GENERAL
 
1.    Following 1.2mL of overnight rain, the track was inspected by the Stewards at 6.00 a.m. and deemed to be in suitable condition for racing.
2.    This meeting was conducted under the regulations of the QRIC Caring for Animals Extreme Heat Policy.
3.    Trainer Shryn Royes was fined $100 under LR 67(1) for the late declaration of David Sparks as the rider of ZOUHOPE in Race 8.
4.    Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 8. SUMMER SIZZLING (Michael McDonald) - +0.5kg.
 
Race 1: CENTRAL HOTEL Maiden Plate 1000M

CORVALIST – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
LORD VALEN – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
WEIRD GOODBYES – Bumped with KOUKLITSA on jumping and became unbalanced.
 
CUP OF AMBITION – Bumped on jumping. Failed to muster early speed. Raced very wide throughout. Finished distanced from the field. Rider Chris Whiteley reported at scale that CUP OF AMBITION, which was having its first race start on dirt since transferring stables from Newcastle, was not comfortable with the track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
INSAIN FLAME – Shifted in and bumped CUP OF AMBITION. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
KOUKLITSA – Bumped with WEIRD GOODBYES on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
SKIP A BEAT (NZ) – Proved difficult to load delaying the start. Trainer Tanya Parry was advised that a final warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
HELLUVAPUNCH – Slow into stride.
 
Race 2: CLONCURRY & DISTRICT RACE CLUB QTIS CLASS 1 Handicap 1200M

HURRICANE HARLOW – Began very awkwardly resulting in rider Denicious Smith becoming unbalanced. Finished distanced from the field. Rider Denicious Smith reported at scale that HURRICANE HARLOW, which was having its first race start on dirt, was not comfortable with the conditions today. Trainer Tanya Parry was advised not to start the mare until she is satisfied that HURRICANE HARLOW would race competitively.
 
LUCKY NEKO – Laid in under pressure through the early part of the straight.
 
DAWN EMBERS – Shifted out shortly after the start bumping GOT THIS. Hampered nearing the 800 metres when SECRET BOOM shifted in. Resented the kickback in the middle stages and lost ground momentarily between the 650 – 550 metres.
 
SECRET BOOM – Over-raced in the initial stages. Approaching the 800 metres, while being eased away from the heels of LUCKY NEKO, shifted in hampering DAWN EMBERS, which lost ground.
 
TENGUN ANNIE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure nearing the 200 metres resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
 
GOT THIS – Bounded on jumping. Bumped shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the preliminary stages. Raced wide throughout. Rider Adam Sewell reported that GOT THIS was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
 
TORQUE OF DREAMS – Proved difficult to load. Trainers’ representative John Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners. Laid in under pressure over the final 50 metres and had to be steadied.
 
Race 3: JBS AUSTRALIA ‘THE AVIATOR’ QTIS Class 1 Handicap 1200M
 
BAILE FERVOR – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
MAKEMINEMILO – Bumped on jumping. Heavily resented the kickback in the middle stages. Shifted in abruptly nearing the 500 metres and became awkwardly placed on the heels of HOT FLAMINGO, losing ground. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted today, rider Micheal McDonald advised that after being hampered on jumping and then settling further back than intended, the gelding resented the kickback throughout the race before finishing the race off fairly. Explanation was noted.
 
IMMINENT BOOM – Shifted in on jumping taking HOT FLAMINGO in onto MAKEMINEMILO. WHISKEY RIVER was also crowded in this incident. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
 
RED SUTURE – Raced wide throughout.
 
EXTREMELY FRILLY – Raced wide throughout.
 
GEOFF AND JENNY – Shifted out abruptly on jumping bumping with RED SUTURE. Raced wide throughout.
 
HOT FLAMINGO – Taken in onto MAKEMINEMILO on jumping.
 
WHISKEY RIVER – Crowded shortly after the start. Shifted wider leaving the 200 metres to continue to improve.
 
Race 4: BILL CREEK BEEF COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN Handicap 1000M

MR METRICS – Trainer Shryn Royes was fined $100.00 under the provisions of AR 106(1) for presenting MR METRICS to race without blinkers, which were part of the declared gear. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to race. MR METRICS was declared a late scratching at 2:17pm after refusing to load into the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on MR METRICS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st YOUR TOO GOOD 26c win, 22c place
2nd COCHRANE 25c place
 
Trainer Shryn Royes was advised that MR METRICS must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
COCHRANE – Over-raced throughout when leading.
 
SANTORINI SUN – Began very awkwardly and was slow away as a result.
 
Race 5: BENTLEYS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1400M
 
PANDA DRUM – Bumped on jumping.
 
THE TYLER – Laid in under pressure through the early part of the home straight.
 
FAR REACHING – Began awkwardly then taken out on jumping after being hampered by THE BOI. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
LEGAL CHALLENGE – When questioned on the disappointing performance, rider Wanderson D’Avila stated that LEGAL CHALLENGE failed to hold a position in the preliminary stages and resented the kickback after settling at the back of the field. Rider D’Avila stated that once LEGAL CHALLENGE was shifted wide in the straight out of the kickback the gelding ran home fairly. Rider D’Avila advised connections that LEGAL CHALLENGE may be better placed on tracks with grass surfaces. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Raced wide throughout.
 
THE BOI – Shifted out on jumping hampering FAR REACHING, which was taken out onto PANDA DRUM, which was bumped. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in near 200 metres and had to be straightened by its rider.
 
WOLF POINT – Slow to begin.
 
SHEZ LETHAL – Began awkwardly. Resented the kickback in the middle stages. When questioned on the performance, Apprentice rider Maddie Mankelow stated that SHEZ LETHAL hung out in the middle stages and lost ground at that point, adding that the mare tends to drop the bit in the middle stages of all three races prior when she rode the mare. Apprentice rider Mankelow stated that once SHEZ LETHAL was shifted wide in the straight out of the dusty kickback the mare then ran home fairly.
 
SUPERSTELLAR – Began awkwardly.
 
BEGORRA – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 6: EXPLORE PROPERTY MUNRO & CO BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1000M

The start of Race 6 was delayed 15 minutes to allow on-track medical staff to attend to Rider Anna Bakos-Schrapel.
 
NORTHUMBRIA – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
KWIK AS HELL – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
 
CURRY LEGEND – Stewards granted permission for CURRY LEGEND to race without blinkers due to the gelding becoming fractious behind the barriers, with the blinkers unable to be re-applied. Began very awkwardly and got its head up on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
OLIGARCHY – OLIGARCHY was declared a late scratching at 3:26pm after striking the mounting yard exit gate when being ridden onto the track, dislodging rider Anna Bakos-Schrapel, who sustained a left leg injury and was unable to fulfill her engagement. Rider Bakos-Schrapel was attended to by on-track medical staff and transported to hospital for further observations. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on OLIGARCHY be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st VONK 1c win, 2c place
2nd NORTHUMBRIA 1c place
3rd ITHINKBETTA 2c place
 
BASQUE – Shifted in on jumping bumping with KWIK AS HELL. Rider Wanderson D’Avila reported that he felt uncomfortable with the gelding’s action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
SMASHING ROSIE – When questioned regarding the performance of SMASHING ROSIE, which finished distanced from the field, rider Jason Missen stated that after beginning on terms with the field, the mare failed to muster speed in the initial stages. After settling at the rear of the field, SMASHING ROSIE began to heavily resent the kickback and lost considerable ground, with rider Missen stating that he had encountered vision problems from the kickback. Given all circumstances, including SMASHING ROSIE’S first run on dirt, a warning was placed on the mare’s racing manners and Trainer Toni Schofield was advised not to start the mare until she is satisfied that SMASHING ROSIE would race competitively.
 
HELLARAMA – Stewards granted permission for HELLARAMA to race without a tongue tie due to the gelding becoming fractious behind the barriers, with the tongue tie unable to be re-applied. Momentarily crowded shortly after the start. Rider Shane McGovern was dislodged after the winning post while pulling up HELLARAMA. Rider McGovern was assessed by medical staff and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
 
MR KOBO – Raced wide throughout.
 
SNIPPILICIOUS – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages, resulting in rider Brooke Stower having to stop riding and straighten her mount on several occasions.
 
Race 7: THYNNE MACARTNEY Class 6 Handicap 1200M
 
CENTRE BOUNCE – Very slow to jump away and when doing so contacted the barriers. Lost its off-side fore plate/pad in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the offside fore hoof. With the racing plate and pad being cast in running the veterinary surgeon reported that an abscess was now visible. Trainer Terry Hall was advised that CENTRE BOUNCE would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
HURRICANE THUNDER – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
LAST DITCH EFFORT – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
Race 8: HALLMARK TRAILERS COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER/CLONCURRY CUP OPEN Handicap 1600M
 
TESTATOR SILENS – Began awkwardly then shifted out crowding CACOFONIX. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted today, in particular the sustained pressure he applied in the middle stages to leader Metal Bar (D Smith), rider Matthew Gray stated that he had been instructed to ride forward on TESTATOR SILENS as is normal practice and lead. He advised that after being unable to head METAL BAR, TESTATOR SILENS commenced to pull hard and overrace and he was unable to settle the gelding in the middle stages. Jockey M Gray’s explanation was noted.
 
DIVINE OKAY – Raced wide in the middle stages.
 
CACOFONIX – Crowded for room shortly after the start.
 
METAL BAR – When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted today, rider Denicious Smith stated that he had been given instructions to race forward as is the usual racing pattern for the gelding however after beginning well, leading and being pressured by TESTATOR SILENS in the early and middle stages , he stated that METAL BAR was comfortable leading and racing on the bit and that he had no intention of surrendering the lead to TESTATOR SILENS in the middle stages. Jockey D Smiths explanation was noted.
 
 
REVVED UP READY – Raced wide throughout.
 
BENEVENTO – Leaving the 250 metres, became unbalanced and blundered, losing ground. Rider Jason Missen reported that BENEVENTO did not appreciate the kickback and elected not to persevere with the gelding when a beaten runner over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
BREAKING GROUND – Raced wide throughout.
 
SUMMER SIZZLING – Raced wide throughout.
 
THE LAST CRUSADE – Shifted out shortly after the start bumping with ZOUHOPE.
 
ZOUHOPE – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
