GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 9 – R. Downey +0.5kg.
 
As Jockey A. Thompson was overweight in Race 7 on DON’T STOP ME NOW, he was subsequently replaced by Jockey M. Savva. Jockey A. Thompson was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 

RACE 1: RUGBY RACEDAY 1ST NOVEMBER 2025 BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1200m

The start of this event was delayed after JOEY D’OR became fractious in the barrier and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 11:32am on veterinary advice. Stewards declared that all successful bets placed on JOEY D’OR be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 11:32am:

2cents in the dollar for the place
 
A post-race veterinary examination revealed multiple skin abrasions and a cut to the stifle consistent with being kicked by another horse when returning to the mounting yard. Trainer K. Johnston was advised JOEY D’OR would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing or trailing again.
 
NEVER GIVE UP – Raced wide for the majority.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SUPER QUICK – Bumped the rail leaving the 400m and became momentarily unbalanced.
 
ALL BLACK– Raced wide throughout.
 
MYSTERY POWER – Raced keenly during the early stages when being restrained in an attempt to obtain a position with cover before being permitted to stride forward near the 1000m to obtain a leading position near the 800m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L Hatch advised on 22 September that the gelding had pulled up well and would now likely be freshened up prior to racing again.
 
PRINCE OF DIAMONDS – Raced wide throughout.
 
ARAMINTA – Began awkwardly. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
HUSS ON FIRST – Began awkwardly. Hung in throughout the event. Held up for clear running having to be steadied from heels near the 150m and consequently, went to the line without being fully tested.
 
BROOKLYN DAISY – Obliged to shift wider across heels to obtain clear running near the 200m.
 
PORRISTA (NZ) – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
 
RACE 2: OLSCC HOUSE - RICE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1200m

 
WOLFGANG – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly during the middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
CONNEWARRE – Improved onto heels near the 50m and was unable to be fully tested to the line.
 
SILVER CITY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly on heels approaching the 800m. Bumped with near the 200m.
 
BORN FEARLESS – Raced keenly approaching the 600m.
 
HOTFOOT PERFORMER – Raced keenly approaching the 600m. Momentarily steadied near the 200m when WOLFGANG laid in marginally.
 
ATLAS JOHN – Raced wide for the majority. Bumped with near the 200m.
 
 
RACE 3: D&NDJC RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1000m
 
KING NEPTUNE (NZ) – Crowded for room near the 500m.
 
MASTER NED – Began awkwardly and bumped with CHANGE THE DEEL.
 
CHANGE THE DEEL – Bumped on jumping. Inconvenienced near the 200m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
BUTT HEADS – Crowded near the 900m and momentarily steadied. Crowded for room near the 500m. Momentarily held up approaching the 200m before shifting in. Jockey M. Savva was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(b) for failing to ride her mount out to the finish line.
 
HOKUSAI – Began awkwardly.
 
ADDICTIVE PIRANHA – When momentarily steadied near the 500m, commenced to race keenly and improved onto heels. Jockey R. Downey pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR 131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the final three (3) strides of the event and in doing so did, cost ADDICTIVE PIRANAH 4th place. Jockey R. Downey’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days to commence 28 September up to and including 4 October 2025. In considering the matter Stewards noted the narrow margin between 4th and 5th placing, the extent of the breach, Jockey Downeys forthright evidence and guilty plea as well as his good record in relation to the rule against the QRIC penalty guidelines. Jockey Downey was advised of his rights to an appeal. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ARTOPIA – Laid out approaching the 200m inconveniencing CHANGE THE DEEL before then commenced to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice C. Lowe was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident and was reminded of her obligation to straighten her mount.
 
SONIC ARROW – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MASTER MIYAGI – Raced wide during the early stages.
 
Following the running of this race, Stewards and a delegation of Senior Riders inspected a portion of the track near the 500m to ensure the tractability of the racing surface and deemed the track safe for racing.
 
 
RACE 4: OLSCC HOUSE - NOLAN RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1000m
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of 2nd placegetter LETS DANCE JANDY to view the films and ascertain if there was grounds to lodge a protest. After viewing the footage no party elected to pursue any objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
 
LETS DANCE JANDY – Momentarily held up near the 350m. Steadied from the heels of LOADED GUN passing the 100m which laid in under pressure, before shifting back out away from that runners heels approaching the winning post.  
 
LOADED GUN – Raced keen during the early stages. Laid in under pressure passing the 100m inconveniencing LETS DANCE JANDY before laying out over the concluding stages. Jockey L. Tilley rider of LOADED GUN was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
THE GREY – Raced wide throughout.
 
BOBBY IS KING – Began awkwardly, bumped and was slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer T Stephens advised on 22 September that the gelding had pulled up well following the event, adding further that the interference on jumping away and the step up in class were both telling factors in the performance.  
 
SCARLETT THUNDER – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SHE'S MY LADY – Raced wide throughout.
 
ALBION SQUARE (GB) – Trainer B. Gentle was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding after becoming fractious in the barriers. Lost an off-fore plate in running.
 

RACE 5: OUR LADY OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS COLLEGE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m

The start of this event was delayed after DOTTI BISKIT refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:56pm. Stewards declared that all successful bets placed on DOTTI BISKIT to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 1:56pm:
 
1st place – MANPOWER – 16c win, 12c place
2nd place – SLEEPY JOE – 18c place
3rd place – CANCELLED – 16c place
 
Trainer L. Hatch was advised DOTTI BISKIT would require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing.
 
SNUGG– Began awkwardly. Obliged to steady from heels leaving the 800m.
 
HABERFIELD – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
DUKE OF BANTRY – Proved difficult to load. Trainer C Geran was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result. Shifted in near the 500m and momentarily hampered ZOUSAIN GIRL. Jockey N. Tomizawa was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Laid in for the majority of the event.
 
MANPOWER – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure.
 
BETTY BOOM – Laid out near the 500m and momentarily hampered ZOUSAIN GIRL. Apprentice B. Youngberry was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
ZOUSAIN GIRL – Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels leaving the 500m. Laid in over the final 150m.
 
CANCELLED – Shifted out when not fully clear of SNUGG leaving the 800m. Jockey R Downey was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
 
RACE 6: TOM FRITH MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000m

THIS IS ONE- Trainer K Kemp advised that, in his opinion, the gelding would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run after resuming after a spell.
 
CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – After being fractious in the horse transport vehicle underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:34pm after the gelding was found to have skin abrasions on its hind quarters. Trainer M. Currie was advised CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.
 
ABLETT – Bounded in the air as the start was affected.
 
XERRI – Inconvenienced on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FITZROY BOY – Jumped out after the start.
 
BLANTONS RUN – Began awkwardly.
 
MISHANI HITMAN – Raced wide throughout.
 
HERBIE TOWN – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, proving somewhat difficult to ride out.
 
 
RACE 7: PURCELL CIVIL & CONSTRUCTION PLOUGH INN CUP MAIDEN PLATE 1400m

BUSH WOOKIE– Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with FOR THE BRAVE.
 
LIFE OF TREE – Raced keenly during the early and middle stages.
 
OHH ERROL– Bumped on jumping by BUSH WOOKIE. After racing wide during the early stages, approaching the 800m obtained a position nearer the running rail near the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
TRUSTY BANDIT– Improved onto heels and steadied near the 600m. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
TWILIGHT STEPS – Bumped on jumping by TWILIGHT STEPS.
 
DON'T STOP ME NOW – Raced keenly during the early stages. Jockey M. Savva pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that Leaving the 500m, she did permit her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of FOR THE BRAVE obliging that runner to be steadied and taken wider into the running of BUSH WOOKIE, which was obliged to steady and be taken wider hampering CUT DIAMONDS which was also taken wider on the track. Jockey M. Savva’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days commencing 21 September up to and including 3 October 2025. Jockey M Savva was advised of her right to an appeal.  
 
FOR THE BRAVE – Shifted in and bumped FOR THE BRAVE. Raced keenly during the early stages. Commenced to over race near the 1000m.
 
NEWELL BEACH – Began awkwardly.
 
CUT DIAMONDS – Hampered when having to shift out and away from heels near the 500m.
 
 
RACE 8: OLSCC HOUSE - MACKILLOP MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400m

The start of this event was delayed after BON ICHI became fractious in the barrier becoming momentarily cast, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and subsequently declared a late scratching at 3:42pm. Stewards declared that all successful bets placed on BON ICHI to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 3:42pm:
 
1st place – BACCARAT ROUGE – 0c win, 5c place
2nd place – MUCHACHO – 2c place
3rd place – WHAT DID YOU SAY – 3c place
 
Trainer J De Boeck was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
 
LECAN – Shifted out and bumped with MUCHACHO. Shifted in abruptly passing the 1300m and inconvenienced WHAT DID YOU SAY. Jockey J. Molloy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
WINNING ELEMENTS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and bumped WHAT DID YOU SAY.
 
WHAT DID YOU SAY – Inconvenienced near the 1300m.
 
MUCHACHO – Raced wide throughout.
 
SO YOU STAR – Raced keenly during the middle stages and laid out for the majority, becoming awkwardly placed on heels near the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a mildly slow recovery.
 
 

RACE 9: LADBROKES DALBY CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1400m

DON'T STOP – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
AMICUS CURIAE – Raced keenly during the early and middle stages.
 
PICKO ROCKS – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer D Baker advised on 22 September that the gelding had pulled up well and would now likely be freshened up prior to racing again.
 
TARA JASMINE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CELESTIAL HARBOUR – Momentarily held up leaving the 400m.
 
TIJUANA TWO STEP – Began awkwardly and bumped START STRUTTING. Raced wide throughout.
 
DRANG A TANG – Raced keenly and laid out throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M Currie advised on 22 September that the gelding had pulled up well and would now be sent for a spell.
 
START STRUTTING – Bumped shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
 
RACE 10: OLSCC HOUSE - MCAULEY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1400m

The start of this event was delayed after DOITLIKEMAXWELL underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after lunging forward and striking its head on the barrier. Subsequently DOITLIKEMAXWELL was declared a late scratching at 4:58pm. Stewards declared that all successful bets placed on DOITLIKEMAXWELL be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:58pm:
 
1st place – LUDIK – 15c win, 12c place
2nd place – IONACELTIC – 14c place
3rd place – WANT TO BE PROUD – 14c place
 
Trainer P Webster was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
 
IONACELTIC – Bumped with SEACRYPTION on jumping. Hampered and obliged to steady leaving the 600m.
 
WANT TO BE PROUD – Shifted in when insufficiently clear of IONACELTIC near the 600m before continuing to shift in and crowding READY GREY near the 550m. Apprentice R. O’Connell was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) as a result of this incident. Apprentice R. O’Connell was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(b) for failing to ride his mount out over the final stride.
 
SEACRYPTION – Began awkwardly and bumped with IONACELTIC. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a mildly slow recovery.
 
READY GREY – Raced keenly during the early and middle stages. Trainer R. Lipp advised Stewards it was now his intention for the gelding to leave the stable. Crowded and momentarily steadied approaching the 550m.
 
BESIEGE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly during the early and middle stages.
