Stewards noted and accepted the reasons for the late declaration of riders for trainer S. Massingham.
Race 1: M.A.D RACING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 950 Metres
SCARLENA – Slow to begin. Made the 750-metre crossing awkwardly. Lost its off-front plate during running.
RAAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BETTA WIN – Began awkwardly and raced greenly for the majority of the race.
WORTHY GEM – Bumped on jumping.
RADIANT POWER – Shifted out at the start bumping with WORTHY GEM. Raced greenly in the home straight and laid out.
CHICA PODEROSA – Raced greenly in the home straight and laid in.
Race 2: COOPER RACING MAIDEN PLATE – 950 Metres
VOLARE – Shifted in at the start bumping with MACY THE ACE and lost ground. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
MACY THE ACE – Bumped on jumping.
ESSAY WINE – Shifted out at the start bumping with NIVEN and raced in restricted room for a short distance soon after the start and was steadied.
NIVEN – Shifted in at the start bumping with ESSAY WINE and raced in restricted room for a short distance soon after the start and was steadied.
MINNIE VEGAS – Shifted in at the start bumping with SILVERTURN. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
SILVERTURN – Bumped on jumping.
MIDDLE CHILD – Put in two awkward strides shortly after the start.
HERE'S MASON – Difficulties obtaining clear running leaving the 100 metres and went to the line without being fully tested.
Race 3: WIELAND RACING CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 950 Metres
SUPER TWENTY THREE – Slow to begin.
EGZAKLY – Slow to begin.
FIVE BULLS – Slow to begin.
FAST AS STEEL – Fractious in the barriers and was slow to begin.
POWER PUFF – Fractious in the barriers. Bounded in the air on jumping. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
CORBUSIER - Raced keenly in the early stages and restrained off heels near the 500 metres.
Race 4: MILLER RACING / BAILEY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
CONFISERIE (NZ) – Had it head turned to the off-side as the start was effected and was slow to begin.
NORDIC INVADER – Began awkwardly. Shifted out near the 300 metres hampering GEM OF SCOTS. Rider R. Wiggins was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. When asked to explain the performance of the gelding, which raced below market expectations, jockey R. Wiggins advised NORDIC INVADER never travelled comfortably throughout the race. Trainer S. Massingham advised he was of the opinion the gelding was better suited to a firmer track than that of today’s surface as NORDIC INVADER had raced in a similar pattern previously on a similar track. Stewards noted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
GEM OF SCOTS – Momentarily hampered near the 300 metres.
Race 5: ROWE RACING BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres
DREAMWOMAN – Slow to begin. Bumped near the 1000 metres.
WINEHOUSE – Raced ungenerously approaching the 1000 metres and shifted out bumping with DREAM WOMAN and then shifted in crowding NIPPA’S CLUB. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
NIPPA'S NIGHTCAP – Crowded for room near the 1000 metres and shifted in placing YAMABUSHI in restricted room near the 900 metres. Hampered for a short distance approaching and leaving the 100 metres.
YAMABUSHI – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 900 metres and was steadied.
BOOM BOOM RAY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight hampering NIPPA’S NIGHTCAP approaching and leaving the 100 metres.
ON THE QUITE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride. When asked to explain the performance of the gelding, which raced below market expectations, jockey A. Thompson was of the opinion ON THE QUITE may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer A. Bailey advised he would experiment with possible gear changes prior to its next start and monitor how the gelding pulled up from today’s race before considering its immediate racing preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: MASSINGHAM RACING OPEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres
REFORMIST - Slow into stride. Shifted wider leaving the 900 metres.
TYCOON BEAU – Slow into stride. Over raced in the middle stages. Jockey R. Wiggins pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100 metres with a totality of 12 times. Jockey Wiggins was fined the sum of $500.00. R. Wiggins was advised of his appeal rights.
INCHING CLOSER – Over raced in the early stages.
LIDDER VALLEY – Over raced in the early stages and made the 1000 metre turn awkwardly.
Race 7: LADBROKES POPULAR SRM BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres
SAVEE – Stewards noted and accepted the reasons for the dual riding engagement of jockey S. Cormack and the late declaration of rider N. Thomas. Began awkwardly and was reluctant to stride out in the early stages.
BETTA AL – Shifted in at the start making contact with FLYING ARTIST and was bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and was unbalanced. Raced wide with cover.
MELO MELO KAVA – Shifted out at the start making contact with FLYING ARTIST. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
FLYING ARTIST – Tightened for room and bumped heavily on jumping and lost ground. Over raced in the middle stages.
BUFFET BUSTER – Shifted in at the start crowding KICKAGAOL KENNY shortly after the start. Shifted in approaching the finish line inconveniencing KICKAGOAL KENNY. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
KICKAGOAL KENNY – Crowded for room shortly after the start. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the winning post.
LA MANO – Over raced in the early stages.
SHEZA CHIQUITITA – Over raced in the early stages.
