GENERAL
The following runners were scratched by order of Stewards as no riders were available:

The following overweight was approved by Stewards:

The track surface was raked after races 3 and 4.
Race 1: GORDON LINES MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
LUCKY FORCE – Began awkwardly.
SILENT HOPE – When questioned, apprentice N Palmer advised the filly didn’t handle the heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 2: BRUCE AIR AND ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1100m
TURNSTAR – Fractious in barriers prior to jumping, began awkwardly.
RUSHEEN – Raced wide throughout.
BAG OF WHITT – Trainer W Baker advised the gelding would most likely be sent for a spell.
DECIDER – Very slow to begin. Trainer S Iverson was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for being slow to begin.
TOUGH JUDGE – Blundered on jumping. Approaching 200m, raced awkwardly for a couple of strides, resenting the kickback.
BOSS BANDIT – Very slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Trainer Vivian Jones was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for being slow to begin.
ENERGIZED – Late scratching at 2:08 by order of Stewards when the gelding refused to proceed to the barriers.
All monies invested on ENERGIZED prior to 2:08pm were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
8c in the dollar for the win
9c in the dollar for the place of winner
9c in the dollar for 2nd place
9c in the dollar for 3rd place.
Trainer C Rogers was advised ENERGIZED would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
Race 3: MOODY RACING BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1625m
LEGISLATE – Raced keenly early. Compounded over the concluding stages. Rider, apprentice N Palmer advised Stewards the gelding felt good in its action, however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer W Baker advised the gelding would most likely be sent for a spell.
TIME TO TESTIFY – When questioned, apprentice S Robins advised Stewards when the pace of the race quickened approaching the 600m, the gelding was left flat footed and when asked for an effort, failed to respond.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer W Baker advised the gelding would most likely be sent for a spell.
SAINT MARTIN – Reared on jumping and was slow away. When questioned, rider J Baker advised his mount refused to travel throughout and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities other than losing the off-hind plate in running.
BUGDEN - Bumped on jumping.
SHAMUKA – Blundered on jumping, resulting in rider becoming momentarily unbalanced, then shifted out bumping runners to its outside. Raced wide throughout.
AGRIMONY (GB) - Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. When questioned, rider J Golden advised his mount travelled ok early however started to compound from the 600m and elected to ease his mount out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer A Webb was advised the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Trainer A Webb advised Stewards the mare would like mostly to be retired.
HOWSE – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly early.
VOLDEMORT – Began awkwardly.
Race 4: FRANK CAVANOUGH MEMORIAL QTIS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400m
I PROMISE YOU - Stewards questioned jockey J Baker regarding his vigor over the concluding stages. Jockey J Baker reported that over the final 200m his mount was becoming unbalanced when applying the whip, bearing in mind the heavy weight the mare was carrying he elected ride hand and heels over the concluding stages. Stewards noted his explanation.
PACKAGE – Commenced to buck shortly after the start and took no further part in the race, A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer J Halpin was advised the gelding would need to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
CONTRICK – Slow to begin. Shifter wider approaching the 1000m to avoid kickback.
LASCO – Began awkwardly.
MAKERS – Raced wide throughout.
JAMAICAN – After being loaded into the barriers became momentarily cast and underwent a veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. When questioned, rider M Gray advised the gelding travelled well early however when asked for effort failed to respond, he further added that the track surface may have played a part on the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
MUIRON – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
Race 5: CATTLE CAMP HOTEL NEWMARKET 2025 BATTLE OF THE BUSH QUALIFIER OPEN H’CAP 1200M
HIDDEN EYES - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
KAZZA'S JET – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
WARRAH FLASH – Slow to begin. Stewards inquired into the reasons the pre-race ear muffs, which were red in colour and fitted over the bridle as per standard operating procedures, we’re not removed resulting in the gelding racing in that piece of gear. Starter Mr Evan Brassington advised that direction had been given to the attendant leading the gelding to remove the ear muffs when being loaded however he had not ensured this had occurred prior to initiating the start of the event. Under direction from stewards, Mr Brassington undertook to review the procedures concerning pre race ear muffs at the barriers, with a mind to having that gear removed from any runner immediately upon their arrival at the barriers.
COYNES ROAD – Rider J Baker pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR211(1) in that he did return to scale in excess of .50kg over the gelding’s allotted weight. J baker was subsequently fined $200.
