Race 3: CASALIS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP – 1123 Metres
 
Stewards today inquired into to the reason SOLOMON appeared to clip heels near the 350 metres and fall dislodging jockey F. Edwards. After hearing steward’s statements, evidence from jockey Edwards and viewing of the race day footage it was established that SOLOMON improved onto the heels of MISHANI REBOUND, clipping that runner’s heels and fell, dislodging jockey F. Edwards near the 350 metres. As stewards deemed this an unfortunate racing incident with no rider error no further action was taken and the inquiry was closed.

Stewards today inquired into the reason whilst conducting trackwork, Trainer/Jockey Ms N. Nelson had two unlicensed people conducting stable duties on the morning. After hearing all submissions Ms Nelson pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of LR 43 which reads; Unlicensed person not to be employed Unless with the permission of the Principal Racing Authority a Trainer shall not employ an unlicensed person or allow an unlicensed person to work in or about any training establishment in any role involving the training working or custody or management of any racehorse trained, owned or leased by him. In considering penalty stewards took into account Ms Nelson personal circumstances, honesty and guilty plea. Ms Nelson was fined the sum of $300.00.
 
Stewards today inquired into the reason whilst conducting trackwork, trainer Ms M. Potiris had failed to keep her treatment record book up to date for a period of time. After hearing all submissions Ms Potiris pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions AR104 which reads: Trainers must keep treatment records (1) A trainer must record any medication or treatment administered to any horse in the trainer’s care by midnight on the day on which the administration was given. The specifics of the charge being that she failed to keep accurate records as required under the rule. In considering penalty stewards took into account Ms Potiris’s personal circumstances, honesty and guilty plea. Ms Potiris was fined the sum of $200.00.

Race 1: ELDERS REAL ESTATE TABLELANDS MAIDEN HANDICAP –  950 M
 
ATOMIC THEORY – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Trainer R. Miller was advised a warning would be placed on its barrier manners. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
THREEBROTHERS – Began awkwardly and was then crowded for room shortly after.
 
IT'S BEEN A TREK – When asked to explain its performance today jockey G. Kliese advised the gelding never travelled comfortably, did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. Trainer representative R. Ryan explained IT’S BEEN A TREK had pleased in its trackwork leading up to today’s race and was very disappointing. Mr Ryan gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to his attention in coming days that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. 
 
POWER SHOW –Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
Race 2: POOL STORE PLUS QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE – 950 M
 
BOOMALINA – As jockey A. Thomson was indisposed, she was replaced by G. Kliese. Ms Thomson was advised she must provide a medical clearance prior to her next race ride.
 
FLYING ARTIST – Began awkwardly and bumped soon after the start.
 
FODOR – Slow to begin. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
LORD POWER – Put its head down as the start was effected and began very awkwardly and shifted in bumping FLYING ARTIST.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainers T & P Rowe were advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior to its next trial or race start.
 
Race 3: ASTUTE FINANCE - DONNIE MARTIN OPEN HANDICAP – 950 M
 
MACEDON FLYER – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers which revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind and near front legs and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2.47pm. All monies invested on MACEDON FLYER were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 2.47pm:

1 cent in the dollar for the place of winner BOLD TYPE   
1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place KING JESTER
 
Trainer N. Nelson was advised she must provide a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to its next trial or race start.
 
No other racing incidents.
 
Race 4: FRED WIELAND RACING BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1400 M
 
NEBARAZ – Slow to begin.

TAVISTEEL (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
MEDAL (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
KING’S HALO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near front leg. Trainer S. Massingham was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance of soundness prior to it trialing or racing again.  
 
SINGLE HONOR – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.  

Race 5: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES QTIS JEWEL QUALIFIER 3YO PLATE – 1250 M
 
LUCKY JIM – Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
PUSS BOOTS – Bounded in the air on jumping and was slow into stride.
 
SHORT NAP – Slow into stride. Eased rounding the home turn. Jockey G. Kliese advised that in his opinion the gelding may have choked down. A veterinary examination revealed the horse to have swallowed its tongue and a poor post-race recovery. Co Trainer P. Rowe advised stewards it would be the intention to add a tongue tie to its gear prior to its next start and further Mr Rowe was advised that a veterinary clearance is also required prior to it trialling or race start.

THE WALLET – Slow into stride. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
NAZORIAN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride and having to be corrected a number of times. Trainer representative R. Ryan was advised a warning would be placed on its racing manners. 
 
Race 6: BABINDA ELECTRICS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1250 M
 
MAN OF VALOR – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and was then bumped and shifted out tightening runners to its outside.Over-raced in the early stages. A post- race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have injured its off-front tendon. Trainer G. Holt was advised she must provide a veterinary clearance of soundness prior to it trialling or racing again.    
 
HOKOLESQUA – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping MAN OF VALOUR.
 
ROSE OF ATHENS – Began awkwardly and was then tightened for room. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISHANI MENACE – Tightened for room on jumping and was restrained.

DYSTOPIAN –Began awkwardly and shifted in tightening runners to its inside.
 
EYE OF RA – Commenced to over-race approaching the 900 metres and shifted out placing BOOGIE WONDERLAND in restricted room.
 
BOOGIE WONDERLAND – Placed in restricted room approaching the 900 metres and was restrained.
 
MISS WHITE – Raced wide for the majority.
