Bradley Appo, the rider of MISTER CALYPSO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of A STELLAR CAUSE, resulting in interference to other runners. Jockey Appo’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 16 days, to commence at midnight on Tuesday 11 July and expire at midnight on Thursday 27 July 2017. In assessing penalty stewards deemed the carelessness of jockey Appo to be high range.

BIANCATAK – Shifted in at the 700m when not sufficiently clear of SHADES OF SERENA, MISS ARKWRIGHT, RED APPEAL and TERGRANDE, resulting in those runners being tightened for room. Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of BIANCATAK, was reprimanded for causing interference. In this incident stewards took into account the contributing factor of TERGRANDE having to be checked  and shift outwards from the heels of LIPS ‘N HIPS, which was interfered with in an incident shortly prior to this incident.

CRAFTY BLONDE – Began awkwardly, shifted wider on the track and lost ground at the start.

MISS ARKWRIGHT – Tightened for room approaching the 700m.

SHADES OF SERENA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Tightened for room approaching the 700m and had to be checked from heels. Following race 7, it was brought to the attention of stewards by the race day sample collection official that mare had possibly bled in its box upon returning to its stables located on course adjacent to the swab stalls. As Trainer J. Hearne had left the track he was contacted by stewards to return to the course so that a veterinary examination could be performed. Veterinary examination revealed the presence of a small amount of blood in both nostrils however, the identification of this blood was attributed to external trauma following the horse being fractious in the barriers prior to the event.  Trainer J. Hearne was questioned in relation to his failure to report the matter to stewards. Mr Hearne stated that prior to leaving the stable the mare had exhibited no signs of bleeding, however conceded a small amount of blood was present upon his arrival back to the stables. Stewards accepted his explanation.

BARCELONA BOUND – Slow to begin.

SIX BEAT – Apprentice C. Jokic was questioned regarding the reason she allowed her mount to shift from a position one out and one back to a three-wide position near the 900m. She said that the  horse commenced to overrace passing the 1000m and therefore she elected to let the horse stride forward near  the 800m, rather than overly restrain it to maintain its position however shortly after obtaining a position outside the leader the gelding was under pressure and failed to run on as she expected. Stewards noted her explanation.

RHIATENN ROAD – Had to be steadied to avoid the heels of another runner when shifting out to improve near the 400m.

Race 5: ASHTONS BUTCHERY BM58 H'CAP – 1000M

TEMUJIN’S QUEEN – Stewards questioned apprentice N. Keal as to whether there was an opportunity for him to go forward near the 800m and cross runners to his inside. N. Keal stated that in order to do so he would have to make too much use of his mount in the early stages of the event particularly bearing in mind the 60kg weight impost the horse was carrying therefore elected to take cover. Stewards noted his explanation.
