GENERAL

The following horses were declared late scratching’s by order of Stewards due to no rider being available: Race 2- SEEYA LATER GATER, Race 5- SCOTLAND at 8.00am.

RACE 1: RURAL METAL TRADERS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

BOULIA- Stewards ordered a pre-race veterinary inspection be carried out on the gelding, this examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and was passed fit to race at today’s meeting. Began awkwardly and then put in an awkward stride shortly after the start. Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event. As a result of the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse, a post-race veterinary examination was undertaken. This examination revealed a lateral excursion near the offside and a dental examination was recommended prior to racing again. Stewards spoke with Jockey R Tilley regarding the performance of BOULIA today, Jockey Tilley stated that his mount was disappointing, the horse jumped okay, but after getting back he resented the kickback and failed to improve. Jockey Tilley reported to the trainer that a change of gear may benefit the horse moving forward. Stewards noted Jockey Tilley’s comments.

PRINCE SEVRES- A pre-race veterinary examination was undertaken at the request of Stewards; no abnormalities were detected and subsequently passed fit to start at today’s meeting. Bumped with ZAMUNDA QUEEN shortly after the start.

CELTIC LIGHT- Declared a late scratching by Stewards at 9.15am on advice from Trainer W Baker who stated that the horse had sustained injuries enroute to today’s race meeting. Mr. Baker was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.

CHAMPAGNE QUEEN- Laid in while racing in the home straight.

MEGAPHONE MISS- Laid in during the early stages of the event before being corrected by the rider.

ZAMUNDA QUEEN- Bumped with another runner shortly after the start. Stewards acting under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) suspended the licence of Jockey S Galvin to ride in races for his use of the whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m for a period of 8 days, commencing at midnight on the 10/10/2026 up to and including the 18/10/2026, allowing Jockey Galvin  the freedom to return to race riding on the 19th of October 2026. In determining penalty Stewards used the Approved Whip Template, considered Jockey Galvin’s record in relation to the rule, his forthright evidence and his guilty plea.

THEBOOGEYMAN- Began very awkwardly as the start was affected.

RACE 2:BILL PESKETT MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200M

TALMA I LOVE HER- Slow to begin then bumped soon after the start with INVADER’S GIRL. Raced wide from the 800m point. On returning to the mounting yard Trainer W Baker reported the gelding had injured its near fore tendon and had blood emitting from the left nostril. A post-race veterinary examination was undertaken and confirmed a substantial injury to the near foreleg. Mr. Baker was advised the horse would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again and as a result of the one nostril bleed would be required to perform a 1000m gallop to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to returning to racing. Mr Baker advised he would recommend to the connections that the gelding be retired.

PINS AND NEEDLES- Bumped with TITAHI BAY soon after the start was affected.

BOULEVARD BOY- Began awkwardly. Raced wide from the 800m point.

DREYFUS- Leaving the 200m permitted his mount to shift in resulting in the rider of SHERIFF’S STAR (R Tilley) having to take hold losing his rightful running and losing ground. Stewards acting under the provision of AR131(a) issued a Reprimand to Jockey T Banks for Careless Riding.

SHERIFF’S STAR- Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m point  was forced to take hold and lost ground due to another runner shifting out, encroaching on SHERIFF’S STAR’s rightful running.

TITAHI BAY- Began awkwardly then bumped with PINS AND NEEDLES soon after the start.

INVADER’S GIRL- Bumped at the start with another runner, raced wide for the majority of the event. Stewards acting under the provision of AR206(1) issued a Reprimand to Trainer M Pitman via her stable representative for presenting her horse to the mounting yard with incorrect gear.

RACE 3: BROWN AND HURLEY CLASS B HANDICAP 1000M

ALL TOO SHEIK- Began very awkwardly.

THE TERMINATOR- Began awkwardly, raced wide from the 400m then tended to lay in while racing in the home straight, the rider was forced to take hold leaving the 200m point when inconvenienced by another runner.

SPANISH RAGE- Began awkwardly with its head in the air.

LIBERTY CALLS- Slow to begin. Bumped with SERAPHINE as the start was affected. Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200m resulting in the rider of THE TERMINATOR having to take hold.

KAT CHINNA- Slow to begin.

ZOUCHASE- Began awkwardly when jumping in the air at the start.

HIGHLY TEMPTED- Raced wide for the majority. Lost near hind shoe in transit. When approaching the pullup area, the Jockey D Evans dismounted and with the assistance of the Clerk of the Course walked his mount back to the mounting yard. Jockey Evans reported to Stewards that the horse felt scratchy in its action and failed to stretch out when called upon to improve. He added he was of the opinion that the gelding went amiss shortly after passing the winning post and he pulled it up as quickly as he could and, began to walk it back to the yard. A post-race veterinary examination was undertaken and revealed swelling and pain over the right lateral fetlock. Trainer Mr V Jones was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.

TOY STORY- Dipped badly soon after the start and then at approximately the 950m appeared to overreact and put in an awkward stride when being corrected by the rider. Raced wide from the 800m point Stewards spoke with Jockey D Boutet regarding his use of the whip on several occasions shortly after the start. Jockey Boutet advised he had to strike the horse a number of times at that point to settle him and improve into the race. Stewards accepted the reasons for the use of the whip but reminded him of his obligations as a rider to monitor the number of strikes in similar circumstances.

ZA HIDDEN DRAGON- Approaching the 900m attempted to take a run between ZOUCHASE and BORN FEARLESS shortly after the rider then redirected the horse to the inside of ZOUCHASE in an effort to improve. Stewards acting under the provision of AR143(14) issued a monetary penalty of $200 to Apprentice Jockey J Miller for his failure to claim his allowance in Races 2 and 4.

This examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr. V Jones who advised he was disappointed in the performance of the horse at this meeting and will consider the future of him moving forward. Stewards noted his comments, but due to the substantial margin of 21.2L as well as the record of the horse leading up to this event, placed a Warning on the horse.
