today’s firmer track, compared to its recent win on a sand surface.
HVARDANCE – Made the home turn very wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CRAIGLEA BRONTE – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages (30m).
FRIDAY’S JET – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection after not racing since October 2023 and was cleared to race. Jumped out at the start and bumped FRIDAY’S JET. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
Race 2: COMBINED BUISINESS HOUSES OF THE SOUTH BURNETT BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1050 Metres

THE SHARMAN – Raced wide without cover throughout. Bumped near the 100m.
ZENA BOY – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult for apprentice S. Bailey to fully ride her mount out.
SPIRIT FOX – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Apprentice L. Sykes reported at scale that after being slow to begin, the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout and was disappointing, adding that the performance was possibly attributed to the firmer track.
KIRELLA SHORES – Apprentice P. Carter reported that when PERMANANCE shifted out near the 400m, her mount overreacted and shifted out wider on the track and as a result made the home turn extremely wide.
QUARTER RED – Apprentice C. Lowe dropped her whip near the 130m. Shifted out near the 100m and bumped THE SHARMAN.
Race 3: SUZY RACKEMANN MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE (SPONSOR OZ VALUEAG MACHINERY) 1175 Metres

RED VODKA – Slow to begin and lost ground. Race wide in the early stages.
TIME TO TURN – Apprentice I. Jessop reported that her mount was reluctant to stride out for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Trainer B. Murray reported that he would now send the gelding for a spell.
ILEGITIMO – Slow to begin. Rider W. O’Connell was unable to ride his mount out to the line over the concluding stages (40m) when awkwardly placed at the heels of GREAT ANGLES which shifted out slightly.
EL QUINTO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MO’S MARVEL – Raced wide throughout without cover.
Race 4: KEWPIE STOCKFEEDS 2025 BATTLE OF THE BUSH BURRANDOWAN QUALIFIER OPEN PLATE 1175 Metres
JACK BE LUCKY – Bumped shortly after entering the home straight.
MASTERPLAN – Momentarily held up approaching the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, rider N. Fazackerley stated the gelding travelled well, however when placed under pressure from the home turn had failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing.
PESHWA – When the pace eased near the 700m, was steadied from the heels of MASTERPLAN and then raced keenly until passing the 600m. Made the home turn very wide. Laid in despite the effort of the rider shortly after entering the home straight and bumped JACK BE LUCKY. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SON OF SAMPSON – Rider K. Yoshida reported that his mount hung out for a majority of the race. Hung out from the 800m and made the home turn very wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J. Crompton was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding’s racing manners.
GALEKA – Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
Race 5: KELLCO LIVESTOCK AGENTS BURRANDOWAN CUP BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1740 Metres
BONZABELTER – Raced wide until near the 1200m. Approaching the 400m commenced to hang out and shift wide on the track. Approaching the home turn, continued to hang out and as a result forced PROPHET OF BOOM wider on the track until entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer C. Geran was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
CICADA – Commenced to race keenly approaching the winning post on the first occasion and when being restrained became awkwardly placed at the heels of OPTIMUS MAXIMUS near the 1500m and was checked. Leaving the 1300m was checked and lost ground. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards established that CICADA was checked when racing to the inside of OPTIMUS MAXIMUS (Apprentice J. Busuttin), which in turn was racing to the inside of BONZABELTER (W. O’Connell) which was improving forward from a three wide position. Stewards on the available patrol footage were not able to apportion any carelessness on any one rider and reported the circumstances as a racing incident.
PROPHET OF BOOM – Forced extremely wide on the track approaching and rounding the home turn by BONZABELTER which hung out. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Stewards intend to follow up on the performance of PROPHET OF BOOM.
