Due to restrictions that had been placed on trainer A. Bailey’s trainers licence, his runners for today’s meeting were not permitted to start.

Jockey L. Tilley did not attend today’s meeting due to injury. Jockey Tilley will be required to provide a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding.
 
Jockey F. Edwards was unable to attend to attend today due to personal reasons.
 
Riding replacements for both jockeys were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
 
Race 1: Vellacorp Painting Services Maiden Plate – 950m
 
ELECTRIC SHOCK – Slowly away. Raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
 
GOOD AS DONE – Shifted in on jumping, bumping heavily with another runner.
 
MBWALI – Slowly into stride after being bumped heavily by another runner on jumping.
 
MAITRE DEE – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
REVERBERATING – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
EVIE CAT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.  On return to the enclosure was found to have its tongue over the bit. Trainer P. Rowe advised he may implement a gear change prior to the filly’s next race start.
 
Race 2: Suprimo Cairns QTIS 3yo Class 2 H’cap – 950m
 
UPTOWN TOFF – Slowly into stride after shifting in on jumping and bumping another runner.
 
BUNDY BOY – Slowly into stride after being bumped by another runner. Had to be steadied when crowded for room near the 600m. Brushed the running rail approaching the 500m.
 
SARAH’S GIRL – Near the 600m shifted in, crowding another runner. Soon after became unbalanced after making contact with the running rail. Apprentice A. Thomson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
TAWHIRI – Had to be restrained off heels near the 200m to obtain clear running. Raced greenly when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
JUEUN IN NEW YORK – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 3: Carlton Mid Open H’cap – 950m
 
GINGER SNAP – Fractious in the barriers.
 
SABA LASS – Slowly away. Was accidentally struck on 2 occasions by another rider’s whip approaching the winning post.
 
GREEN ANCHOR – Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn and down the running, placing jockey B. Pengelly at a disadvantage.
 
MEGA D’ORO – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m, inconveniencing another runner. Jockey D. Simmons was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
I WANNA BREAK FREE – Had to be steadied when placed in restricted toom approaching the 200m.
 
 
Race 4: Red Beret Hotel Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1900m
 
A protest was lodged on return to scale  by jockey K. Stone, rider of the 3rd placegetter, BARWON, against LUVYA BEAK  (A.Thomson) being declared 2nd on the grounds of interference  in the home straight. It was established on the evidence provided by connections and and after viewing the patrol footage that  LUVYA BEAK had commenced to lay in passing the 200m despite the efforts of  apprentice A. Thomson, crowding the running of BARWON and SHORT TERM. LUVYA BEAK continued to lay in for the remainder of the race, causing further crowding to BARWON approaching the winning post. As stewards could not be satisfied that the interference to BARWON had cost it in excess of the beaten margin of 2 lengths, stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers. Apprentice Thomson was nonetheless advised that she would be expected to make a better effort to straighten her mount in similar circumstances.
 
AESOP – Slowly away. Raced wide in the middle stages.
 
HOTEL HILLTOP – Slowly into stride.
 
ROYAL SUPREME – Slowly into stride. Raced wide in the early stages. Raced ungenerously passing the 1400m.
 
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason why ROBABANK (B Thomson) had to be checked approaching the 100m.
 
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for jockey S. Kaya being dislodged from PLATINUM PULSE after passing the winning post. Jockey Kaya who was attended by on-course paramedics was transported to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment to a suspected rib injury and was released later in the day.
 
Race 5: Hire A Hubby Bayview Class 3 Plate - 1400m
 
The start of this race was delayed whilst stewards awaited the arrival of a second ambulance to transport jockey S. Kaya to Cairns Base Hospital.
 
WHILE WE CAN – Slowly away.
 
POLAR BLAST – Began awkwardly causing jockey B. Pengelly to become unbalanced.
 
CELESTIAL JEWEL – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
HOT TOP – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Shifted wider at the 800m.
 
PROANE – Taken wider by another runner near the 800m. Raced wide for the remainder of the race.  
 
Race 6: Jap Motor & Carby Centre Class 6 Plate – 1250m
 
PARTY PIES – Slowly away.
 
THE GREATEST – Slow into stride after being tightened for room soon after jumping.
 
GLOBAL GURU – Slowly away. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
LITTLE RED CORVETE – Slowly into stride after beginning awkwardly. On returning to the enclosure the gelding was found to have bled from both nostrils in running.  As this was the first occasion on which the horse has bled,  it will now be banned from racing for a period of 3 months, and must perform a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward  before being permitted to race again.
 
OUR SINGLE DOUBT – Was inclined to lay in over the final 200m, proving difficult to ride for apprentice A. Thomson.
 
 
Race 7: Mortgage Choice Cairns F&M Class 1 Plate – 1250m
 
UNDERCOVER GIRL – Declared a late scratching at 4.25 pm after refusing to load. Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered the following deductions applicable:
 
1 cent in the dollar on the face value of win bets
1 cent in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win
2 cent in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
21 cent in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
 
Connections were advised that the mare would be required to obtain one further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to again start in a race
 
POET’S MOMENT – Reluctant to load, delaying the start. Trainer A. Ryan was advised that a warning would be place on the mare’s barrier manners.
 
METAZOA – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
STARENA – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 8:  Mark Dodge Motoring CG&E Class 1 Plate -  1250m
 
FLYING FERO – Slowly away after shifting out on jumping and inconveniencing another runner.
 
CENTRE RED – Inconvenienced on jumping by another runner and shifted out.
 
LITTLE GUN – Slowly away.
 
SOUND INVESTMENT – Slowly away after beginning awkwardly. Unable to muster pace in the early stages.
 
ROTHSTOCK’N’BELLA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
YANKEE ROLLER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
SAMBA RIO – Laid in in under pressure down the running.
 
PERFECTIONIST – Hung in under pressure in the home straight, placing jockey C. Whiteley at a disadvantage.
