GENERAL
Stewards inquired into a report from Steward B Cooke, that he had observed Jockey N Thomas using a mobile telephone in the jockey’s room during the running of Race 5. Mr Cooke advised that he immediately confiscated the phone used by Mr Thomas at that time. At a subsequent inquiry Mr Thomas advised Stewards that he had not handed his telephone into the Stewards as required upon arrival at the track, and when identifying that he would be delayed from leaving the track today he elected to contact his wife to advise of such. A subsequent examination of Mr Thomas’ mobile phone confirmed a single phone call was made to Mr Thomas’ wife at the relevant time. Mr Thomas was subsequently fined $400 under AR 160B(3).
The following riders were all fined $200 under AR160B(3) for having a mobile phone in their possession in the Jockey’s room:-

Race 1: LAZY BEAR GRAND FINAL @ THE LEAGUESY QTIS 3-Y-O MAIDEN H’CAP 1100M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey. N Tomizawa the rider of the 2nd placed BONDAGE, against GOLD EPAULETTE (L Tilley) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from all relevant parties and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that GOLD EPAULETTE did shift out over the concluding stages making contact with BONDAGE. Stewards could not be satisfied however that the degree of interference suffered to BONDAGE was sufficient to warrant a reversal of the placings, particularly bearing in mind the neck margin between the runners at the conclusion of the event and therefore the objection was dismissed.
GOLD EPAULETTE- Began awkwardly.
CAUGHT REDHANDED- Leaving the 800m, raced in restricted room and became awkward in its action. Raced greenly for the majority.

MAKE NO MISTAKE- Raced keenly and was wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
THE SHOWMAN- Dipped on a number of occasions during the middle stages. Stewards questioned Jockey N Tomizawa in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding. Jockey Tomizawa advised that the gelding never travelled comfortably and was off the bit during the event which he attributed to it stepping back in distance for today’s event. He added that when placed under pressure the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer B. Currie also expressed disappointment in the performance of the gelding, which in his opinion raced flat today. He added that as the gelding had been in work for some time it would now be freshened up prior to its next start.
