As no riders were available SAN DIEGUITO and DARKNESS ABOVE were declared late scratchings at 12.30pm.
Race 1: FRANCIS LEWIS ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP - 1000m
1st – COOLBIE 2nd – KUNG FU KITTY 3rd – RHYTHM NATION 4th-SEAZA
The start of this race was delayed to 1.40pm due to jockey S. Egan’s late arrival on course. Jockey Egan was reprimanded.
SHREK HER OUT – Bumped another runner shortly after the start.
KUNG FU KITTY - Bumped another runner shortly after the start.
HIGHWAY CHILD – Steadied and lost ground leaving the 800m when tightened for room to the inside of THE CHARMED ONE (B. Richardson), which shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry jockey Richardson was issued with a reprimand for this incident. In determining penalty Stewards took into account jockey Richardson’s excellent record.
RHYTHM NATION – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 2: L WEBSTER MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE – 1200m
1st – RAHEEBS KINGDOM 2nd – JIMNA 3rd – CLANGFILLY 4th – SCHIEHALLION
The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey J. Geppert, rider of third placegetter CLANGFILLY, the opportunity to view the photo finish image. After viewing the image jockey Geppert was satisfied and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.
DREAD LACH MAGIC – Jumped awkwardly, making heavy contact with another runner, resulting in jockey S. Egan losing his irons and the gelding taking no further competitive part in the event. Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start.
CLANGFILLY – Bumped heavily at the start.
GRACE AND WILF – Slow to begin.
SCHIEHALLION – Tightened for room shortly after the start.
ROLLING ART - Tightened for room shortly after the start.
CROISSANTS – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Rudd reported that the mare is better suited to races over a shorter distance than today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 3: CUNNAMULLA RACE CLUB CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200m
1st – STAR SYSTEM 2nd – STAND’N’STARE 3rd – GENERAL NICK 4th – SEQUAJAKE
IN MY FACE – Fractious in the barriers and slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have superficial abrasions to its tongue.
SEQUAJAKE – Slow to begin.
ARCTIC RED – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
STAND’N’STARE - Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 4: WARREGO HOTEL MOTEL OPEN HANDICAP – 1200m
1st – GENERAL SORRISO 2nd – KOORAGAN LANE 3rd – BRITISH BULLDOG 4th – MORE OF THE ZAIM
BRITISH BULLDOG – Bumped another runner at the start.
KOORAGAN LANE - Bumped another runner at the start. Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 100m.
PRIVATE DOWNS – Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start.
GENERAL SORRISO – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
MORE OF THE ZAIM – Apprentice S. Palmer was reprimanded for failing to weigh in for fourth place.
JOE BLOW – When questioned regarded the performance jockey and trainer D. Rewald reported that the gelding did not travel comfortably in the early stages and lost ground, however ran on fairly over the concluding stages. He also noted that the gelding was dropping back in distance from its last start which may have contributed to the disappointing performance in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 5: PATRONS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1400m
1st – KIRKHEATON 2nd – GUNS ‘N’ GUITARS 3rd – MAGIC GLENYCE 4th – TENMOREGRAND
The start of this race was delayed when FABLED DOMAIN was unable to be loaded. FABLED DOMAIN was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 4.10pm. All monies invested on FABLED DOMAIN were order to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
2 cents in the dollar for the winner #7
10 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #7
12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
10 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5
Trainer E. Jonson was advised that FABLED DOMAIN would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
HILDESHEIM – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey C. Bryen reported that the mare did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and proved very disappointing. Trainer T. Elmes advised stewards the mare would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
