As the following runners MR OREO, SATURDAY VIBES, MUTAFIQ, COPPABELLA ROAD, had not raced for an extended period, they underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were cleared to race.
Jockey C. Meehan was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness and was replaced as per steward’s summary.
RACE 1: LADBROKES SPRING HOSTED POTS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres
FLOURISH – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start and was slow into stride. Stewards noted rider A. Thomson exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ two) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
SECRET SKYFALL – Slow to begin.
LOVE WRAP – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages.
RACE 2: BABINDA ELECTRICS QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
FRENCH DRAGON – Slow to begin.
WE US 'N' CO – Slow to begin.
MR OREO – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
SHEZA BARBAROSSA – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages and made the 1000 metre turn awkwardly.
RACE 3: ALL CONSTRUCTION APPROVALS BM68 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres
ARCTIC BEAR – Over-raced in the early stages.
ECLIPSION – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
INDEFINITE (NZ) – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 4: MITCHELL FOOD AGENCY OPEN HANDICAP – 950 Metres
SATURDAY VIBES – Delayed the start when refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 3.00pm by order of stewards. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on SATURDAY VIBES were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetter prior to 3.00pm:
24 cents in the dollar for the win MISSILE THUNDER
23 cents in the dollar for the place of winner MISSILE THUNDER
21 cents in the dollar for 2nd place BLOOMIN’ RIPPER
Connections were advised the gelding must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
BLOOMIN' RIPPER – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running leaving the 200 metres.
RUBY CHICKS – Slow to begin.
ALI'S JAB – Began awkwardly and shifted out contacting its outside barrier gate and lost ground.
LOUD NOISE – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
RACE 5: BARRIER REEF BUSINESS BROKERS BM55 HANDICAP – 1500 Metres
THE COPS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
The start of this race was delayed significantly when a licensee required ambulance attention. After receiving medical care she recovered quickly.
PICCAPEPPA – Delayed the start further after its saddle shifted enroute to the barriers. Put an awkward stride near the 950 metres. Shifted out under pressure near the 200 metres bumping INNOVATES.
AL RAS BLUES – Slow to begin. Was forced wider around the heels of INNOVATES which continued to shift under pressure after being initially bumped by PICCAPEPPA leaving the 200 metres. Stewards considered an objection by jockey A. Holt against INNOVATES being declared the winner alleging interference near the 200 metres. After hearing evidence from jockey J. Murphy and trainer R. Miller (INNOVATES), jockey A. Holt and trainer R. Sewell (AL RAS BLUES) along with viewing of the stewards patrol film stewards were of the opinion the interference suffered by AL RAS BLUES was greater than the margin at the finish and the protest was upheld with correct weight declared on: 1st AL RAS BLUES: 2ND INNOVATES; 3RD MELANIN: 4TH PICCAPEPPA
HE GOES BOOM – Over-raced in the early stages.
INNOVATES – Bumped by PICCAPEPPA near the 200 metres and continued to shift wider under riding inconveniencing AL RAS BLUES.
RACE 6: PICCONE’S VILLAGES BM60 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
PREMIUM STAR – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air shortly after the start when being restrained.
KING'S HALO – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Jockey R. Wiggins whip became entangled in the reins near the 200 metres until leaving the 150 metres.
RACE 7: STATUS SIGNS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 950 Metres
SOWILO SIREN – Was kicked on the offside stifle area during its preliminary and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start.
THE KAMIKAZE (NZ) – Shifted in slightly near the 500 metres placing BRING ME FLOWERS in restricted room. Rider I. Fry was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
BRING ME TO LIFE (NZ) – Bumped on two occasions near the 500 metres by SHERE KHAN which shifted out when racing ungenerously and was restrained when placed in restricted room between SHERE KHAN and THE KAMIKAZE which shifted in slightly, simultaneously.
SHERE KHAN – Raced ungenerously near the 500 metres when racing in restricted room to the outside of POWER PUFF which was also over-racing and shifted out bumping BRING ME TO LIFE on two occasions.
POWER PUFF – Over-raced to the inside of SHERE KHAN near the 500 metres.
DESERT GRIT – Restrained near the 500 metres and shifted wider.
MUSIC GIRL – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
LASER BEAM – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
RACE 8: LADBROKES BIG BETS QTIS 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 950 Metres
The start of this race was delayed when a section of running rail was found to have dislodged requiring to be repositioned.
COPPABELLA ROAD – Slow to begin. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Shifted in near the 400 metres crowding MARGOT BARBIE. Jockey M. McDonald was advised to exercise more care.
RAFF VADER – Slow to begin.
KEITANY – Slow to begin. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
YOUWANNAPEACHOFME – Slow to begin.
MARGOT BARBIE – Raced in restricted room near the 400 metres when racing ungenerously to the inside of COPPABELLA ROAD which shifted in.
TRAVELLING SWEET – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
