Race 1: ROD SKAINES Maiden Handicap 950m

OUR BOY BRETT – Began awkwardly.

REFUTATION – Was declared a late scratching at 1:53pm after becoming cast in the barrier. Trainer S. D’Avila was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance and be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies wagered on REFUTATION be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed on the event prior to 1:53pm be subject to the following deductions:
1st placed STELLAMOON 28 cents win/36 cents place
2nd placed NORAH 12 cents place
3rd placed MACKENZIE WILL DO 36 cents place in the dollar on the face value of the betting ticket.
Jockey W. D’Avila was examined by QAS Officers and cleared fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

DEECATH – Shifted out near the 450m taking another runner wider. Inconvenienced near the 100m by another runner which shifted out under pressure.

MCKENZIE WILL DO – Bumped heavily with another runner soon after the start. Shifted in near the 850m when not fully clear of another runner which had to be restrained. Apprentice R. Shred was severely reprimanded for careless riding. AR131(a). Had to be restrained off heels near the 400m

MISS HINTERLAND – Slowly away after beginning awkwardly.

SERENE MELODY – Buffeted between runners soon after jumping. Shifted out under pressure near the 100m inconveniencing a runner to its outside.

WRONGLY ACCUSED – Resuming after a prolonged absence from racing. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. After beginning awkwardly, bumped heavily with another runner. Had to be restrained near the 800m when a runner to its outside shifted in when not fully clear to do so. Taken wider by another runner near the 450m.

Race 2: 100 CLUB CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP ON SALE OPEN Handicap 950m

POLAR BLAST – Laid in in the home straight proving difficult to ride.

TRUCULENT – Began awkwardly.

LITTLE STRYKER – Over-raced in the early stages. Bumped heavily with another runner approaching the winning post.

DANCING DIVA – Bumped heavily with another runner approaching the winning post.

Race 3: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 950m

LIMERICK MOON – Raced wide for the majority.

GINGER BEER – Began awkwardly.

SHROUDED – Raced wide for the majority.

SER SER SCHON – Slowly away. Raced ungenerously passing the 100m. Jockey W D’Avila reported the W bit had shifted in the mare’s mouth in running, causing him difficulty over the concluding stages. Trainer S Cooper advised he will consider implementing a gear change prior to next start.

SIMEULUE – Jockey A. Sewell was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR227(a) in that he sent the incorrect saddle cloth number with his saddle after weighing out. When questioned in relation the improved performance, Trainer J. Hare advised Stewards that the mare, which was having its 2nd start for her stable, had worked pleasingly leading into to today’s event. She further added that SIMEULUE would be restricted to racing over shorter distances in the immediate future.

FINDLETON – App E. Cass who was to be overweight was replaced by Jockey D. Smith as the rider of the gelding. App Cass who was subsequently replaced in a further 3 races on the program was fined the sum of $500 under the provisions of AR190(3). In determining penalty Stewards were considerate of App Cass’ personal circumstances. Raced wide for the majority.

Race 4: ZARRAFFA'S COFFEE CAIRNS SHOWGROUND QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 950m

ASPEN LAD – Was hampered over the concluding stages by anther runner which was shifting ground outwards under pressure.

ENDORSE – Shifted ground outwards under pressure over the concluding stages, hampering a runner to its outside. Apprentice Z. Lloyd was reminded of his obligation to stop riding and straighten his mount under similar circumstances.

ROBIG – Slowly into stride.

CAT IN THE RAINE – App E. Cass who was to be overweight was replaced by Jockey D. Smith as the rider of the filly.

Race 5: PEDDLE THORP FAR NORTH Class 6 Plate 1250m

MAKARIOS – Raced wide for the majority.

ROTHMAN – Raced ungenerously for a short distance soon after the start. Jockey B. Pengelly was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m. Jockey Pengelly was also cautioned in relation to his use of the whip forward of the saddle.

CASH RAIDER – Slowly away. Restrained off the heels of another runner near the 900m. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey J. Stanley advised that his whip be came entangled in the gelding’s mane in the early part of the home straight.

DEVIL'S LAIR – Slowly away.

OUR CHIQUILLA – App E. Cass who was to be overweight was replaced by Jockey S Wilson as the rider of the mare. Shifted out rounding the first turn inconveniencing another runner. Raced ungenerously for some distance in the middle stages.

SCHILL ROCK YOU – Raced ungenerously for some distance at the 1000m turn. Post-race was found to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer T. Rowe, who advised Stewards that it is now the intention to retire the mare from racing, was nonetheless advised the mandatory 3 months ban would apply and a satisfactory gallop of 1000m in the presence of a Steward would be required prior to the mare again being permitted to start in a race.

Race 6: CURRENCY SERVICES (AUST) FOREIGN EXCHANGE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1500m

CASURINA STAR – Bumped with a runner to its inside soon after jumping.

MODERNISM – Jockey J. Stanley reported that the mare had hung in throughout proving difficult to ride. Raced wide from the 450m.

MIKEYS TURF – Contacted the gate post when exiting the parade yard. Underwent a precautionary veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Bumped with a runner to its outside soon after jumping. Raced wide for the majority.``````````````````````````````````

Race 7: FIRST CLASS ACCOUNTS CAIRNS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1250m

SPEED EIGHT – Raced wide for the majority.

VAN GAAL – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.

BOLD SENSATION – Slowly away after hesitating as the barriers opened. Jockey/Trainer C. Jokic was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

SWEET JUNE – App E. Cass who was to be overweight was replaced by App K. Swaffer as the rider of the mare. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Shifted in under pressure near the 100m but was quickly straightened.

ARTE ET MARTE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
