All riders riding at todays meeting provided negative readings when breathalysed prior to riding.

RACE 1: XXXX PLATE MAIDEN FOR 3YO & UP SET WEIGHTS – 1000M

ZARMONEY – After being fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to start.

SOMERSET DAWN – Was slow to begin.

LITTLE BOMBER – Was slow to begin.

SEQUENTIAL STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously rounding the home turn and in the home straight.

ZARMONEY – Began awkwardly. Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn and was forced to ease.

TO BE KING – Raced in restricted room near the 800m and had to be eased. Bumped by another runner near the 700m and was forced wider on the track.

COMMANDING FORCE – Raced greenly throughout and proved difficult to ride out in the home straight.

BAY DUKE – Raced greenly in the home straight. Raced wide without cover throughout.

ROCKONI – Forced to shift inwards in the early stages of the home straight when awkwardly placed at the heels of Bay Duke, which shifted in. Near the 100m shifted out to obtain clear running.

RACE 2: QLD COTTON PLATE MAIDEN FOR 3YO & UP SET WEIGHTS – 1000M

MASSIVE ATTACK – Began awkwardly and was further hampered at the start when bumped by another runner and as a result lost ground. Stewards questioned N. Evans in relation to the disappointing performance of the gelding. Jockey N. Evans stated that after being hampered at the start he was forced to race further back in the field than he had anticipated. He added that despite this he was still confident that the gelding would run on in the home straight however when placed under pressure it failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Stable representative M. Currie could offer no reasonable explanation for the disappointing performance and added that the gelding had worked well in preparation for today’s event. A post race veterinary examination of Massive Attack failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr. Currie undertook to advise stewards in the days subsequent to todays race if any abnormalities arise.

TOYETTE – Was slow to begin.

FROSTBITE – Began awkwardly. Rider was dislodged on returning to scale and suffered a harmless fall.

ELSPETH’S STAR – Momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of another runner.

ZAHA COUNTY – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Stewards questioned B. Newport in relation to the disappointing performance of the gelding. Jockey B. Newport stated that the gelding travelled well however when placed under pressure failed to run on over the concluding stages and in his opinion would be better suited over further ground.

ISTALENA – Became unbalanced when shifting out to avoid the heels of Elspeth’s Star when rounding the home turn and as a result made contact with the hindquarters of Second Love.

WHEN IN DOUBT – Jockey L. Attard was fined the sum of $200 for weighing in overweight.

RACE 3: HAWKOS ROUGH TRIP TOUR CUP HCP BMK 60 – 2000M

Trainer L. Hatch reported to stewards prior to the event that HEREAFTER would be ridden further back in the field today if circumstances permit. Subsequently raced in a midfield position.

CLARENCE VIEW – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Forced wider on the track by another runner when rounding the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion. Stewards questioned R. Johnston-Bell in relation to the disappointing performance of the mare. Apprentice Johnston-Bell advised that the mare, after being slow to begin raced further back in the field than he had anticipated however did travel strongly throughout the event. Apprentice Johnston-Bell added that when placed under pressure from the 500m the mare failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. R. Johnston-Bell added that in his opinion the mare did not run out the distance in today’s event. Trainer P. Sexton stated that in light of todays disappointing performance he would now review the current preparation of Clarence View, which may include spelling the mare.

LEPRECHAUN LAD – Was forced to steady when placed in restricted room near the 1700m. Making the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion raced with its head in the air and shifted out making contact with the heels of Brewing and blundered. Stewards questioned S. Bogenhuber in relation to the tactics adopted whereby after improving from the tail of the field near the 1100m there appeared to be an opportunity for her to cross the runners to her inside near the 900m however she elected to take hold at that time of the race and subsequently raced wide for the remainder of the event. Jockey Bogenhuber advised stewards that due to the slow tempo she allowed her mount to stride forward and it was her intention to obtain the leading position however she was of the view that the leading runners were travelling strongly at that point of the race and therefore she felt that she would have been required to place her mount under significant pressure to obtain the leading position. Having had the opportunity to view the patrol footage Jockey S. Bogenhuber agreed with stewards that she erred in not allowing her mount to continue striding forward to obtain a leading position, which would have provided her with an easier run for the remainder of the event. Stewards were not however of the view that jockey Bogenhuber’s riding had fallen below the required standard and therefore took no action.

AHA I SEE – Forced wider on the track by another runner when rounding the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion. Apprentice L. Tilley was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

SINGARAJA – Jockey K. Yoshida was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100m.

BREWING – Stewards questioned B. Sturgess in relation to the improved performance of the mare. Mr. Sturgess was surprised that the mare was able to win today and could offer no reasonable explanation for the improved performance other than the horse was not suited on the tight turning track at Kilcoy at its most recent start. Mr. Sturgess also added that the horse did race well three starts ago at the Sunshine Coast when only beaten 3.3L over a similar distance to today’s event. Stewards noted his comments.

RACE 4: CROWE HORWATH LIGHTNING OPEN HCP – 800M

MISS MEGA HERZ – Slightly slow to begin and was further hampered at the start when bumped by another runner. Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority of the event. Stewards questioned L. Tilley in relation to the disappointing performance of the mare. Apprentice L. Tilley stated that after being slow to begin he was forced to pressure the mare throughout the event, which was not to the horse’s advantage. He added that in the home straight she failed to run on as he had expected and proved disappointing. Apprentice L. Tilley also added that given the horses established racing pattern of leading he felt missing the start today was the major contributing factor to the mare’s disappointing performance. Trainer P. Sexton stated that it would be his intention to spell the mare following todays disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was also taken from the mare.

ASTRONOMER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

SPEEDING DRAGON – Bumped heavily by another runner on jumping away.

RUMOUR AND SCANDAL – Jumped out at the start and made contact with another runner. Momentarily steadied when placed in restricted rom near the 200m.

JOHNNYDRAMA – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained during the middle stages of the event.

MONSIEUR HUGHES – Near the 700m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ROOMS ON FIRE, which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice E. Ljung was reprimanded for using her whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100m.

RACE 6: PUMA ENERGY CUP HCP BMK 55 – 1400M

Trainer R. Hilton was fined the sum of $100 for failing to produce the registration papers for Dayzari.

ELLO ELLO – Was slow to begin.

RELEASE ME – Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 400m. Near the 700m was forced to steady when awkwardly placed at the heels of Maughan, which shifted out marginally whilst being restrained.

DAYZARI – Was tightened for room at the start.

RACE 7: WILD RIVER CONCRETE DALBY NEWMARKET OPEN HCP – 1200M

WRITTENINTHERAIN – Declared a late scratching at 3:15pm on veterinary’s advice.

THINKHESAURUS – Was slow to begin.

FORETOKEN – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Stewards questioned E. Ljung in relation to the tactics adopted and the overall performance of the gelding. Apprentice E. Ljung advised that she was instructed to ride the gelding with cover if possible to enable it to relax throughout the race to give the gelding the best possible chance to run out the 1200m of today’s event. Apprentice E. Ljung further stated that after beginning well she was reluctant to overly pressure Foretoken to obtain a forward position bearing in mind the instructions issued, however this resulted in her being unable to cross the runners to her inside forcing her to race wide throughout the event. Apprentice E. Ljung went on to say that despite this the gelding travelled comfortably throughout the event however when placed under pressure from the 500m failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing.

BAHSA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

RACE 8: O’SHEAS WINDSOR HOTEL HCP CLASS 2 – 1000M

I’M NO RUBY – Crowded for room at the start and lost ground.

MORE FAVULOUS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
