GENERAL
The following runners which had not raced for an extended period all underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were cleared to start.

Race 1: CLIVE GORDON MEMORIAL Maiden Handicap 1250 Metres

LAIDE – Trainer G. Smith was reprimanded in that he failed to declare overweight for the filly by required time. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

ALONTRO – Slow to begin. Trainer T. Rowe reported post-race the gelding had lacerations to its off-hind coronet. Mr Rowe was advised a veterinary clearance of fitness will be required prior to it being permitted to race again.

MARALAH – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

UNTOLD CHOICE – Trainer S. Seymour was reprimanded regarding his late declaration of rider for the gelding.

IMPEACHER – Over-raced in the middle stages.

OLYMPIC MOTTO – Raced wide in the early stages.

Race 2: 2 LADBROKES COMMUNITIES QTIS Two-Year-Old & Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 950 Metres

MINI BEER – Trainer A. Malliff was reprimanded in that he failed to declare overweight for the filly by required time. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

BAKERSFIELD – Fractious in the barriers and slow into stride.

NELLYATION – Slow to begin. Apprentice R. Wilson dropped her whip near the 200 metres.

FIGHTING GRISBI – Slow to begin.

FIGHTING GRISBI – Slow to begin.

MISHANI MERLOT – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run leaving the 100 metres before switching back the inside of MOON MISSILE.

MOON MISSILE – Shifted ground under pressure near the 100 metres hampering MISHANI MERLOT.

CASUAL – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

MISS TITTLE TAT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 3: CAIRNS TRUCK SCHOOL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 950 Metres

AURA GOLD – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Connections were advised a warning would be placed on its barrier manners. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ALEXANDRA MARGARET – Blundered on jumping and lost ground resulting in its saddle shifting back placing jockey C. Jokic at a disadvantage.

ALLIED COMMAND – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

ROTH'N'BELL – Began awkwardly.

HALLSIDE HAMMER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

STRATHCONA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS/ROB KOCH MEMORIAL/FNQ UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 70 2100 Metres

PETRILLO (NZ) – Trainers T & P Rowe were reprimanded regarding the late declaration of rider for the gelding. Commenced to lose ground leaving the 1000 metres and finished tailed off. Jockey R. Shred advised the gelding travelled well to that point however commenced to lose ground and was very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered cardiac arrythmia/atrial fibrillation. Connections advised it will be their intention that PETRILLO will be retired from racing. Trainers T & P Rowe will be advised that should circumstances change a veterinary clearance will be required inclusive of EGC results to be forwarded to stewards and to compete in an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.

HEALING GAME – Shifted out at the start tightening runners to it outside. Commenced to lose ground leaving the 700 metres. Jockey J. Taylor advised the gelding was not comfortable on today’s track and was very disappointing, he further added it may be suited to a bigger track. Trainer F. Wieland advised stewards he will have further examinations conducted after returning to its stable and advise stewards of any findings. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

THE BEAT GOES ON – Shifted in at the start tightening runners to it inside. Weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer T. Rowe advised THE BEAT GOES ON will be sent for immediate spell. Mr Rowe was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to its next start.

NEMINGAH (NZ) – Tightened for room on jumping. Over-raced in the middle stages.

DON ARCANGELO – Tightened for room on jumping.

WHY WOULDN'T YOU – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.

WISE DRAGON – Raced wide in the early stages.

Race 5: NQPS SECURITY BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1250 Metres

MA MA'S ROSE – Slow to begin.

KUROBUTA – Bumped on jumping. Restrained shortly after start to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail.

CETSHWAYO – Shifted in at the start bumping KUROBUTA. Trainer S. Massingham was questioned in regard to its seemingly improved performance. Mr Massingham stated that following its last start in his opinion the gelding was not suited going from 1000 metres up to 1400 metres and that it hung out from the 800 metres and was checked in running on the home turn, he further added that a drop in grade today and the drop back in distance to 1250 metres along with a gear change of a bubble cheeker for the first time were also beneficial to its performance today.

MASTER ORR – Saddle shifted back soon after the start placing jockey M. Butler at a distinct disadvantage. Clipped heels and blundered near the 1000 metres. Shifted out under pressure near the 50 meters hampering VANCOUVER BAY before shifting back in. Trainer M. Dale subsequently advised stewards the gelding had minor lacerations to both front legs.

VANCOUVER BAY – Crowded for room approaching the winning post and was steadied.

STRONACH – Shifted in near the 1000 metres inconveniencing MASTER ORR before being corrected. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Stewards inquired into the reason MASTER ORR clipped heels and blundered near the 1000 metres. After hearing stewards’ observation and rider statements it was established that after being placed in restricted room approaching the 1000 metres by TOSCAVALE ROAD whilst improving to the lead, was further inconvenienced by STONACH which was following TOSCAVALE ROAD across before being corrected. M. Butler (MASTER ORR) stated that the gelding changed stride on the point of the turn and shifted out marginally and further that he was badly disadvantaged in controlling his mount with his saddle slipping back, resulting in MASTER ORR clipping the nearside heel of STONACH which also changed stride in shifted in before being corrected. Stewards after noting all of the evidence and viewing the film nonetheless reprimanded R. Shred (TOSCAVALE ROAD) and S. Sheargold (STONACH) and advised that stewards expect much greater care being taken from senior riders in similar circumstances.

Race 6: LADBROKES BET TICKER BENCHMARK 55 Handicap1250 Metres

ACCTORIES – Was declared a late scratching at 3.13pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice when found to have lacerations in the head area. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on ACCTORIES prior to 3.13pm was ordered to be refunded with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable.

PINDARRA'S DREAM – Slow to begin. Bumped on the hind quarters on two occasions approaching the 1000 metres. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

BROADWAY BABE – Slow to begin. Over-raced approaching the 1000 metres having to be restrained from heels. A subsequent post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed a fracture to its off-front sesamoid resulting in the mare being euthanised on humane grounds.

BOOMED – Commenced to over-race approaching the 1000 metres and shifted out bumping PINDARRA’S DREAM on the hind quarters on two occasions before being restrained to take a position closer to the inside running rail.

COURTING SARA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

ADAMINABY – Raced wide for the majority of the race and compounded over the concluding stages.

INDICTMENT – Trainer S. Massingham was questioned regarding its seemingly improved performance. Mr Massingham stated that he was very disappointed with its previous start. He added that a better barrier draw today as compared to its wide draw at its last start and drop in grade together with a more senior and stronger rider today was beneficial to its performance. Stewards noted his comments and advised Mr Massingham they would expect the gelding to perform consistently going forward.

Race 7: JANICE D'ADDONA MEMORIAL OPEN Handicap1400 Metres

ROCK SPUR – Slow to begin.

MEMBERS ONLY – Slow to begin.

LE VIZIR – Over-raced in the early stages.

TUTELAGE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 8: PAUL DAVIS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT Class 6 Plate 1250 Metres

GOLDEN GORGE – Slow to begin.

NIGHT GUY – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

NANTUCKET – Over-raced in the early stages.

FOCUS – Commenced to over-race approaching the 1000 metres and shifted out bumping AVATEA on number of occasions. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Shifted in leaving the 1000 metres having to be restrained off the heels of BONYTHON. Hampered over the concluding stages.

AVATEA – Bumped on a number of occasions approaching the 1000 metres becoming awkward on the heels of COOLMEANS and having to be checked. Over-raced leaving the 1000 metres and shifted wider. Hampered over the concluding stages. Raced wide for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

INVESTOR – Difficulties obtaining clear running in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

KING JESTER – Shifted ground under pressure over the concluding stages hampering INVESTOR.

COOLMEANS (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

BONYTHON – Shifted out under pressure of the concluding stages hampering FOCUS and AVATEA. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
