SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Innisfail Turf Club 14 December 2024

Race 1: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 900 Metres

Stewards today inquired into the reason apprentice M. Campbell was dislodged when ANCIENT STYLE faltered and fell leaving the 600 metres. After hearing steward’s observations and statements from Apprentice Campbell in the company of senior rider M. McDonald it was established, ANCIENT STYLE collapsed leaving the 600 metres dislodging Ms Campbell. Stewards determined that no action of any other rider in the race or horse had contributed to the fall which was deemed to be a very unfortunate racing incident.

Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of YOUNG EXPRESS (J. Murphy) and BOMBINATE (T. LISTENTOZOU (NZ) – Stewards questioned jockey A. Holt and co – trainer P. Rowe regarding the tactics adopted today when the gelding opened up a sizeable lead in the middle stages. Jockey A. Holt explained he had been given no specific instructions however with the benefit of riding LISTENTOZOU at its previous start where in his opinion it was not suited by being restrained in the early stages and was of the opinion it would be better suited by being allowed to stride freely, however he was not aware of the lead LISTENTOZOU had achieved nor was it his intention. Co – trainer P. Rowe confirmed jockey Holt’s statement and while it was anticipated LISTENTOZOU would race more forward he was not expecting it to lead in that fashion even though it was stepping up in distance today since joining the stable. He further added that the re-application of a cross-over nose band was also beneficial in the horse traveling more kindly today.
