GENERAL

As Apprentice N. Keal was indisposed due to personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Upon arriving at the track Stewards were concerned about an uneven section of the track on the fence near the 500m. Stewards therefore elected to have the rail moved to the 1.5m position between the 550m and the 450m to avoid this section of the track.

Race 1: WARREGO WATER QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1000M

GNARLY CHARLIE – Tightened for room at the start.

CAUGHT REDHANDED – Tightened for room at the start.

SYLVESTER – Began awkwardly.

TOP LUCK – Jumped in the air at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.

SPIRIT’S CHOICE – Raced greenly throughout, and was inclined to hang in in the home straight.

ANGEL OF WAR – Tightened for room at the start.

CAMBOOMYA – Shifted in abruptly leaving the 200m.

Race 2: BLACK TOYOTA MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M

BIANCATAK – Shifted out  leaving the 600m despite the efforts of its rider, causing MI INSTINCT to be taken out which resulted in MALEFIC, which was following, to clip heels and blunder. Forced wider on the track by another runner leaving the 500m. Apprentice H. Phillips accidentally dropped her whip at the 200m.

MALEFIC – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 800m. Bumped another runner approaching the 500m.

NORTHERN CRUSADER – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn.

RED WEDDING – Commenced to hang out leaving the 500m resulting in BOLD CRUSADER shifting wider on the track.

MI INSTINCT – Trainer J. Byrne advised that the gelding will be ridden more quietly today than its most recent starts. The gelding was ridden on the pace. Forced wider on the track by another runner leaving the 500m.

NORTHERN DREAMS – Shifted out abruptly leaving the 600m despite the efforts of its rider resulting in SOZZLED shifting wider on the track, causing it to lose ground. Bumped another runner approaching the 500m.

RINGO’S MAGIC – Began awkwardly.

SEVENEEZ – Laid in in the home straight.

BANANA GEM – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer G. Maroney was advised that the mare will now incur a bar from provincial meetings until such time as it shows competitive form at country venues.

MASK STEPENNY – Began awkwardly.

Race 3: LOWES PETROLEUM SERVICE BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 2000M

GET OUTA UTAH – Jumped in the air at the start. Raced keenly onto heels, and shifted out abruptly, when passing the winning post on the first occasion and, as a result, forced OUR BOY BOLT wider on the track. Forced wider on the track by another runner approaching the 500m.

LONELY HEARTS CLUB – After racing wide in the early stages, the gelding was forced wider on the track by another runner entering the home straight on the first occasion and, as a result, Apprentice R. Ride permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1400m. Hung out from the 600m and made the home turn wide.

THERE’S NEMO – Following the race it was noted that the gelding had sustained an injury on the back of its near hind fetlock which was consistent with it being galloped on.

OUR BOY BOLT – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Steadied from heels near the 1500m.

GUACAMOLE – Overraced in the early stages. Shifted wider on the track to avoid heels near the 1500m.

Race 4: DALBY EASTWEST CLASS 2 PLATE – 1400M

MR ATTITUDE – Slow to begin.

BOWIES BAYCONI – Made contact with the running rail approaching the 500m.

FINE EYES – Began awkwardly.

SHEZA HOTTI – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

MISHANI VAIDRA – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels shortly after the start.

URUBAMBA – A pre-race veterinary examination was undertaken on the mare and it was passed fit to start. Stewards permitted the mare to race with a tongue-tie control bit rather than tongue-tie which is its usual gear.

Race 5: MCINNES WILSON LAWYERS OPEN H’CAP – 1400M

ROSIE POSIE – Steadied from heels approaching the 800m.

BENICO’S PRINCE – Slow to begin. Jockey N. Tomizawa could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

JUST AS LOYAL – Blundered on jumping away. Steadied from heels approaching the 800m. Raced 3 wide without cover from leaving the 800m.

Race 6: CAMM AGRICULTURAL GROUP OPEN H’CAP – 1000M

On return to scale, the connections of the second placegetter, KLAMMER, lodged an objection against WELL SIGHTED being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the 500m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards were of the view that approaching the 500m WELL SIGHTED (S. Bogenhuber), after being tightened for room by CLARAGH (App. G Willoughby), was required to take evasive action from the heels of that runner. CLARAGH then commenced to shift out, forcing WELL SIGHTED and CAMBOOYA ROCK outwards, which in turn took KLAMMER wider on the track. Stewards were therefore of the view that the interference could not be solely attributed to the actions of WELL SIGHTED, and dismissed the objection.

At a subsequent inquiry, Apprentice G. Willoughby, the rider of CLARAGH, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 500m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of WELL SIGHTED resulting in WELL SIGHTED and ISIS MAGIC (App. J Murphy), which was racing to the inside of WELL SIGHTED, both being tightened for room.  In this incident, WELL SIGHTED had to be checked, and ISIS MAGIC made contact with the running rail and lost ground. Apprentice Willoughby’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight on Thursday 10 May 2018, at the completion of a current suspension incurred at Gatton on 20 April 2018, and to expire at midnight on Friday 18 May 2018.

CLARAGH – Jumped in the air at the start.

CAMBOOYA ROCK – Steadied from heels at the 700m.

Race 7: CARLTON AND UNITED BREWERIES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M

CAPTAIN’S ANGEL – Began awkwardly.

NORTHERN REVENGE – Began awkwardly.
