As P. Romeo was not riding at today’s meeting due to suspension, he was replaced as per the Stewards Summary Sheet
 
Race 1: Interline Class 6 Plate – 950m  
 
CLASSIC RECORDS – Declared a late scratching at 12.10 pm by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice after escaping from its handler and slipping over. A veterinary examination  revealed the horse to have suffered lacerations  to its off-side front leg. Trainer S. Messingham was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided before the horse would be permitted to race again.
 
OUR ALICIA’S LANE – Turned its head to the off-side as the start was effected, beginning very awkwardly and losing considerable ground. Trainer B. Williams was advised that a warning would be place on the horse’s barrier manners.
 
DANCING DIVA – Began awkwardly. Shifted in near the 500m, making contact with the inside running rail.
 
 
Race 2:  Cairns Colonial Club Open H’cap – 1400m  
 
MAN AROUND TOWN – Raced fiercely in the early stages and shifted out near the 1200m, forcing CRAIGLEA HALO and HOT SAGA wider on the track.
 
CRIMSON HALO – Forced wider near the 1200m.  Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward and obtaining a position on the rail near the 1000m.
 
HOT SAGA – Forced wider near the 1200m. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
FASTCAR – Made the 1000m turn awkwardly.
 
CRAIGLEA ALDI – Made the 1000m turn awkwardly.
 
 
Race 3:  Salt House QTIS 2yo and 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1250m  
 
RESADOWSKA – Jockey S. Wilson replaced jockey P. Romeo as the rider of the horse.  Slow to begin. Tightened between runners on jumping. Faltered badly near the 600m and was retired from the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have fractured its near fore fetlock and in this incident suffered a bleeding attack. Due to the extent of the injuries, RESADOWSKA was euthanized on humane grounds, and a swab sample was taken.
 
JACK DERIPPA – Bumped by another runner at the start, which began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
CRAIGLEA ESKIMO – Hampered by another runner, which shifted in at the start.
 
UPTOWN TOFF – Blundered badly on jumping and shifted in, bumping heavily with another runner, causing rider S. Kaya to become unbalanced and be dislodged. After being examined by the ambulance officers, jockey Kaya was cleared on injury and able to fulfil his further engagements.
 
TRIGGER – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start. Hampered by the riderless horse near the 600m and had to be restrained.
 
 
Race 4: Cairns City Palms QTIS 2yo and 3yo Maiden H’cap – 950m  
 
The start of this race was delayed due to matters arising out of Race 3.
 
LOVES WOGER WING – Jockey W. D’Avila, replaced  jockey P. Romeo. Made the 800m crossing awkwardly and was steadied when crowded for room.
 
LUNCH WITH COOPS – Slow to begin.
 
SHE STRYKES IT – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider C. Whitely was at a loss to explain the run and advised the horse felt well in its action, however failed to stretch out at any stage of the race. Stable representative R. Ryan unable to explain the performance and was very disappointed. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Connections were advised that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
 
WEE WILLIE MAC – Began awkwardly. Shifted in near the 800m, crowding runners to its inside. Rider A. Thomson was advised to exercise more care.
 
MISSION ROAD – Crowded for room near the 800m and was steadied. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
MULLIGANS – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
GO JABBA – Bumped by another runner at the start. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
 
Race 5: Mortgage Choice Class 2 Plate – 950m  
 
LITTLE GUN – Was declared a late scratching at 3.26 pm by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.  Trainer K. Mears was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance for the runner, which had swelling in its off front tendon, before being permitted to race again.
 
FRED’S GIFT – Delayed the start further when declared a late scratching at 3.29 pm after breaking through the front of barriers riderless and galloping a considerable distance.  Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse at 3.29 pm.  On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on the scratchings and all bets made prior to 3.26 pm were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions:
 
4 cents in the dollar for win bets
4 cents in the dollar for place bets for the win
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place bets
10 cents in the dollar on 3rd place bets.
 
And all bets made between 3.26 pm and 3.29 pm:
 
1 cent in the dollar for win bets
2 cents in the dollar for place bets for the win
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place bets
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place bets
 
Trainer N. Dale was advised he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the horse prior to its next race start.
 
Following the running of this race the remaining 2 races were rescheduled, with Race 6 to start at 4.33 pm and Race 7 at 5.07 pm.
 
 
 
Race 6: AJ Hackett Cairns Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1250m  
 
I’M NOT SURE – Slow to begin.
 
TESTATIME – Slow to begin.
 
KUPER – Tailed off during the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer A. Bailey was advised the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
 
BANSHEE JET – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
COUNT CUMANI – Found to have bled during the race. Trainer’s representative R. Ryan was advised the horse would be banned from racing for a period of 3 months and would be required to perform in a 1000m gallop to the satisfaction of stewards prior to resuming racing again.
 
 
Race 7: T. Rowe Racing Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1500m  
 
STRADA GRANDE – Began awkwardly.  Checked near the 400m when tightened for room. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
THE FOX EFFECT – Rider S. Pawsey pleaded guilty to a charge under 131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of STRADA GRANDE (W. D’Avila), which had to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey Pawsey’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 25 May 2019 and up to and  including 2 June 2019. In considering penalty, stewards took into account his guilty plea and exemplary record in regards to this rule. 
 
ZERO SECRETS – Apprentice Adin Thompson was cautioned over his use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
TOFF ROCKS – Rider C. Whitely was admonished for his use of the whip prior to the 100m.
