SANDGATE- It was identified on pre-race inspection that the horse, whilst advised as a Colt in the official program, was gelded. As the gelding had occurred prior to the horse commencing its racing career no action was taken other than to remind Trainer M Nolan was of his obligations under the provisions of AR102 and direct him to amend the horses stable return to reflect its status as a gelding.

Soon after the winning post shifted out abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, inconveniencing GUTS ‘N’ GLORY (G Geran), JAZZ (J Cornish) and START STRUTTING (M Savva). As Stewards were satisfied it was predominantly the racing manners of YIA MAS that caused the incident no action was taken other than to advise all riders to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

PLAN CEE- Jockey J Missen will be reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR131(b).

MY BOY DRAGON- Bumped the hindquarters of another runner soon after jumping. After beginning on terms with the field was under pressure early to maintain contact and consequently assumed a trailing position. Inclined to hang out in the middle stages.

THE WAITING MAN- Slow to begin. Jockey H Phillips was fined the sum of $400 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she did use her whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.

SPECIAL DESIGN- Bumped on the hindquarters soon after jumping. A post-race veterinary examination found the mare to have sustained lacerations to both front forelegs in running and to be lame in the off fore. Trainer D Tunnah was advised the mare would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider a submission made by connections of THE WAITING MAN (H Phillips) for the gelding to be declared a non-runner. After taking submissions from Jockey Phillips, Trainer P Sexton and taking evidence from Starter Mr I Henderson, Stewards determined that there were no external factors which impacted upon the geldings opportunity to be afforded a fair start and its slow beginning was due solely to its own mannerisms. As such the application to be declared a non-runner was denied and correct weight declared on the Judges numbers.

Stewards inquired into a protracted incident which took place from the 600-500m. After taking evidence from the riders involved and viewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that passing the 600m NAYTELLRHI BIRD (App E MacPherson) commenced to shift in, BIG TALK (G Geran) which was racing to the inside of that runner commenced to shift in and away from that runner, despite the efforts of its rider, as a result GOLDEN SYMPHONY (I Rabjones) and SPECIAL DESIGN (J Cornish) which were to the inside of BIG TALK became placed in restricted room and SPECIAL DESIGN was obliged to ease. Shortly after NAYTELLRHI BIRD, which was continuing to shift in, shifted in and dictated the line of BIG TALK in onto the running of GOLDEN SYMPHONY causing the runner to be severely checked and loose its rightful running. SPECIAL DESIGN and THE WAITING MAN (H Phillips) which were trailing were also severely hampered as a result of this incident. App E MacPherson subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she did exercise insufficient effort in keeping her mount straight and did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of runners to her inside. App MacPhersons license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 15 days to commence 23rd January 2022 up to and including 6th February 2022. In arriving at penalty Stewards considered App MacPhersons record in relation to the rule, her guilty plea and the degree of carelessness and interference which were deemed to be in the high end of midrange and high range respectively. App MacPherson was advised of her right to an internal review.

Race 5: FUTURE FUELS DISTRIBUTORS CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1100m

OUTBACK HEIGHTS- Dropped its head and dislodged Jockey M Kennedy as the start was effected. Trainer M Kropp was advised the mare would require a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Jockey Kennedy was uninjured in the incident.
