General
Prior to the commencement of the race meeting Stewards consulted with Jockeys and the cutaway rail which was positioned from the 325m to the winning post was relocated to a position from the 310m to the winning post.  
 
Race 1: First Class Accounts Cairns Maiden H’cap – 1400m
 
The start of this race was delayed due to the ambulance arriving late on course.
 
ZAHBAY – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 8.48 am when the horse sustained an injury to its off-side hip in transit. Trainer G Holt was advised a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the horse being permitted to race again.
 
NOIR JACK – Slowly away.
 
FURE – Raced wide rounding the 1000m turn taking another runner wider.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
BRANDS HATCH – Slowly away.
 
SAN JOAQUIN – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Jockey N. Day was fined $500 for using his whip 10 times prior to the 100m, 2 in  consecutive strides.
 
IL PRINCIPE – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
TAVEUNI – Taken wider by another runner at the 1000m turn. Jockey Z. White was fined the sum of $300 for using her whip 9 times prior to the 100m.
 
RAW INSTINCT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
 
Race 2: Salt House QTIS 2yo & 3yo Maiden H’cap - 1250
 
DE CARLO – Slowly away after beginning awkwardly.
 
MS SPICY - Slowly away after beginning awkwardly.
 
FLAG RAISER – Slowly away. Restrained when crossed by another runner near the 1000m.
 
CHARLI BELLA – Slowly away. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
AMELIA’S RAINBOW -  Slowly away after blundering on jumping.
 
LOVE OVER GOLD – Raced ungenerously between the 800m and 500m.
 
BEAT IT – Jockey G. Kliese  was fined $300 for using his whip 8 times prior to the 100m, with some consecutive.
 
JUST A LOVE SONG – Performed below market expectations. Was examined by the veterinary surgeon post race with no abnormalities reported. Neither trainer A Molino or jockey F Edwards were able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A post race swab sample was obtained.
 
 
Race 3: Cairns Business Insurance Brokers Class 2 H’cap – 1250m
 
SPEED EIGHT -  Slowly away.
 
HASTY HEART – Fractious in the barriers. Jockey B. Thomson advised stewards that the saddle slipped back, placing her at a disadvantage in being able to fully test the mare over the concluding stages.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MONKEY MAGIC – Inconvenienced  near the 1000m.
 
BORELLA -  Restrained off heels near the 1000m turn. Raced ungenerously passing the 600m.
 
MIKEYS TURF – Slowly away.
 
VAN GAAL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 

Race 4:  The Hambledon Hotel Class 2 H’cap – 1250m
 
TUTELAGE – Tightened between runners on jumping.
 
FINAL WARNING – Shifted out on jumping. Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post, bumping with another runner.
 
AT DUSK – Shifted in on jumping.
 
LANSALA – Lost ground on jumping
 
SET TO SIZZLE – Restrained off heels when overracing near the 700m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
DEIGO BAY – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages. Shifted in under pressure approaching the winning post, bumping with another runner. Raced wide for the majority of the race
 
 
Race 5: Pacific Radiator Services Benchmark 69 H’cap – 1250m
 
CINNAMON MISSILE – Slowly away after being tightened for room. Restrained  across heels near the 800m, bumping with another runner.
 
SAXOPHONE – Inconvenienced near the 800m crossing. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
NARDA SHAR – Jumped outwards at the start.
 
LORD ARCHER – jumped inwards at the start. Bumped by another runner near the 800m.
 
PURE REBEL – Buffeted between runners on jumping. Restrained off heels near the 600m.
 
DIVINE SERVICE – Slowly away after being inconvenienced on jumping. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
DREAM I CAN – Made the 800m crossing awkwardly, commencing to overrace, inconveniencing another runner to its outside. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
HAPPY HOOVES – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Jockey Z. White was fined $300 for using her whip 8 times prior to the 100m.
 
Race 6: Trinity Links Resort Benchmark 69 H’cap – 950m
 
GINGER BEER – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages, having to be restrained off heels.
 
HOT SHOT HARRY – Raced tight with another runner soon after straightening. Approaching the 200m shifted out when placed under further pressure, hampering that runner. Jockey A Holt was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
HARD YAGA – Was racing tight with another runner soon after straightening and did so for some distance in the home straight before being hampered near the 200m.  Jockey S. Wilson reported the gelding had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the off hind leg. Trainer T Rowe was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to next start.
 
BON TEMPS – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
EXCEEDINGLY KOOL – Hung out rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 7: Corey Machan Sheetmetal Open H’cap – 1400m
 
ROCK SPUR – Slowly into stride after bumping with another runner on jumping. Had to be restrained off heels near the 600m.
 
SCHERZOSO – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
 
SILENT EXPLORER – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. When questioned, jockey C. Whiteley advised he had elected to restrain his mount early in an effort to take a sit off the pace and it overraced as a result. He added that he had attempted to follow BUXTON into the race from the 600m and the horse finished the race off fairly, however SILENT EXPLORER had not been suited by the slow tempo of the race. Trainer S Massingham advised his instructions were to attempt to settle the gelding off the pace and avoid being caught inside runners. Mr Massingham was also of the opinion the slow pace had worked against SILENT EXPLORER, however he was disappointed with the ride. Stewards will inquire further into the matter when details of wagering on the event have been examined.
 
BUXTON – Shifted in under pressure near the 200m. Rider C. Jokic accidentally struck another runner with her whip at that point of the race.
 
STRYKE ROCK – Had to be restrained off heels in the middle stages. Was hampered when accidentally struck by another rider’s whip near the 200m.
 
Race 8: Jayco Ciarns Ratings Band 0-65 H’cap – 1400m
 
VAMPARINA – Broke through the barriers after being loaded and galloped a short distance.  A veterinary examination cleared the mare to start. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
FOXY FELINE – Fractious in the barriers.
 
I’M NOT SURE – Slowly away.
 
MISS DEFIANCE – Slowly away. Bumped with another runner soon after jumping. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ANARCHY – Slowly away. Bumped with another runner soon after jumping.
 
BANK TELLER – Slowly away. Inconvenienced soon after jumping. Restrained off heels near the 1000m.
 
RUBY RED SOCKS - Began awkwardly. Restrained in the early stages in an effort to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail.
 
SWEET TASTE – Held up momentarily approaching the home turn. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
PURRHAPS – Raced in restricted room near the 100m when disappointed for clear running.
 
 
Race 9: Kerbing NQ Pty Ltd Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1900m
 
GROOVY PLAYMATE – Slowly away.
 
RESORT – Slowly away. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
RED PHANTOM – Slowly into stride. Restrained off heels near the 1700m. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
BARWON – Slowly into stride after being inconvenienced soon after the start.
 
MT PETER MISS – Shifted out soon after the start.
 
PLEASURE BOM – Became awkward after making contact with the running rail near the 1000m.
 
MOSEF – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M Geaney advised in his opinion the gelding had not been suited by the tight circuit, and   had come to the end of its preparation, and would now be spelled.
