GENERAL
 
As a result of a complaint Stewards enquired into the alleged riding engagement of Jockey Ms M Kennedy in Race 3 on HOWLER for Trainer M Gavin and being replaced with Jockey S Robbins leading up to this meeting by the trainer. After hearing evidence from all parties Stewards were satisfied that Ms Kennedy was engaged on the horse and as she was unable to gain a ride in that race. Trainer Ms M Gavin by her own admission had made an administration error and “double booked” the respective riders. As a result of the inquiry Stewards ordered Ms Kennedy receive the riders fee as determined by Racing Queensland. Stewards acting under the provision of LR52 subsequently issued a reprimand to Trainer Ms M Gavin.
 
Race 1: RICHARDS ELECTRICAL & AIR SOLUTIONS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
 
NYTHE- Bumped with OAKFIELD MONTANA shortly after the start, tended to lay in while racing in the home straight.
 
PLEA- Began awkwardly. Ran on strongly over the concluding stages. The declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Jockey R Tilley to view the photograph of the finish of the race. After viewing the photo, Jockey Tilley was satisfied with the placings as semaphored by the judges, and correct weight was subsequently declared.
 
SAMURAI WAND- Began awkwardly when it jumped in the air and bumped with FIRE ON ICE then raced towards the rear of the field for some distance, failed to improve into the race despite the best efforts of the rider. Jockey J Rudd advised that once his mount got back it was hard to see due to the kickback and his horse may not have been suited by the racing surface at today’s meeting. Stewards noted Jockey Rudd’s comments. Due to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding Stewards ordered that a post-race veterinary examination be undertaken. This examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards contacted Trainer Mr W Baker and he advised that the gelding had pulled up well post-race.
 
FIRE ON ICE- Began awkwardly when jumping outward at the start and bumped with SAMURAI WAND shortly after the start. Failed to improve into the race despite the best efforts of the rider.
 
TRIBESMAN- Laid in when racing in the home straight.
 
WILLBEKING- Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event.
 
ACRES DESTINY- Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in while racing very wide in the home straight.
 
OAKFIELD MONTANA- Bumped shortly after the start was affected.
 
SPINALONG LASS- Stewards accepted Trainer Mr W Baker explanation regarding his late rider and the time that has elapsed since the filly last raced. Stewards ordered that a pre-race veterinary examination be undertaken, this examination revealed no abnormalities, and the horse was passed fit to race at today’s meeting. Slow to begin and raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Failed to improve into the race despite the best efforts of the rider. Stewards later spoke with Trainer Mr W Baker about the performance of the filly, he advised he was disappointed with the run and would recommend to connections that the filly will be retired. Stewards noted Mr Baker’s comments.
 
Race 2:CATTLE CAMP HOTEL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000M
 
TOY STORY- Began awkwardly. Improved into the race from the 400m and ran on well over the final stages.
 
DREYFUS- Began awkwardly when jumping in the air as the start was affected. Laid out in the home straight, began to weaken over final stages. Stewards ordered a post-race veterinary examination be undertaken when the gelding weakened over the concluding stages. This examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a poor post-race recovery. No further action was required.
 
TILUSSION- Began awkwardly when jumping out at the start. Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority.
 
FOR THE BRAVE- Began awkwardly, failed to improve into the race from the 400m despite the urgings of the rider to do so..
 
VERY GRATEFUL- Slow to begin and raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event.
 
BOSS BANDIT- Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.
 
ZELENKA- Bumped with BOSS BANDIT shortly after the start.
 
SOCCEREW- After being in the leading group during the early stages began to weaken over the final stages of the event.
 
Race 3: JANE BAKER MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M
 
TURNSTAR- Slow into stride and then raced wide for the majority of the event. Tended to lay in while racing in the home straight.
 
LUCKY FORCE- Bumped shortly after the start was affected. Raced in a four wide position while improving into the race in an effort to gain a more forward position and led from the 600m while being restrained.
 
A LOT OF BOOTY- After the event Trainer W Baker advised the horse had some swelling in the offside foreleg and was provided treatment by the attending veterinarian. Under the provision of AR75(2) Stewards ordered that the Trainer obtain a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding racing again.
 
HOWLER- Began awkwardly and then bumped with LUCKY FORCE shortly after the start and then raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, the rider S Robbins sought to view the footage of the start, as she was of the opinion her mount may have been disadvantaged at the start when a barrier attendant had hold of the horse’s main as the start was affected. Stewards inquired into the matter with Starter Mr E Brassington being present. It was established that barrier attendant Mr S Iverson did have hold of the horse’s mane in an effort to keep the head straight on jumping. Stewards considered Mr Iverson’s actions reasonable and ordered that the horse was not denied a fair start and subsequently declared correct weight on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge.
 
Race 4: DOUBLE B CONTRACTING RATING BAND 0-60 HANDICAP 1400M
 
EDWARDS- Slow into stride at the start. Eased off the heels of DUN WITH ROSES while racing keenly approaching the 1300m. Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority and then began to improve into the race from the 300m.
 
IL TORO D’ORO- Raced keenly during the early stages of the event while laying in.
 
THE TERMINATOR- The start of the race was delayed as a result of the horse when leaving the mounting yard proceeded to run fiercely around the track with the rider Ms H Saunders being unable to restrain the gelding. The horse was eventually caught and was later examined by the attending veterinarian. This examination revealed the horse was fatigued and as a result THE TERMINATOR was declared a late scratching at 3.45pm by order of Stewards acting on Veterinary advice. All monies invested on THE TERMINATOR were ordered to be refunded in full, with deductions applicable on bets placed as follows:
Winner- THIRTEENTH MAN- W- 16c and Pl- 14c, 2nd placed horse- IL TORO D’ORO- 14c, 3rd placed horse- DUN WITH ROSES- 14c. Stewards subsequently declared correct weight on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge/s.
 
SEEYALATER GATER- Slow into stride after the start was affected.
 
DUN WITH ROSES- Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event while racing wide. Improved into the race from the 300m point.
 
DAZZINGTON- Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority while racing wide.
 
Race 5: LES BAKER MEMORIAL OPEN HANDICAP 1400M
 
DECIDUOUS- Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
WITHOUT SHAME- While racing in a forward position for the majority of the event began to weaken over the final stages of the event.
 
TRANSCELTIC- Laid in during the early stages of the event. Was able to gain a leading position from the 1200m and raced keenly for some distance while being restrained by the rider.
 
INVINCIBLE RED- Began to improve into the race from the 300m and ran on strongly over the concluding stages.
 
VOLDEMORT- Raced three -wide from the 600m for the remainder of the event.
 
RANGI TOA- Slow to begin. Ran on well over the final stages.
